They are NOT “Hospitals” (underwritten by Government) they are NOT “Clinics” supported by Hospitals (underwritten by by Government). Urgent Care takes debit, cash, insurance, Medicaid, Medicare BUT they are NOT Government Funded. If they HAD been crazy enough to try, they STILL wouldn’t have had the apparatus necessary to help. They haven’t any way to isolate the patient, they are typically staffed by Physician Assistants and Nurses and sometimes, rarely, a wet behind the ears doctor. Worse, if people got the idea that they could simply show up at one of those places for help ... then what? The truth is, even if the client had the means to pay, they STILL couldn’t have done much. For that type of thing, Ambulances are actually better equipped and THEY weren’t able to help the person. The way the Mayor made it sound is that they are heartless people but ... Further, none of the accounts offer “proof” that the people were fully “cured” to begin with. That there might be someone who was “reinfected” does not prove this is a typical situation. There is a small subset of people who get “reinfected” in most cases of diseases that seem to confer some level of “immunity” on someone who has “recovered” ... it might be as similar to that person having a problem in their Plasmid System.

@Serg97 While I don’t know when TP was created a quick search found the piece below ... I know as a kid at my Grandparent’s lake cottage, strips of newspaper was offered stuck on a hook. Basically, it was invented in 1857 but failed, became commercially available in 1867 ... “Joseph C. Gayetty created the first commercially packaged toilet paper in 1857. His toilet papers were loose, flat, sheets of paper. Joseph founded The Gayetty Firm for toilet paper production in New Jersey and his first factory-made toilet paper was "The Therapeutic Paper”. This first toilet paper in flat sheets was medicated with aloe. Gayetty named it “Gayetty’s Medicated Paper.” Joseph Gayetty printed his name on every sheet. Unfortunately, this invention failed. Thomas Seymour, Edward Irvin and Clarence Wood Scott began selling some kind of toilet paper in Philadelphia in 1867. In 1879, Scott brothers founded the Scott Paper Company. The Scott Paper Company's toilet paper was the first toilet paper sold in rolls. In 1890 the Scott Paper Company made its Waldorf brand toilet paper in rolls. In 1871, Zeth Wheeler patents rolled and perforated toilet paper. In 1877 he founded the Albany Perforated Wrapping Paper Company. In 1897, company began selling and marketing standard perforated toilet paper on a roll.”

@Haraldson These are all pretty good sources but be careful. NEJM is a good source though sometimes the details obscure the basic information. Nature can be okay but you have to be careful they tend to exhibit a bias and are relying on information from others. Pubmed ... that’s a very tricky source ... the writers of the articles are almost always grant oriented researchers who lean whichever way the grant leans. As noted in one or more of those pieces, there seems to be a close genetic tie to the Bat Coronavirus but ... they’re not sure about an intermediary (ie. Actual Carrier/Transmitter). Could it have originated in bats? Maybe. Keep in mind that “genetic similarity” actually means little since the “genetic similarity” between humans and earthworms isn’t all that preposterous ... its simply a few molecular differences. As humans, we actually had a bit of a run with fatalities caused by the Swine Flu recently. A prime source and reason for our resistance to viruses (over the “Columbian Exchange” Indians for instance) is our continued cohabitation with, and proximity to several animal species. Most Chinese Livestock is in much closer proximity and lacking “proper oversight” than here in the “Western World”. When you combine millions of pigs and millions of people, the potential for a mutative crossover increases exponentially and seems more likely ... still, it could have come to pigs through bats I suppose. My main point was that the Chinese Government can hardly simply tell their people that the problem is chickens & or pigs and expect to survive unscathed. The other problem is that once all those chickens and pigs were “eliminated” what did they do with the carcasses? Who says all the tainted meat was disposed of and NONE found its way onto the table? It was less than a couple months ago that they were finding thousands of sick pigs in the markets and having to reroute them for extermination. Keep in mind that almost all information a available is either directly from, or based upon, the Chinese Communist Party (Government) Here’s an odd, short article that might provide some insight as to the Chinese mindset ... https://www.scmp.com/news/china/society/article/3074896/wuhan-sacks-officials-after-pork-deliveries-are-tipped-street?utm_medium=email=mailchimp=enlz-scmp_international=20200312=7c5b5db677=871367aef7=3775521f5f542047246d9c827&tc=21

