100% Government Health Care. What does it mean for you?
Halligan comments on Jun 7, 2019:
I am seriously concerned and worried that the US will continue down this road. I think that voters who say they support this type of health care don't realize what will be involved and its consequences.
Bay0Wulf replies on Jun 7, 2019:
@Naomi So ... several of my relations are in medically oriented fields &/or businesses ... My Mom and Sister had a Visiting Nurse/Home Care and Medical Equipment Company that was struggling with the nonsense of our Medicare/Medicaid system in terms of getting proper payment for services and materials provided (Medicare & Medicaid can retroactively change what they pay for items as far back as far 18 months, tell you they overpaid you and now you owe them all that back money ... as a credit for future services and materials) they were struggling but were okay until the ACA was passed. The ACA cut their rates so that they reimbursed less than cost ... and the Insurance Companies followed exactly and the ACA said that they had to continue to provide regardless. It took less than 5 months to drive the companies into bankruptcy ... worse, owing over $250,000 ... They employed 27 Nurses (5 RNs, 22 LPNs), 88 Home Care People, 4 Therapists, 3 Equipment Deliver & Assemblers, 11 Office Staff ... not to mention 3 Family Members who were Chief Cook and Bottle Washers (one an RN herself) ... 133 people out of a job ... Worse, all their clients (some 700+ people) had to find someone else to provide these services while 4 other nearby area agencies were forced out of business as well ... Equipment sales shifted more than 80 miles away and though the suppliers are supposed to deliver, set-up and install, what happened is they “deliver” ... how do you use the stuff? No support. What do you do with a hospital bed that arrives on your porch as pieces needing to be moved into the house and assembled where it belongs when you’re 65 and own no tools and are not “Handy”? People are receiving specialized health care items and have no idea how to use them properly ... and no-one to show them. The doctors in the family all have had their small group care centers close and went to work for large “Medical Centers” which are centralized and poorly serve a large rural community ... people now have to travel 25-35 miles to “see a doctor” ... they don’t even know what happened to their patients of several years ... Worse, the ACA demanded that doctors use an Electronic Medical Record System to Record ALL Patient Visits ... Patient Visits are counted as “Units” ... one “Unit” is now supposed to be 15-20 minutes and it takes an average of 10 minutes to fill all the boxes in the EMR (IF you’re really good) so the Patient actually gets to interact with the Doctor for about 5 minutes and then the Doctor has to go to the next Patient. The Doctors are leaving the business because they can’t provide “Care” ... meanwhile, the ACA is trying to cut back what EVERYONE is making ... or make them do more in less time ... or both. The ACA has also loaded ...

@purdyday Okay so ... I’ll give you two links that explain the “Belt and Road” Strategy below. Basically the Chinese go into various countries ... mostly Asian and Middle East but also Africa and Europe ... and “help” them by building roads, ports and infra-Structure (like we used to do) the way they talk it up, it’s because they’re being “nice guys” but ... in return they basically demand many concessions, sometimes ownership and payback ... depending on what they can get away with. There have already been cases where they have tried to claim “ownership” when countries were too slow to pay them back ... or, they build a port and get “operations” as part of the bargain and then act to “accidentally” stifle “other” trade as they prioritize their own so they get “first call” on materials as a Supplier and/or Buyer not to mention being able to “block” other competing countries ... as well as several other cute moves that make the Country they’ve “helped” become beholden to them. It’s kind of like letting the Mob “help you out” and the you can NEVER get them out of your life...and the “favor” turns out to have a pretty hefty price tag ... Personally, I think the way they got “operations” of the Panama Canal to have been an early step in this strategy ... we (the USA) returned the canal to Panama and less than a month later a Chinese Company “bought” the operation. Or like the Port here that Trump forced them basically to return to US Ownership Anyway ... This will give you the idea ... notice the first one is under “Diplomacy / Defense” https://www.scmp.com/news/china/diplomacy-defence/article/2091758/all-you-need-know-about-chinas-belt-and-road-initiative https://www.scmp.com/comment/insight-opinion/article/3009308/china-plays-waiting-game-economy-and-bets-everything-belt

