@Biosphere Yesterday, at 5:00am, took my wife the 30 miles to emergency room. They admitted her, so didn't find much free time to respond. Dog bite got infected....IV antibiotics etc...Hopefully nothing too serious... Anyway, about life being "fair". I still hold to the idea that we don't "see" far enough. So, I withhold judgment one way or the other. What we think we see, may not be all there is to see, in other words. I don't see, for example, how the "life" gets into the chicken egg...how I can crack one open for breakfast, but if I put the same egg into an incubator and things go right, a baby chicken works its way out in 21 days! Amazing, to me. Same goes for when the life leaves. Where does it go? Ever seen a chicken run around with its head missing? Where is the life? In the body or in the head? What happens when a person dies? What is death? We know there is more than what we see with our physical eyes. The Bible has a phrase that says "When a man dies, the body goes back to the dust from which it came and the spirit goes back to God Who gave it. What is spirit? What of the soul? What is a soul? It is different than spirit. The spirit and soul are not the same thing. And, we seem not to be able to 'see' either. What happens to a soul? Some believe a soul is "immortal", in that it does not, nor can it die, whatever death means. So, they come up with all kinds of strange doctrines about a soul burning forever in hell....or some other crazy idea...that seems to insult the Creator Who created it. You know what the Bible says: The soul that sins will die. Who are we? What are we? Are we souls? Are we bodies? Are we spirits? And what is a spirit? The soul is NOT immortal. That is what we know....just because God said it. But, you don't trust God, do you? You think He may be lying? I'm pretty sure He doesn't need to lie. Nope. I think He has a plan....and it includes the restoration and reconciliation of ALL things. Does that seem fair?

@Biosphere Ahhh..."free" will? We must look forward to many conversations and perspectives together, about everything....Lots of questions myself so maybe we can reason together to find some answers? Earlier, you mentioned something about humans being here for hundreds of thousands of years? Who knows? All the speculations by students who also want answers to existence and causes and reasons for why the Universe works the way it does seem more or less to be stabs in the dark. I have enough for now to simply consider the last, say, 6 or 7 thousand years. Of course have my own theories and stabs...and, by the way...heard the phrase drips and drabs yesterday...that's the 2nd time I recall ever hearing it. The first was from you! Anyway, I think there is way morre that we don't know than we do! In my view, the first cause was/is God. And, this is His Story. Being the first cause, He takes credit and liability for ALL of His Creation, or, should I say responsibility for it, and I believe He will make all things new, in the sense of restoring Creation...all of it, back to its original perfection and goodness. I believe that it was "All good", when He pronounced it so...and I believe He is very involved...more than we know...with its destination. So, when we look at "nature" and a gazelle being chased down and killed and eaten by a cheetah, for example, I don't think it used to be that way, and it doesn't "seem" fair...but, what happens to the gazelle after it dies? Do we know? No, we don't. What happens to the life? Where does it go? What is it? Regarding "free" will...I believe we have wills, but I, too, question how "free" they are.

@Biosphere I don't want to readdress what I spent an hour thinking and typing about before it vanished, but I did like where it was going...really. So, I'll take a whole different tack. Regarding our journey together here...It's 'uncanny', if that's the word, from where you seem to be coming from, based on my readings of your posts...and experiences I have had in my own. I can understand why God crossed our paths, now. I know, I know, you don't believe there is a providential hand guiding anything. Yet you tolerate me. That's good, I think. By the way, I don't feel a need to ram my beliefs down your throat, yet, there is a Bible passage that declares something like: :Unless two are in agreement, they won't walk together very far....and so, I am trying to find those things upon which we may agree. Once we find those, we may delve into other areas to discuss those things upon which we may disagree. We have agreed that most people have a substantial amount of evil within us. Correct? We have agreed that it is good to treat one another with respect and honor...even if there is disagreement. We haven't found agreement yet on whether we think life is fair, nor have we really discussed it, but I suspect we are about to. I have verbally disagreed with those who make the statement that life is not fair...by saying I don't think we see far enough to make that judgment. So, May I ask you; Do you think life is fair? Obviously, that entails a definition of what is life? And, then, of course, what is the definition of fair? Thanks

