"We have given out “Candy” " Is there a powerful mouse in your pocket? I can't give out "Candy," so leave me out of your COLLECTIVE "we," please. I am asking nice.

“We” is, of course, the “collective we”. While on a one by one, personal basis, “we” the individual, might be completely against such a move, Our Government Representatives ... acting on Our Behalf ... broke out the “Feel Good and Compassionate” Candy Bowl. Of course the DemLeft thinks that the Candy Bowl should be transformed into a bottomless cornucopia and is pressing for the “Program” to be reauthorized ... extended ... I can hear you saying; I didn’t vote for these cretins!!! Indeed ... you did ... either directly by voting for them or indirectly for casting your vote to someone who lost or by not voting at all ... any Choice is a Choice and the results are as much your fault as anyone’s ... I know that sounds odd but, if you think about it, its true.

Unfortunately I guess you could be right in calling it “outrage” but it seems to me to be mostly the “Canned Expletives” which have little thought or even little thought process behind the posts. These seem to be the people who are completely pissed off (maybe) or are deliberate agitators who simply interject whatever vituperative reaction they’ve conjured up or worse, have been fed. People such as these tend not to be able to present any type of argument in much the same way as they cannot engage in “A Battle of the Wits” as they arrive to the Battle completely unarmed but simply with a “Need” to run in, wave their flag, scream and tell themselves they’ve “Scored” by leaving their Mental Graffiti in yet one more place. It Serves No Purpose to Have a “Battle of the Wits” with Unarmed People.

Appreciate the candid opinion. Things are definitely changing for us, but we at IDW/Slug are having this same conversation daily. Hopefully we'll come to something that can generates interest to usher in new members while keeping the intellectual discussions alive for our seasoned participants.
Bay0Wulf replies on May 31, 2020:
Well, I hope you can “come to something” before too many of the “seasoned participants” give in to their mounting frustration and leave in search of something more ... relatable. Perhaps simply disconnecting SLUG from IDW will “fix” a large percentage of the problem. Perhaps you could simply disconnect SLUG and then, a couple times a month have an advertised “SLUGFest” for a couple days where you reconnect the sites after which you disconnect them again. That might get you the “New Eyes” you need to attract while giving the IDW Members time to winnow out the ... undesirables(?) between “Fests”. In this manner, you may continue to cater to the people who like ... or prefer ... the SLUG oriented “conversations” and postings.

Well ... often its an item that is trying to pass itself off as something its not ... like a coin ... as in using a “slug” in a vending machine. In construction its that pre-punched out piece often found in conjunction with electrical boxes once its the piece is fully punched out it becomes waste and is referred to as a “slug”. In hunting, its a single large piece of “shot” that acts as a “bullet” in a shotgun. Mostly used in places where long guns (rifles) are not allowed for shooting of large game. Basically ... a “slug” is usually considered to be a counterfeit of something else. Which is not to say that’s what this site is but it usually does have relatively negative connotations.

@Geofrank The “Warrior” is, to my mind, more valid ... in that protection of family, clan, tribe and (maybe) nation are all manifestations of the primal need to preserve Primacy ... furthering one’s Gene Pool. “Knee Jerk” (Reflexive) protection of an unknown ... a stranger ... is simply a Reflex Action. Where one is trained to react in a certain way to certain stimulus. To lose one’s own life in such a manner does not further any goal or need the person may have had. Standing Armies are a completely different thing. In the training a few “warriors” may be uncovered but most are not “Natural Warriors”. In the Military one is trained into more of a “Pack” thought process where you protect each other so that they might protect you. As to the People who have never been combatants and yet owe their very existence and lifestyle to the Men and Women that they blithely ignore or castigate ... I honestly believe there should be TWO Types of Citizenship ... Citizen One who has Served Honorably and who can therefore Hold High Government Office and Vote ... and Citizen Two who has Never Served and therefore has all the Rights of Citizenship but is NOT Permitted to Hold High Government Office or Vote. However, I don’t think “Service” need be synonymous with “Military”. I am a proponent of the idea that ALL Citizens should “Serve” a two year term in Government Service beginning with Military Style “Boot Camp”. It might be obvious I don’t think much of Peoples’ Opinions who haven’t Served in some capacity.

Article VI; 2: This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding. The Constitution and Bill of Rights are Protected for ALL PEOPLE (Citizens) of the United States of America REGARDLESS of Where They May Be or Reside Within the USA. Perhaps it is an almost “heartless” thing to say but, every living thing dies. Some die early and some late. Its what we were born to do. We’ve become quite good at avoiding it ... people generally live healthier, longer lives than just a few decades ago. However, we can’t ... and should not ... live forever ... which means, some people die. This might be rather sudden to you but we have lived through several of these situations through the centuries ... the millennia ... most were much more savage ... more devastating. Our advances in technology and understanding give us the ability to stop this almost before it gets started. The contention ... the statement ... is that we are all too easily giving up Freedoms, Liberties, Lifestyles because we allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by fear and panic yet ... we actually haven’t reached the need for those yet. Honestly, I am more concerned with the Moral, Social and Civil breakdown that is occurring than the virus itself. If Our Government, Our Society breaks down, we will experience a return to the way it used to be ... to paraphrase somebody ... “Life is Brutish and Short. At this point, as the USA does more testing ... and is more transparently releasing its numbers than others ... I would guess our numbers are close to reliable. As with almost every other metric involving Health Care, the USA holds itself to a comparatively high set of standards so a lot of times its like comparing Our Bowl of Deluxe Mixed Nuts to Their Bowl of Cocktail Peanuts and trying to figure out how to decide which makes the best “Snack”

