@Boardwine Sweden, but they dropped charges but are considering laying them again before the statute of limitations runs out in 2020. Here is a timeline I read on the BBC: Timeline: Julian Assange saga August 2010 - The Swedish Prosecutor's Office first issues an arrest warrant for Assange. It says there are two separate allegations - one of rape and one of molestation. Assange says the claims are "without basis" December 2010 - Assange is arrested in London and bailed at the second attempt May 2012 - The UK's Supreme Court rules he should be extradited to Sweden to face questioning over the allegations June 2012 - Assange enters the Ecuadorean embassy in London August 2012 - Ecuador grants asylum to Assange, saying there are fears his human rights might be violated if he is extradited August 2015 - Swedish prosecutors drop their investigation into two allegations - one of sexual molestation and one of unlawful coercion because they have run out of time to question him. But he still faces the more serious accusation of rape. October 2015 - Metropolitan Police announces that officers will no longer be stationed outside the Ecuadorean embassy February 2016 - A UN panel rules that Assange has been "arbitrarily detained" by UK and Swedish authorities since 2010 May 2017 - Sweden's director of public prosecutions announces that the rape investigation into Assange is being dropped July 2018 - The UK and Ecuador confirm they are holding ongoing talks over the fate of Assange October 2018 - Assange is given a set of house rules at the Ecuadorean embassy in London. He then launches legal action against the government of Ecuador December 2018 - Assange's lawyer rejects an agreement announced by Ecuador's president to see him leave the Ecuadorean embassy February 2019 - Australia grants Assange a new passport amid fears Ecuador may bring his asylum to an end April 2019 - The Metropolitan Police arrests him for "failing to surrender to the court" over a warrant issued in 2012. He is found guilty and faces up to 12 months in prison, as well as extradition over US charges of conspiracy to commit computer intrusion. So, he has been convicted, yesterday, of the charge of not submitting to the court. (UK) Possible sentence for that of one year. He faces a five year sentence in the US for charges pending.

When I watched the actual convocation type panel discussion I noted how gracious Jordan was to the two less humble men on the stage. It seemed to me that they had not come into a revelation of what the Apostle Paul meant when he wrote 1 Cor. 8:2, I think, which says: "If any man thinks he knows anything, he does not yet know it as he ought." dmatic replies on Apr 1, 2019:
@Danny705 " Can we explore that concept? What does it mean to be perverted by sin? Do all non-Christians go to hell?" Again, I don't want to enter this discussion to dilute what you two are investigating, and maybe this should be a whole new thread, but..there is much confusion about a lot of stuff, especially, about God! Theology. Sin is transgression of God's Law. Why does it pervert "morality"? Morality is defined by God, of course, and His Law is perfect. Therefore, to 'allow' oneself to violate it is iniquity. Iniquity is the idea that one can sin and it will be OK anyway. It, sin, in itself, is a perversion of morality. And it infects the way a person sees the world, and God, Himself! The idea of 'hell' and its place in reality is a whole topic in itself with many false ideas about it in circulation for millennia. First, we know "hell" or hades or gehanna or sheol exist. But we also know that hell does not last forever. Maybe that last sentence shocks you, but it is true. God IS Love. Everything God does is motivated by love. I would posit...even hell. Many reasons for saying so, but I'll end this with God's expressed plan...that ALL will come to know Him! Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess....allegiance to Him! Death itself will be eliminated and suffering and pain, and every tear will be wiped...Good stuff!

Your thoughts are interesting, ProgenitorGnosis. I, too, have wondered about how society will organize when wealth is being produced by robots. Economics is the study of the production, distribution and consumption of wealth. Capitalism and Socialism are two "economic systems". They differ in who 'owns' the "means of production" and gets to make decisions. When I was younger, I didn't want to labor all day for my needs. So, I chose to reduce my "needs", so that I could have time to devote to avocational pursuits. I thought if I could reduce my need for income, or, at least reduce my "outgo", then that would mean I could pursue "life", which includes producing wealth, but also other interests. Life is filled with wonder to be pursued. The reason I like capitalism is that it gives me freedom to pursue it without someone else telling me what to do.