@Biosphere I noticed that I did not answer your last question. I imagine you're busy with the Hurricane, so will attempt to respond to this question now: you wrote: "Also I need to ask, and/or confirm- that you are a diehard Christian that believes the bible fundamentally?...If I'm assuming this to be the correct depiction of your position on the labeling of your explanation and/or acceptance of a complete blueprint of/for existance and it's ultimate meaning handed down to you(or all of us) without any body needing to do any of the work to figure it all out, --- well, I jumbled up too much of a exhausting word/sentence salad there...I guess what I'm really trying to question or confirm is, why do you believe that the bible is the true words of God, instead of potentially some sadly "hand me down" poetry attempts from very many men with common faults?" That's a big question. But, I will try. Toward the last of your previous post you mentioned you'd learned that MOST people are evil. That's what the Bible says, too. People are untrustworthy, for the time being...including our own selves. It also says: "He who trusts in himself is a fool." Along with : "There is none good," All have sinned and fallen short of (or, lack) the glory of God. "We all, like sheep, have gone astray...." So, what's a soul to do? How does anyone KNOW anything? Can anything be trusted? The problem of evil in the world is a big deal. Where did it come from? Why is it here? If God is good, why does He allow it? If He is all=powerful, all knowing, and everywhere, why doesn't He just banish it?? Probably need to look at this more closely in another thread. Anyway....I remember as a kid, asking : everyone blames the devil for all the evil....but if God made him good, what force caused him to sin? If there was no evil in the world...where did it come from. Well, I discovered that God created it. I discovered that He even created the devil or the serpent, evil, from the beginning. Now, most Xhristians don't buy my discovery, yet, but they will eventually, because it is true. So now the question becomes, Why did God create evil? Not going to touch that one yet...if you don't mind. I think all of us creatures are trying to find answers to our many many questions. Some have gotten so discouraged that they don't even like asking the questions anymore. Some even try to fill their lives with 'noise' so they don't have to think of them anymore either. Others pretend they have the answers and mislead many others and try to get them to believe the same answers they've come up with....even though they don't have the truth. Even Jesus said that MANY would come in His name, saying He is the Christ, but they would DECEIVE MANY! So, I find that many don't know the TRUTH, though they try...

Definitely not garbage. And please, don't worry about offending me or even 'disrespecting' me. I appreciate the challenge not to take offense, even if you meant to! It's all part of the reality of our getting to know one another. You are an interesting dude, if I may be so crass..if that's the word. (I usually don't use the word 'dude') (or, even crass, for that matter). I don't know how old you are, but you remind me of my grandson, and a bit of his experience with life, so far. He is almost 20, now. He has two different colored eyes. He is gifted with high intelligence, or should I say cursed with it. And, he found some "escape" in making music. He plays guitar better than anyone I know...but can't sing...though he doesn't know that. When he was 7 he was out for a visit. We were walking through our acreage and he said: "Grandpa, I'm having a little trouble sleeping." I said: "So, what are you thinking about?" He replied: "If my mom and dad hadn't of made me, where would I be?" (He's 7....) So, I said: "Well, that's an interesting question. what answer did you come up with?" "I'd probably be somebody else." he said, and we continued our walk. His parents divorced when he was about 14 when his mom had an affair with some joker rich guy. She was a preacher's kid...so his other grandpa was an 'esteemed' leader of a large 'church' and then a professor at a seminary who ended up remarrying his mom to the adulterer. Needless to say, my grandson has soured a bit to public hypocrisy of professed religious people. He had a lot of trouble "fitting in" with the other kids in school because he was "different". School bored him. All that stuff.... I watched from a distance, knowing that God was using all these heartaches and challenges to train him for whatever purpose He has for him....trying to offer a bit of advice or wisdom when it seemed appropriate....but not trying to interfere with God's plan either. So, he had questions....questions about life and existence and reality and how to make sense of it all....just like you. Just like most of us. He "opened his mind" with drugs and hanging out with music friends when he moved out of his dad's house when he was 18 and discovering other people's and cultures' attempts to answer the same questions he was having about existence. He's ...

And, yes, if the reason for going into business is only to obtain money, then, I suggest one re-evaluate one's soul.

On another 'note', you don't find operating those magnificent machines across the beauty of God's creation, while you encounter the many fine and respectful and unselfish drivers of 4 wheels that come across your path, a satisfying and beneficial way to "make a living" and enjoy the life that God has given you? :) If not, we're going to have to work on your outlook, or attitude, or whatever to give you a bit more peace in life....

@Naomi Abram's first wife was Sarai. God called him to leave his family and go to a place that God would show him. He said OK. So he left his country and while passing through Egypt, the Pharaoh liked the looks of Sarai and wanted her as a concubine. Abram told her to tell him that Abram was her sister because he thought the Pharaoh would kill him. In a dream God warned the Pharaoh who she was, so he didn't touch her and even gave her one of his daughters, Hagar, from one of his "wives". God changed Abram's name to Abraham after promising that he and his wife Sarai, whose name would be changed to Sarah, would have a son, even though Sarah was very old! Sarah couldn't believe it so told Abram to take the slave woman, Hagar to wife, which resulted in Ishmael, the first born son of Abram. Later, the promised son, Isaac, was born to the ninety year old Sarah! Abraham was 100 years old!