So ... I saw that a few days ago and it was ... interesting ... not overly accurate and missing an awful lot of information I already knew but ... Yeah ... so the concept that in 2015 they were bio-engineering a coronavirus found in ... transmitted and carried by bats ... that could be easy transmitted to humans ... in the BioLab in Wuhan China ... is somehow unrelated? You go on thinking what you want but I find these two pieces to be pretty compelling. I found on 03FEB; “a paper published in the Biorxiv.org journal presented findings that indicated the coronavirus appeared to be engineered with “key structural proteins” of HIV. The paper, entitled, “Uncanny similarity of unique inserts in the 2019-nCoV spike protein to HIV-1 gp120 ... concluded that the engineering of coronavirus with such gene sequences was “unlikely to be fortuitous in nature,” providing strong scientific support for the theory that the coronavirus is an engineered bioweapon that escaped laboratory containment in China. From a 2015 Italian Documentary; “... featured in the 2015 documentary and the Chinese coronavirus, which has wreaked havoc on Italy. In the scientific documentary, Chinese researchers in a laboratory in Beijing managed to graft a surface protein of a coronavirus found in bats onto a virus that causes SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) in mice ... Chinese military surgeon Jiang Yanyong exposed his government’s cover-up of the outbreak that originated in 2002–2003 in the Guangdong Province of China. According to the documentary, the researchers imagined that the hybrid (a “chimera virus”) was suitable for affecting humans, a hypothesis later confirmed by laboratory results. Furthermore, this specific coronavirus was shown to attach itself to our respiratory cells, triggering the syndrome and thus the organism can infect humans “directly from bats without going through an intermediate species, such as the mouse“

Vidmax.com is a questionable source. A questionable source exhibits one or more of the following: extreme bias, consistent promotion of propaganda/conspiracies, poor or no sourcing to credible information, a complete lack of transparency and/or is fake news.

Is there any type geographical problem that would prevent people from working on these Farms?
Bay0Wulf replies on Apr 2, 2020:
Actually ... Yes. Many of those who are unemployed live quite a ways ... many to hundreds of miles ... from such crop work. “Ieuan” there doesn’t know what he/she is talking about. If the people in question live near these farms, the likelihood is that they are already working and the local population is rarely large enough to “get the crop in” when the time comes. When I was a kid in Maine, we used to get a week off from school to go “pick potatoes” ... the entire school and we were expected to show up and do the work. Picking potatoes is actually pretty easy compared to most other crops if you have a limber back. A minor point of FACT ... many farms requiring such work provide “housing” ... not particularly pleasant housing but ... housing. The Migratory Workers who normally provide this labor are used to the requirements to make these places basically livable for the time they tend to be there ... its a “lifestyle” most people can’t imagine. As to “wages” ... paying more ... pretty much ALL Crop Work is paid based on “piece work”. You pick XYZ, you get paid X per unit. The faster and more efficiently you work, the more you make. (Because you picked more) #1. If the farmer raises the payout, they have to raise the prices to “the Market” which has to raise the prices to the “Consumer”. Farmers work on a very slim profit margin. #2. The Average Person CAN NOT simply show up one day and start “Picking”. Each item has a technique and manner that is required to “pick”it. Each has a particular way to do it efficiently, properly and without damage while achieving maximum output. As a kid I “Picked” apples, peaches, berries, potatoes, tobacco and other things. I worked beside Migrant Workers ... Kids ... my own age and I worked faster and faster and harder and harder and I COULD NOT COME CLOSE to their ability ... their efficiency ... and for a local kid, I was considered Very Good. For an 8 year old kid and on through my mid teens I made okay side money and the farmers were happy to have me but they didn’t rely on my output to get the crops in.

@purdyday While I absolutely agree ... specifically and especially in terms of Our Veterans ... much of the problem is exacerbated by various degrees of mental/emotional problems which makes it ... difficult. The first problem is that in order to “help” someone they have to “want” to be “helped” ... and many simply don’t or don’t trust the people trying to “help” them (often with good cause). Unless we decide to deprive them of their “right” to freedom ... of many types ... and, essentially incarcerate them ... at least long enough to clean them up and sort of “normalize” them ... we can’t even begin to “cure” the root cause. Then there are many who are homeless simply because they “fell through the cracks” financially or otherwise ... many of these people would be happy to have a “home” but require being totally supported in every aspect as they simply will not do anything to help themselves. I’ve a very good friend whose sister I know pretty well and she is barely one step away from homeless and the only reason she’s not is because her family manages to catch her fall over and over again for more than 25 years and every time she finds herself in self created difficulty she screams at THEM that “It’s NOT MY FAULT!!!” Yet it is ... she insists on living in the SouthWest when they all live in the NorthEast but what she REALLY wants is for them to find/rent/buy her a place in Florida so she can continue to live in HER OWN WAY ... her entire family is retired but she feels they’ve been holding out on her as she simply “loses” money ... “loses” her medications ... “forgets” to pay bills, rent ... I think they should put her in a “home” but she’s too aggressively unstable for any type “Living Center” as they are quickly running out of the ability to support her ... She “wants help” ... but she wants someone who will take care of all her problems automatically and STAY THE F-CK OUT of her Life ...