I’ve no doubt that the CCP will try to weather the storm hoping that Trump is replaced by a typical politician that they can go back to “business as usual” with. I expect that they will try to seem to agree to some things while keeping an eye on the likely election results but ... somehow ..ever quite manage to do them while offering a whole raft of excuses. I don’t expect President Trump to let that happen but I’m confident they will try. Actually, this is totally typical of Chinese Culture in dealing with “round eyes” dating back hundreds of years ... promise and agree and bow and accept responsibility and ... do nothing. The CCP does have a pretty firm grip on the populace so they’ll manage to stop them from any overt reaction for probably a year ... maybe a bit more ... but the CCP has disrupted the system that they had ... that they inherited... they also allowed the people to experience a form of “capitalism” and I’d guess they are going to have a hell of a time “putting the goose back in the bottle”. China has typically played a “Long Game” that can take decades or longer to unfold. My concern is not really 2020 ... it is 2024 ... I don’t see anyone stepping up to carry on Trump’s direction or momentum. Actually, I expect China to become a lot more aggressive. I expect China to start feeding their people the concept of being on a “war” footing to explain why they have to “tighten” their belts. I expect that there will be several “incidents” as they try to threaten the USA but also many of those little countries that “Owe” them for being coerced into accepting aid under the “Belt and Road” Policy. They’ve begun to establish a better relationship with Russia ... but I’m still trying to determine how much of a problem a Chin-Rus alliance will be ...or in what way.

The only serious advantage they have is the ability to make stuff CHEAP and the tariffs put a good sided dent in that aspect. Ben Franklin said; “Its a Republic ... if you can keep it ...” Tocqueville warned; “a Democracy will only last as long as it takes a “Majority” to realize that it can vote itself anything it wants...” (Sorry for the paraphrase but that’s close) We are at the point that both of those Learned, Wise men were talking about. Oddly enough, a couple years ago Our Democratic Republic was teetering on the edge of destruction but Obama’s lunacy woke up a bunch of Patriots and Trump is not only propping them/Us up, but actually rolling back decades of damage. The reactions to Trump’s actions and the make-up of the people reacting pretty much tells you how close we were to having the Great Experiment that is the United States of America fall into the Dustbin of History ...

@Naomi “Cows and sheep eat lots of grass. So, as far as I'm concerned, beef and lamb are a good source of leafy vegetables, which makes me a vegan.” (That WAS you ... right?) Well, it sounds pretty hypocritical to me. Every place that deals with any form of “butchering” looks like an abattoir. Most of those people simply exclude cameras because they know people just can’t handle the image. You sound like some people I know who are perfectly okay with buying meats at the grocery because it comes in clean, carefully wrapped packages ... it’s obviously not related to an “actual” animal that was walking around, eating, breathing and “being cute” ... I even know people who raise ... or pay others to raise ... animals for them and quite eagerly accept the white paper wrapped or seal-a-mealed packages from the butcher but would NEVER be able to do it themselves ... or even watch. I have friends and family who are thrilled to be offered venison but take some odd high-road moral stance as they stuff another piece of deer into their mouths. Funniest of all, they act like these animals don’t extract their own “price” from the environment. In NJ the deer population has gotten so out of hand that the deer are driving other animals ... notably birds, small rodents and their predators into local extinction because the deer eat all the low browse and bushes. Then, there’s the “Save the Bear” crowd ... right up until the bear shows up in THEIR back yard on a weekly basis to tear apart their garbage cans. My mom was one of those for years until it got to the point that I had to go out to her house and shoot a sow that was throwing off 2-3 cubs a year and threatening my mom every time she stepped out of the house ... but, according to some, that should’ve been okay because the sow was only “being protective” of her cubs... She was disturbed that I butchered the bear up in the woods but it went into my freezer and made several great meals. Killing and then rendering (butchering) meat for food and storage is messy ... get over it

Further, it was somewhat cynically set originally at 65 because that was the mean current “Life Expectancy” ... that is, people weren’t expected to live long enough to be drawing from the Funds for more than a couple years. Bay0Wulf replies on May 26, 2019:
@michaelBurns3 First off, the reason I put “Civilization” in quotation marks is due to some questions about when it did “start”. All known archeological information currently does not support an earlier “Civilization” or, if an earlier “Civilization” did exist, there is nothing to indicate that it survived to hand any information forward. Ergo, if one did exist, it was a “Dead Civilization” ... admittedly there ARE “things” that indicate that there might have been much more to “the Story of Mankind” but, to date, those “things” raise questions but present no answers. Secondly, regardless of whether there might have been predecessor or not, EVERYTHING having to do with Our Current Civilization can be followed and supported by heavy evidence directly to Mesopotamia ... to Sumer/Ur. There is massive archaeological evidence that runs back before Domesticated Crops, Domesticated Livestock, before an Actual Written Language and back to the Beginning of “Known Pottery”. Third, there are definite signs of “Coordinated Efforts” ... potentially Human in nature ... but not much evidence to hang any theory on ... except one source. The in depth writings of the Sumerians ... and those Sumerian/Babylonian writings preserved by the Hittites and Assyrians. The Sumerians timeline goes as far back as to be “Before there was Earth”. Interestingly enough, the Judaic Bible (aka the Old Testament) is a rewrite of the Sumerian Historical Texts and, as far as either can be “verified” it seems they hold up quite well ... even if there are differences in certain details.