Also appreciated the portrayal of some of the ruder types, as there are, in reality, many of those, too. The film did a good job of showing that some of those who work in clinics actually are so deceived that they think they are doing good! I do agree with the "pastor" about it being "hard to watch", though. I also found myself thinking what I would say to a wife who was feeling the shame of her actions and thoughts when she asked: How can He forgive me? Certainly, more could be said than; "Because He's God", but he had just awakened from deep sleep. Give the guy a break.

@Danny705 If I may interject, though I hesitate because I do not want to interfere with your great conversation, (and sometimes a third party ruins the flow) I will anyway. What we all seem to be searching for is "reality", that which is true. As Danny has just pointed out, we all come from "backgrounds", where we were presumably taught someone else's version of 'reality', that more often than not, was their opinion of reality, rather than truth. Reminds me of something I read a long time ago that stuck with me. It was said by Siddhartha or Herman Hesse: "There is a reality, my boys, and nothing can change that. However: Truths, that is Opinions of reality are countless in number and each is just as true as it is false." That gave me pause back then, and it gives me pause now. There is a lot we don't know. As it has not been revealed to us, yet. The Bible has the interesting truth expressed thusly: "Our forefathers inherited lies". Though they may have thought them truth at the time, they were not. Jesus also said to His "boys": "I have much more to reveal to you but you are not yet ready to hear them" (My paraphrase) Personally, I love it that God has put you two together! Obviously, He has a purpose for doing so. The tenor and tone of your conversation is fascinating. Please continue....

Pretty diabolical. Of course, if they, the powers that think they be, want to be first in line to 'sacrifice' themselves....for "sustainability"...oh well. My understanding of 'money' is a bit different , apparently, than most others. I think money is merely a government's stamp of approval on the "fiat" or instrument of paper, that acts as a trade convenience, for its citizens. The 'money' represents value and does not in itself need to be value. It measures the value of wealth, which is anything and everything made valuable by human effort. The people involved in the economy need to have 'faith' in the medium of exchange, that it will be honored by others within the system as a measure of value. Our system is not just, however, because of the trickery and deceit of the Federal Reserve. The printing of money out of 'nothing' and then charging interest on this nothing is one of the biggest scams ever conceived.