Bay0Wulf replies on Mar 12, 2020:
@Haraldson I look at what Vox presented from my own close studies of microbiology in terms of bacterias and viruses ... how they act, how they move, their ability to mutate. I also look at it through my understanding of Chinese Culture and farming practices in general. I couple this with recent and current historical events in the Chinese livestock arena. The coronavirus is nothing new ... not even close to “new”. It simply only rarely makes the interspecies transit to homo sapiens. For some 20 plus years but, more specifically, in the past 10, the Chinese have been suffering dreadful losses in their livestock (pigs and chickens) due to the Avian and Swine Flues which are devastating to the animals but remained largely confined to those animals. The Chinese have had to eliminate millions of these animals ... hundreds of millions ... because of corona viruses while they simultaneously rely on them as a relatively new, government promoted, important food source. I could go into this in much more depth and from several different angles but ... I haven’t had coffee yet. I think ... have reason to believe ... that the Chinese Government ... would much rather point at a relatively small, relatively insignificant source such as a “wet market” than to allow one of their recent, major food stocks to fall under suspicion. Its easier for the government to say, and the people to think, that its bats, pangolin ... the “wet market” (in which chickens and pigs play a part) is the likely culprit than to have some 1.4 Billion people turn away from two of their main protein sources.

@TimTuolomne Actually ... when I was in 5th grade in Massachusetts I was taking a class, “Civics and Government” being taught by a serious Leftist teacher. This was just before the Nixon & McGovern election. This teacher was seriously anti-Government and anti-Constitution ... in Massachusetts ... where we were taught EVERYTHING pertaining to the Revolutionary War. Worse, in third grade I had discovered the Library ... the Reference Section ... and carried two well worn Library Cards. I was also, oddly enough, friends with a bunch of “old guys” (turns out they were College Professors and other Professionals ... before “Liberal” was a thing) with whom I had long, in depth discussions about lots of things ... history among them. Weird. I was a kid but I held up my end of the conversations. My Mom frequently had to come down to the tavern to drag me home. That teacher and I got into long, pointed arguments in the classroom as I pointed out that he LIED ... he told UNTRUTHS (and backed up my responses with quotes and paraphrases with attributions) ... One day I infuriated him so badly that he “punished” me by assigning me the chore of writing “Antidisestablismentarianism” 500 times. The next day I chucked the papers on his desk. Assignment complete. The last page, I included the definition and the fact that he was right, I did ascribe to that thought process. Also, in one inch letters I pointed out that HE Was STILL Subversive COMMUNIST SCUM. That was 5th Grade. I was 11. That was then. I lived in the ONLY State that voted for that trash McGovern ... including my parents ... I was so embarrassed. The “Establishment” THEN is 180 degrees from what the “Establishment” NOW is. I watched the change ... I lived the change ... I actually know what I speak of. You write well and most of what I see you espouse I tend to agree with but ... you make a grave error and do yourself a disservice in trying to chide a person that you know nothing about as to the extent of their knowledge or ability to discern “Reality”. FYI ... I GED’d out of High School with extremely high grades because we had moved to New Jersey and THESE “Teachers” were worse trash than most of the ones in Massachusetts. So ... I am largely self taught ... I am extremely well read ... I’ve taken several MOOCs ... I own dozens of Collegiate Grade Texts and Several College Courses on DVD ... the knowledge I acquire and extrapolate from these sources is interesting and valuable but I have become disappointed and discouraged as over the years, the outright bias of the “teachers” and “professors” becomes ever more apparent.

Bay0Wulf replies on Mar 9, 2020:
@Naomi Yes, I read that part. I believe it ... partly ... but that seems more retrospective than the way they saw it at the time. Few of the early accounts reflected that or ... perhaps they were edited out since the accounts that I was reading were not much more than 10 or 12 years afterwards. Many vets of wars that were front line participants honestly “hated” what they were doing but understood the necessity which sometimes eased the pain ... the unease. Most people “on the ground” hate the fear most. Men especially are brought up to stand up to fear, to fight it down, but the daily struggle to stay alive in combat makes that almost impossible. You have to do things you weren’t brought up to do ... you were, in fact, brought up NOT to do ... you have to find a way to “dehumanize” your opponent. The more you can dehumanize them the more likely you can pull the trigger when needed. Its hard for anyone to understand how a young man ... a kid ... fresh out of high school ... can find it in themselves to function under the extreme mental, emotional and physical duress of combat without suffering some sort of damage. This is true of a volunteer as well as one who is conscripted. That’s one of the reasons I find it horrifying that the US Military has/is softening “boot camp” ... boot camp is the place where you are being given the most basic tools required to survive ... to endure the fear ... to be able to do your job of killing someone while they in turn are trying to kill you.