Jesus said that He came to fulfill...meaning He came to preach the Law more fully..He magnified the Law and made it deeper, more penetrating....the goal of which is to have the law written within and on our hearts so that we are in complete agreement with it! and we don't sin against our Creator and Redeemer! Sin is still defined as transgressing the Law of God. Some "Christians" are taught that God got rid of sin by getting rid of His Law. That is crazy teaching.

Corporations with boards of directors, where the CEO is paid an annual salary of multi-millions, if the shareholders are pleased with their returns on investment, as compared to others, while the 'employees' of the corporation must be content with their meager salaries, or find work elsewhere, or start their own corporation to compete... So, you think the figures of CEO salaries rising over 1000% while workers' salaries rising only 12% is bogus? Interesting. How about the salaries of football coaches? Think they are commensurate with value produced? People say the divide between the "have and the have nots" increasing to 'insane' levels is not conducive to a just and peaceful society. dmatic comments on Aug 18, 2019:
Not sure I understand the question, Tommy. It seems that some of us are seeking to understand the age-old question, of who are we?. Who do we identify with? Why not just add another twist to your mobius strip?

@TommyApplecore Look forward to it! Take your time....
The true core of the Jesus myth is represented quite well here. [youtu.be]

"The only gift ...independent intelligence"......Very sad. The guy thinks he knows more than he does....and that that he thinks he knows ain't so.

@Biosphere Well, I, too, used to be a drunk. Then I read a scripture that scared me. It said something like...Do not be deceived...neither....then it listed many types of characters...and included "neither drunkards" would inherit the kingdom of God....I think it was 1 Cor. 6:9-11. It scared me because I just assumed I was such a great guy that I would be going to heaven...nothing to worry about. That scripture made me realize that I was deceived. Later that weekend, I was at a bar, and stepped out with one of my old high school buddies to smoke a joint, and I told him about what I had discovered in the Bible. Long story, short, 27 years ago, approx. I had the privilege of baptizing him in the YMCA swimming pool. Of course, my understanding of reality has changed since and I no longer see things, let us say, in the 'orthodox' way. It's been an exciting journey, to say the least. Still have unresolved questions about some mysteries...but, even they seem to be being used to propel me onward in my search. I suppose you want me to share with you my biggest divergence from "Christianity", and I will, maybe in another thread. Anyway, Your guy said something like Jesus' biggest error in teaching was when He said: Take no thought for the morrow....then he ridiculed the teaching, a bit too arrogantly and smugly, for my taste. His sophomoric response indicates he doesn't understand. Jesus' teaching is/was needed in a world where most are worried. So, what did He actually say? Presumably, you have a Bible to look up the passage? Or do you want me to type it out for you? Matthew 6:25-34 Of course, this is just a portion of His famous Sermon on the Mount. Beautiful stuff! I appreciate your quest my friend, but, I need to finish my computer work for the day, and then get busy. I expect to continue our conversations. So, do you consider yourself to be an atheist or an agnostic? I know that someday you will find peace.
This is community spirit, no?
GeeMac comments on Aug 18, 2019:
Buying local is a great idea because it keeps money in the community. Still, I can’t buy the smug, bumper sticker morality of the sign itself. It’s a great example of how to turn a good idea into something that divides, rather then inspires.

@GeeMac What tone would you use?

Not aware of any flaw...if the object, or goal, is community. When one treats others as they would like to be treated you get a world of kindness and compassion, and justice. The other model of "doing what's best for me", as in it's cheaper to buy from the big box stores...I get more for my ...

@george I hear you, George, but, in reverse, that is what the 'employers' are doing, too....buying labor at the cheapest price.... There is much work to do to solve the problems that an unjust economy have imposed on people....Got any answers?
How Christianity was created.
dmatic comments on Aug 16, 2019:
Wow. I take it you've been wounded yourself? Jesus, Himself, said that many would come in His name but would deceive many. Don't fall for their deceptions.
dmatic replies on Aug 19, 2019:
@FoundationSage I take it, then, that you are of the mind that Paul was a false Apostle? Not sure of your assertion that the writers of Jesus had never met the man. Matthew and John, for sure. Peter, Yes. James, Yes. Paul, yes, on the road to Damascus.... But, I hear you when you imply that there has been much false teaching in Jesus' name! What's the antidote? Truth, I suppose, and the blessing of being given a love for truth.