In 1971, Nixon took us off the gold standard....seemingly to be replaced by the Petro Dollar? I agree that we are headed to a cash=less society, as the Bible predicted nearly 2000 years ago, with a 'marking system" where no one will be able to buy or sell unless he/she has a mark, whatever that proves to be. "Technology" has, of course, enabled the possibility that all transactions will be monitored, recorded, worldwide. Bartering , or trading stuff for stuff, may still be possible, who knows. @Republicae Thanks for reading that and giving me your opinion. It appears that we are at an impasse and will continue to just go around in circles. Our main point of contention is on the definition of money and whether or not interest collecting is just. You define money as a commodity. I define a commodity as a commodity and money as a trade convenience. As for good conscience and morality, I believe that we don't define morality because we, as mankind, do not seem to have a moral standard that does not change. There is one Who does not change, and that is God. I believe He defines what is right and what is wrong. Any "law of man" that does not conform to His standard is, wrong and will not stand. So, I have, very much enjoyed conversing with you and getting to try to understand your perspective. I do know of the Hammurabi Code by the way, but God is the Author of history and His Law, in my view, does not change. He has declared interest collecting to be unjust gain. He allowed the Israelites to charge interest to those who didn't live by His Law, as a protection for them. Israelites were commanded to love their neighbors, not unjustly gain from their hardship. I read the book of Nehemiah the last couple days about their efforts to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem after the captivity. If I remember, it was chapter 5:11 that discussed charging the hundreth part as usury that was wrong for them to do. I read it because of the discussion about Trump's wall that I'm having with people. I should read Ezra's account next. Anyway, I wish for you continued health and prosperity. Maybe your hypothesis will be tested soon, as government educated (indoctrinated) 'students' break into chaos both politically and socially because they are not buoyed in truth. @HollyLouise Thanks, Holly, No need to apologize...life is filled with adventure! Dragons of lies to slay and windmills to tilt at. Organizing a society around socialism is up to that society. Problem is, what if that is an unjust system? Considering human nature, as well as the nature of animals, most are 'selfish', as they mainly, look our for 'number one', and then are tempted to trample on the 'rights' of others. If everyone was self-less and Law abiding, communism would work, too. But, what we see in all three systems of organizing "economically" is that problems arise because of human nature. First, there is greed and a fear attached that there might not be enough stuff for 'me' to survive in the future...If the 'me' is a government employee, or part of the 'ruling class', they will make sure they get the 'stuff' produced first, with extras for tomorrow, as they steal it from those who produced it. Those producing more, then, if they don't receive the fruits of their labors, will see others benefiting the same as them without exerting the effort, so they, themselves, become less interested in producing 'stuff' for everyone to consume. So, their greed is exposed as well, desiring to profit from the labors of others. Capitalism is often criticized as 'greedy', or actually even inspiring people to become greedy, which is a voluntary thing to avoid if one is working on his/her character. The thing is, if one values liberty, which in a socialist's eyes may be freedom from work(?) and having someone else provide the stuff I need to live, it would seem that capitalism is the most freeing. One may choose to work as hard as he wants and find satisfaction in providing for his needs as well as those of his fellows.

@Republicae "The base of human existence today is trade. There was a time when man could make his home in a cave for which there was no rent to pay. He could go into the jungles and by artful maneuvers trap some other brute and eat it to sustain himself. He could also use the skin of his victim for clothing. His drink came from a nearby spring or stream of running water. At that stage of his career man was more or less independent. He paid no rent, no taxes, no interests, no profits, no protection fees. He paid for nothing. All he had to do was to go out and catch his food on the run, or pick it from the bushes, go to the spring or stream for drink, make his own clothing from the skins of his victims, and protect himself as best he could from other brutes, insects, bacteria and weather. In those days he had to be a man or the length of his life was short. He either had to be strong enough to whip, single handed, every other animal he encountered, or else swift enough on his feet to keep out of their way. He had to keep his eyes open both while awake and asleep or he would suddenly disappear without leaving flesh or bones to prove that he had lived. But possession of a thing is seldom appreciated and so man became dissatisfied with his independence and individualism when he had it. He craved social ability and the power to dominate the living as well as devour the dead. So he began to use his wits as well as his arms and legs. He learned to be social and crafty. It was a long stretch from early individualism to the present complex social state. None of the old-timers remember anything about it. But somewhere betwixt and between, humans began to trade their belongings. The hungry man, for instance, at the start, would trade his skins for some fresh meat. That was the direct method of trade in which the producer received something tangible from the purchaser. Later, however, this method of payment was supplanted by a medium of exchange called money. Bits of metal were carved and marked to represent certain values and became generally recognized as the method by which trade should be conducted. Owing to the brightness and scarcity of gold, as well as to its glittering appeal for childlike people, that metal was principally used as money in the beginning, and eventually became the standard of money value throughout the world. But the visible supply of gold in the world could not keep pace with the ever increasing population who needed money for trading purposes, and credit then came into vogue which permitted trade to be carried on many times larger in amount than there was gold to pay for it. And because there was not enough money for everybody to use there were men who made it their business to get control of it and make everybody pay for its...