@Juliann I don’t know your working environment or location so I can’t say what is applicable in your life. I worked in several locations in the Greater Metro NY Area and I can tell you that there are women there ... many of them ... who are as intent on “getting ahead” ... “climbing the ladder” ... as any man. A man will do anything and everything to undermine you (another man), discredit you, steal or take credit for your work, they will climb up your back and use your head for a step stool if it gets them where they want to go. However, I can see this in a man and very few are sly about it. It’s in your face and very obvious. There are women out there who are very bit as bad but they’re much more crafty. They feel entitled to use “their charm” ... until it suits them not to at which point (I’ve seen it happen) they levy accusations ... much like the reaction you see in any recently “broken” relationship. Women will often say ANYTHING ... I’ve had women “come on” to me who I KNEW weren’t attracted ... I’ve worked around women on a long term basis where I could observe what their game plan was ... what they were “doing” ... and they had a definite plan and a definite goal and if they felt they had to use sex or the suggestion of sex to get what they were after, they did. No ... I know ... and have known ... women who basically “notch their bedposts” and use their “inside knowledge” to climb through a company ... who often specifically target men who are married or “in a relationship” specifically so they can pressure them later. This whole #metoo movement has, on one hand, given these women an incredibly powerful weapon but, much like the advent of Herpes and AIDS has caused most intelligent men to take a step back ... to adopt a “Pence-like” attitude. Most men are now backing away from being alone in a room with a woman with the door closed and most seriously important business discussions require some degree of privacy ... Close the door and talk quietly ... with a woman? Not a chance ... a 1% possibility that it might be used at some time against them is .001% too big a chance. It’s sad really, since the workplace is where men and women often used to meet and develop relationships that often resulted in long term situations and even marriage but several years ago men started backing away due to the danger ... now, I know a lot of men that have developed an almost allergic reaction to women in the workplace. To think, I used to think it was funny to hear my girlfriend (a nurse) tell me how she was required to “sit in” on gynecological exams when the Gyno was a Male. She was required so she could verify that no “funny business” occurred during the exam. No ... I’m willing to ...

Well it’s good that there are people (Women) like you that go a long way towards proving my point. Men’s Athletic Clubs began to admit women when they were forced to do so ... and, as I pointed out, suddenly “Women’s Only Clubs” began to be opened ... I know as I was helping build both aspects of this “change” ... I can assure you it wasn’t a financial “windfall” they experienced. It was some hyper-feminist threatening to drag them into court. As to “pay inequality” ... this has been debunked over and over again so, I’m not kidding anybody. As to women “experiencing harassment” is concerned, of course they did ... sex was an “angle” used because it was available AND some women are not above actually using it themselves ... but EVERY Single Person Climbing That Ladder (Male, Female, WhoCares) “experiences harassment” of several different kinds ... it’s simply part of the “winnowing” process. In order to climb that ladder ... to be allowed to get up that ladder every pressure is brought to bear to see if the person can be broken ... will break ... at a critical juncture. Yup ... and there you are ... “The #metoo movement...”, yeah, okay ... so now EVERY Male with any sense at all will simply avoid dealing with women in ANY capacity ... do you think that’s going to work out in the “favor” of ANY woman? It won’t. Late night “skull sessions”, in depth work sessions, tough business discussions will simply not include women in the mix. Why should men take the chance? It used to be that women could whine that they were being “discriminated” against but now, they’ve given men the Perfect Reason to disinclude them ... they can simply say they “Feared” or had “Grave Concerns” that a woman might lie or falsely accuse ... its no longer “discrimination” ... no, it’s a Sound Business Practise to Disinclude Women. Different reasoning perhaps but the same outcome that women fought to overcome and now have given a tremendous amount of ground on. Personally, I’ve known LOTS of women that I could work well with one on one without anyone else around ... we were doing a job ... and have no sense of frisson but ... these days? As is obvious by now the DemLeft is using these exact same tactics against anyone that President Trump seeks to bring in on his “team” (Cabinet & etc) to the point where many possible appointees are simply refusing because they do not want to be “Kavanaughed” or “Flynned” ... This is Extremely Detrimental to the proper functioning of Our Nation and has hurt the President in doing his job. It is noteworthy that one of the complaints of the DemLeft and Deep State RINOs and Establishment have been repeating endlessly that President Trump’s Administration is woefully incomplete or understaffed even as they do everything Possible to KEEP it that way. Once you add to this the concept that at least one of the “Top Agencies” (I believe the FBI?) stated clearly that Flynn, in fact DID NOT LIE ... which is what they used as a pretext to go after him to begin with ... it becomes pretty obvious that the actions against Flynn were simply a “Hit Job” ... @EliCaesar Ahhh ... No. “Christianity has just as much blood on its hands as Islam” is a false statement. I’m not saying that Christianity doesn’t have lots of blood and darkness in its past. There’s no denying that. There has been much done in the name of Christianity that is rather shameful and, as with Muslims/Islam, much of that was done between different sects of the “Core” faith. (Catholics vs Protestant vs Lutheran etc). Most of Christianity however reached a point where they matured out of that phase and, if compared to Islam, it was a period that, by comparison was relatively short in duration. (Yes there remain some exceptions) However, the numbers put up by Islam are truly staggering ... numbering well into the multiples of millions and have only been slowed by being physically beat back ... and even that didn’t stop them. What Islam did to India and Africa and Eastern Europe is actually much worse than they did to Western Europe. No ... I can understand and relate to your thought process but; “...Just as much...” is completely false. I suggest you spend some time looking into the true history of these topics.