Correct. In the USA a favorite tactic of the Left is to call all migrants “immigrants” without regard to legal status thus having a problem with Illegal Immigrants becomes a problem with All Types of Immigrant. In this case, there maybe some legitimate “refugees” but even they, I believe, are a “created” crisis ... they might feel that they are refugees but I think their “governments” and maybe “religious leaders” are creating them deliberately. @purdyday Oh ... okay ... “sterilization” through administration of hormone blockers in pursuit of the “trans” nonsense ... I simply wasn’t catching the context of your usage. As to having experiences in living in places that are “Less Free” ... doing so puts an ability to see the contrast ... and to see just how easily it can change ... how fragile a thing is Liberty, Justice and Freedom Most people I have found have a skewed sense of reality. Whatever they grew up with, are living in, is simply the “way things are and have always been” EVERYWHERE ... this specifically applies to those places where “Life is Fine and Living is Easy”. Talking these people out of that perception is actually difficult since they simply refuse to believe you or any evidence to the contrary ... EXCEPT ... the “Better” Their lives ARE ... the more likely they are to believe that there’s something “Even Better” just around the corner ... Thankfully, in the USA, the election of Obama (one of the BEST Things that could have happened because he simply wasn’t “good enough” at pushing forward the “Agenda” but he EXPOSED it) was basically a kick in the crotch to the Quiet Conservatives ... a Sudden Call to Arms ... @purdyday I am completely in agreement with your statement of “wars being waged against freedom loving people”. This has been going on a long time but simply wasn’t obvious to people who didn’t go looking. In the USA, it seemed that with the election of Obama, it finally came out of the shadows and into the light. It finally became obvious. It also suddenly found itself a target. People around the World seem to suddenly realize the “War” they’re in and are reacting. (Awfully late and with a great deal of fumbling about) Conservative or (in the USA) “Supporters of Freedom and Liberty” are punching back. It remains to be seen what the result will be. The coronavirus ... CoVid 19 ... I said from day one that I believe it is a “Weaponized Virus” and speculated on whether it “escaped” or was “released” (by “accident” ). The “sterilization” thing? Just recall that the UN ... and several other “entities” have been saying right along that there are some 40% and more too many people. That some 3+ BILLION People need to be somehow “eliminated”.

Yeah ... I like to see what issues others are looking at ... their general “take” on things. Since people are so varied in their interests, there are lots of different topics and I know a lot about a lot and there’s always more that can be learned. Most times things are brought up that indicate that maybe my information on a given topic is getting “dated” and I go off to check on my thought process. Of course, in terms of Government or Social aspects that’s always a moving target and needs to be revised continually. Thats why when people “stack” posts its annoying to me ... especially if they do it without making any comment (there are a few people who do this A LOT and there’s getting to be more) ... if people post things I think it should be accompanied by something to indicate why its of interest to them ... why it should be of interest to us ... If its simply a meme or joke, its obvious but to post a ton of stuff without any rhyme or reason is simply a smoke screen and hides several other people’s posts in the process. Some of the stuff might really be of interest but I find that when I follow the link, read the article, its a “nothing” post ... which is a waste of everybody’s time and acts to “kill” the conversation ... discussion.

@EAL_Flt1979 First off posting dozens of posts is unnecessary and more than slightly rude. I’m looking to Admin to address this ... it would simply be nice ... respectful ... if people took it into consideration themselves. Secondly your assumption of my status in the last paragraph is incorrect. Starting at 15 I did extensive amounts of hitching nationwide ... not knowing where I would next eat or sleep ... as an adult I spent a winter “in the streets” in one of the Big Northeastern Cities as well (I had a job but no home) ... oddly enough, I was a Wheelchair Bound Locksmith ... Don’t assume that other’s lives are pleasant because you tend toward misery and, apparently, self pity.