When money itself is in demand, then that means business and trade are curtailed due to lack of its availability, and that is where the whole scam is exposed. Interest payments to use money! Money was "invented" to be a trade convenience and can be whatever the economy declares it to be. As long as people that are trading have faith that it will be accepted at the next place in the economy, to get what they wanted. Now, of course people can buy gold or silver or any other commodity to "store" their "wealth", and the price of that gold and silver and whatever other commodity, is determined by the law of supply and demand. It's stored value, going either up or down or staying constant. If a large supply of gold came on the market it's price to purchase it may go down unless the demand for it also increased.

@Republicae Yes, but which 98%? And Yes, again to the scam....one wonders what 2% annual inflation, compounded would figure to since 1913? Anyway, I just read the Viera piece you must have sent as I was typing my last. Didn't see it until this morning! Better have one's mind uncluttered when reading his stuff! I must admit, however, that I didn't yet read the appendix that you included. I need a rest. Appreciate what the founders were trying to do as they 'rassled' with this sometimes confusing topic.... From your post, as I was reading, I copied this..."More specifically, "money is not a standard for the measurement of prices; it is a medium whose exchange ratio varies in the same way * in which the mutual exchange ratios of the vendible commodities and services vary.” Furthermore, money can never arise ex nihilo. "The acceptance of anew kind of money presupposes that the thing in question already has, previous exchange value on account of the services it can render directly to consumption or production."21 In short, no governmental edict can make something with no previously existing purchasing power either a "unit of value,” or "money" in the economic sense." This seems to be a crux in our discussion. May I ask how you "understand" this verbiage? I will try to parse it when my mind settles....

@Republicae I've read most of "the Creature from Jekyll Island". I understand the fractional reserve banking system, too. Why do you think they allow that? So they can loan more "money" out to people and businesses and collect interest on each and every loan, even though the recipients of the loans didn't know they weren't borrowing real "money". It was just a figure in a bank account. If more than 2% of people who had money deposited in banks wanted to withdraw their money at the same time, the bank would freak, and have to get an emergency loan from a bigger bank so as to keep from having bank 'run' and people losing faith in their banks! Oh No! But, obviously, even though banks don't give the people that borrow from them, real actual, money, they are still collecting interest on each o0f those loans.....and, believe me, it is BIG BUSINESS! So they are charging interest on all these loans when they have given them really nothing but a figure in a bank book, similar to what the Feds do, and you think that doesn't have an effect on inflation? Are you serious? So, in effect, the banks have increased the money supply when they loan out non-existent deposits, and "inflate" the money supply thereby proving your own definition of inflation. They used to publish the money supply in the papers. They called it M1, M2 etc. Anyway, in the M1 figures they included all the physical 'cash' that was out there plus "checkable deposits".. It's all a scam and you know it. OH, I almost forgot. I watched the first part of 60 Minutes tonight, Guess who they interviewed? The supposed "head" of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell? Bernanke and Yellin also made an appearance! Cool cucumbers they are.... They want to keep "inflation" at 2%, and the way they say they try to do that is through interest rates!

@Republicae OK, on to your second post above. : Usury is the charge for using something. Of course, there are those who TRY to suggest that usury is too high interest, but they are simply lying. Proof of this fact is in the book of Nehemiah, I think. From memory, though it could be Ezra, too. Anyway, once it was realized that the people were sinning against God for charging "interest" or "usury" of 1/2 of one percent, they were told to stop it! You asked: "If you take it literally as do most Orthodox Jews that I know, then why do they charge interest on money they lend?" Well, if they are charging interest to their countrymen, they are sinning against God, and against the neighbor they are charging the interest to! then you made this odd statement: "Without interest, the economy would soon die, .." An answer to this will take longer than I have right now...but an answer will come, Lord willing! thanks for your patience.

@Republicae Finally, you conclude your first post above with: "...The question is why would you object to a monetary system that has been proven time and time again throughout history for a currency system that has had such a dismal record through history of abject failure, is that indeed logical?" Pretty sure there has not been a system of gold and silver coinage without interest collecting. But, I'm not sure of your assertion that all systems that used gold and silver have been proven to be sound, just and fair. Are there any around today?