@Farmergramma I dunno ... I talk to people all the time whose knowledge and interest in various topics are not the same as mine. I simply don’t talk to them about those things. The fact I consider Government and Politics to be extremely important doesn’t mean they do. More to point, I often speak to people who consider themselves “farmers” about soil science and manure remediation and they think that they already know everything there is to know about it when factually, they don’t know much at all. These people tend to doggedly follow whatever they were taught and scoff at my input because I am not a “farmer”. They don’t care that I can bring them to other farms that follow my suggestions and programs and have experienced marked, tangible results. Even as they look at those same farmers and remark to me that those farmers are just “lucky”. Small farms fail all the time because of wrongheaded practices. Politics is another one of those things ... many of the ideas that these people support, fail miserably but those same people simply say it’s because it wasn’t done “right” rather than to re-examine whether those things were simply “not right” to begin with.
Why is it that every time you address economic inequality you get accused of being a socialist?

@waynus I don’t think that what you are advocating is necessarily “Socialism” though it IS “Anti-Capitalism” and further, it IS Bad Business Practices. If a company follows your script and refuses to pay the PRICE required to attract and retain people who are the Top of Their Discipline ... it will simply be another “also ran” ... another “second rate” entity who will be unable to compete in the Highest Strata of Whatever Industry they’re in. That’s fine as long as You and Your Fellow Shareholders are willing to continue to support a lackadaisical entity. Most shareholders are not so ... altruistic. In MY portfolio I will not accept ANY lackadaisical return or response and I would pull my retirement funds (401k) from ANY Investment Company that turned in a lackadaisical performance.

Well ... personally I think you’re an ass. The Notre Dame and most buildings of antiquity which continue to stand are monuments to the achievements of mankind. The engineering, the tradecraft, the artistry of the work done in the building of the Notre Dame is astounding. It’s not a matter so much of religion to a huge population but the sweat and toil and pennies of devout people glorifying “God” but in the process created a statement of ability. Personally I think you more than an ass.

@Farmergramma The only thing I can suggest is that when you interact with them is that you stick to relatively “safe” subjects. If they’re farmers of any type, soil, manure remediation (use, composting & etc.), “natural” growing methods, cover crops are all relatively “safe”. Scoffing at their llamas is not ... unless you like to talk “wool” ... if you want to really blow their minds, spend some time learning about Carbon Char (see Terra Preta) which, if you are into farming on any scale is astounding in its ability to transform soil and increase its output by terrific amounts (I know a LOT about this subject). “Heritage” crops or animals are usually good topics and actually some of them can be quite interesting and marketably valuable.

I’ve noticed that if you are involved in art or “soil studies” at almost ANY level, ALL the people you wind up dealing with ... except most of the farmers ... are WAY Out in Loonie Leftist Land. I’ve learned to talk with them without revealing how stupid I believe them to be. It’s really odd that, factually, many of those people are quite brilliant ... at least in a point or two ... but incredibly stupid in almost everything else. I attribute it to the Blind Squirrel finds a Nut Syndrome ...

Well ... I don’t disagree with you ... much ... I would like to clarify one of your points however ... “doctors have limits on how many new Medicare patients they can accept” While the same can be said about MedicAid, the fact is, that Doctors and many Clinics limit “how many” they WILL accept ... not CAN. MediCare and MedicAid discount their payments to the providers ... often steeply ... AND pack a tremendous amount of Rules and Regulations and Requirements into doing business with them ... not to mention arbitrary changes in payment rates that often backdate as much as a year or more. Most Doctors and Private Clinics, Private Home Care, Private Providers simply won’t take ANY Insurance because if you take ANY you have to take a percentage of your patients as MediCare/MedicAid patients. Often the patients who DO have Insurance of some sort, are required to pay the bill and get THEIR money back from the “insurance” company.
