@Biosphere I realize that you are a poor victim of a skewed and evil world. A world that is rigged against you, and you seem to be resentful of the iron or clay spoon you were born with, envying those who had advantages you weren't dealt. And, how dare I suggest that there is more to life than wealth, because you are forced to give up 60-70 hours per week in its pursuit, but, it is possible that you are the blessed one. It is my opinion that character is more valuable than wealth. Riches are an illusion. So is poverty....in a way. Temporary conditions that we all go through...learning as we may. This is not to say that I believe the "system" is not rigged. I work to make the system fair for everyone. Justice for everybody harms nobody. We need a just system to replace the unjust one we are all saddled with. It will come in its time. Conditions may first crumble and the current system be found wanting as 'tribulation' comes, but is necessary to prepare the ground for the new, just system that will replace it.

dmatic replies on Dec 2, 2019:
@Crikey I do kinda get it when it comes to faith. Bible defines faith as, depending on the version, the 'substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen', or, "the assurance of things hoped for , the conviction of things not seen." Many types and temperaments of people God has created, and we all approach life differently. I think of the famed apostle: Doubting Thomas, for example, who wouldn't believe the report of Jesus' resurrection from the dead unless he saw and touched the wounds inflicted on Him. Thomas was a good guy, too! But, he didn't want to be a dupe, he wanted evidence! Jesus didn't condemn him for that, merely said: "blessed", or happy are those who believe without "seeing". Maybe you've noticed, or, maybe not, but people who believe, having received the outlook as a gift, are often happier than those who struggle with the millions of questions we all seem to have. They just have a child-like trust and live their lives in hope that things will work out, even believing they will, so they try not to worry about stuff. The paths are just different. Who knows if one is better than the other? So, Thomas chose not to believe simply the report of Jesus' resurrection, because he had seen Jesus die! As far as he knew, resurrection after death was impossible! It is, after all, a very interesting claim, isn't it? None of us living in this present age, presumably, were not there to witness what many of the reporters said they saw, who gave their personal accounts of what they witnessed, and, we know that others falsely reported it as a lie, that His disciples came and stole the body of Jesus away from the tomb....no resurrection they said. So, we are left to ponder if we will. Who had reason to lie about it? Who was telling the truth? Certainly the religious hierarchy of the day had reason to try to squelch the rumors. And, we know that many who reported that they had witnessed Jesus after His resurrection, never recanted their testimony, even though threatened with death for not doing so. Even Saul whose name was changed to Paul after His encounter with the risen Christ, had believed the evil liars of his 'religion' and felt justified going about, trying to stamp out the competing story. So, often the question comes up...why doesn't God reveal Himself to atheists, as He did to Paul, with an encounter that blinded him for a time? A fine and legit question. There, obviously, is an answer. And, of course, there is also much speculation about an answer. We'd probably better ask Him, though, if we want the truth. To believe that God can raise someone to life, after they've died, is no stretch for me, however. The stretch for me is, how did they come to life in the first place!
Jordan Peterson.

dmatic replies on Dec 1, 2019:
@JimbobNE Truth is reality, in my view. Just trying to understand reality. What is. There are countless ideas about reality, of course, some in conflict with one another. I just think it's interesting to see how people approach all the questions that life and death seem to present. You wrote: "...god...is invisible and hiding in heaven waiting for judgement day so god may cast all evil doers to hell. That is in regards to the christian god anyway, ..." That may be some people's idea of what Christianity declares but I'm pretty sure that is very wrong. Obviously, they don't know God. Knowing God seems to be the goal of my life. I realize it to be a monumental undertaking, but He invites us all to know Him. in fact He declares that in His New Covenant with His creation that ALL will know HIm, from the least to the greatest! And He will not hold our sins against Him against us.... Do you ever think about where you came from and where you are going?

@Crikey I'm not sure I know any body who has left 'the faith'. I'm just trying to understand why someone would. First, I suppose, one would have to define "the faith". There are all kinds of faith. Whatever that may mean. Some of those may have some element of truth, maybe. Some may not. I suppose your faith that there is no God can be described as a faith, too. @Biosphere Yes, we have written a bunch. Remember, we're going to do that campfire someday. One of my best friends...long story....dove off a tree out at the lakes and broke his neck, too, resulting in his present condition, a quadriplegic, when we were 15. We were born on the same day from different mothers, but he is my brother. Strongest guy I know. That was over 52 years ago. First couple years after the 'accident' were tough. Unanswered questions, bitterness and anger..disappointment...etc. He was on track to become the state champion wrestler in his weight class. Somehow, he persevered and never gave up. Something within him, his spirit in my view, knew God had a purpose in all of it. He became vice-president of the student body in high school, went on to college and ran for County Clerk and won. He's been re-elected 11 or 12 times...over 44 years in office. No scandals...doesn't complain about too much...spreads hope and cheer wherever he goes...even though life has dealt him many severe blows. Just last week he had a pace-maker installed. His wife of 30 years up and left him. One of his favorite brothers died early. His dad died when he was 2. His oldest brother became a girl about ten or twelve years ago. He had open heart surgery years ago...etc. and everyday is a struggle, but he is pretty self sufficient, though he pays someone to mow his lawn! And scoop his snow! He somehow accepted his wife's failure and doesn't hold grudges, though he suffers for his two boys, one of which is an engineer and just yesterday got an invitation to his wedding in June. He lives by himself now in his house, and after his wife left started the on line dating stuff and has dates with different girls at least three times a week! I could go on and on about my friend, but, someday, I hope, all of this will make sense. In fact, I trust that it will. The rich man and Lazurus story, gives me hope that God will use all of the suffering and seeming injustice in the world to perfect His Creation and we will all be amazed!
Have you forgiven the 9/11 terrorists yet?

Interesting. Even Christ in His parable, suggests that He calls those who did not want Him to rule over them to be brought before Him and slain in His presence. So, it does appear that repentance by the offender is important.

dmatic replies on Nov 20, 2019:
@Clarken OK, so, the alternative to forgiveness is not forgiveness? What does it mean to not forgive someone? I presume it means requiring the offender to "pay" for their sin, meaning to 'suffer' the required penalty that the law suggests? I am not against suffering, by the way, as, apparently, God uses suffering to perfect us.....and certainly to correct us. The concept of "forgiving God", however seems weird to say the least. To need to forgive someone usually implies that the person transgressed in some way. God, doesn't need "forgiving", of course, because He doesn't transgress, or violate His own Law.

@Naomi Yes, I got your train of thought. But, I want to help you see that envy and conceit are not emotions, they are thoughts. Our thoughts do lead to emotions like a caboose follows a train. Certainly, the discomfort you feel when you notice your feelings and thoughts can be used as motivation to address the remedy. Good luck.