@Republicae Sometimes, it is hard for me to read your sentences, so if I misunderstand something you're saying, please forgive me. You wrote, regarding faith: "Good and silver backed currencies require no such faith, that is because they are money and paper slips without such backing are money substitutes. The faith in the ability to exchange such instruments as paper specie is gradually eroded by inflation of the supply of currency. The one eternal truth is faith is that it must remain both consistent and constant or it fails the person placing his faith in anything." I think I hear you, and the reason currencies have failed is because of "governments" and their misunderstanding of what sound money is. May I ask you if you think there is enough gold and silver in the world to represent all the wealth that therein is?

@Mehcanic Wow, nice read. May I ask you what you mean by "leveling up this conversation". Are you a professor? I'm not. This may get a lot deeper than I imagined. Hope I don't drown! One thing, as my head started hurting reading the article, was that I realized I'm glad I'm not God, and the other is that I realize I don't know very much, if anything. OK, to get real, I believe that life's goal is love from a pure heart. Now, we could discuss what the definition of love is, and/or what that means, too, but this is a group about economics, I think! But, of course, a just economic system is loving, isn't it? Basically, I believe that God defines justice. By right of Creation and since it is His plan we are all living "in", He gets to define the rules. So, the idea is to discover what He thinks about everything and then learn to come into agreement with Him. Correct? That's as high as I can think anyway. He has given instructions in how to organize a society, and the more success we have of implementing His instructions, the better and more fair and loving that society will be. If there could be found a nation living according to His "Law", or instructions, I am certainly convinced that other nations would want to emulate it because it would be so attractive, to say the least. All the members of that society would be treated impartially, by the "rulers". In my view, justice for everybody, harms nobody! That doesn't mean that in such a society, there would not be suffering, that the winds wouldn't tornado, or that earthquakes and famines or scarcity wouldn't occur, or that people wouldn't get sick and die, or "accidents" wouldn't happen... Not sure any of this levels anything....but I need to give my head a rest.... Thanks for spurring me to education, my friend.

@Mehcanic Very interesting, Mehcanic! Nice experiences living in different places! I've only lived in the USA. Thanks for sharing those bits from the constitutions elsewhere. People seem to be relatively content living where they do if there is justice in the systems, both governmental and economic. Else they try to leave, or escape their home nation and flee somewhere else that they think would be better for them. There seems to be a lot of dissatisfaction all over the globe! Our declaration of independence, which is an explanation of why our founders felt they needed to seek independence from being ruled by British rule, and precedes the Constitution, says that people generally will suffer with injustice IF the injustice is suffer-able. In other words, people will normally endure a lot before making a drastic change. I think what I am interested in discussing is what is the most fair and just system for organizing an economy. When I talk about the person not contributing does not fairly get to simply gain the benefits from others' labor, I guess I see that as an obvious strike against socialism, which, in my view, is not a fair, nor just system, unless, of course, everyone involved in it had sterling character, marked by complete self-less-ness. . So, the first and third of your paragraphs inquiring, would be kinda what I was referring to. Certainly, anybody has a "right" to beg, however. But, people have a "right" to either contribute or not. You wrote: "So there are really different ideas of what the good society is and what the proper role of government is - what values should guide it and what liberties and duties go together with citizenship." I love that paragraph! I agree. That is what we have seen in the world historically, with different nations being organized around differing principles, etc. Now, it seems, is a good time to look at the different experiments and the results and try to examine which seem to be the most fair and just and even prosperous if that should be one of the criteria for measuring. So, we can look at how South Korea is organized and compare it with North Korea, for example. I'm not an expert historian, but it seems to me that people do want to live in the best place that's fair, don't you think? People also seem to value freedom, without government telling them what to think. It's all such an in interesting reality, this thing called life, isn't it?
