My Chinese girlfriend of that time (Red Chinese National Escapee / Refugee ... new US Citizen) didn’t believe that the CCCP would hold off at all. She and all her friends were very surprised but have remained skeptical ever since. Honestly I think that, given all the rest of the Expansionist things China is doing, this is no surprise. I would not be surprised to see a similar pretext cooked up for Taiwan relatively soon. I think China Left it alone for trade purposes but now, have decided they can “handle” trade themselves ... but more ... I think the CCCP has decided that maybe Hong Kong will somehow seek actual independence and, given the current “World” mentality ... find that they have a lot of support. I think it’s likely that this is a pre-emptive strike ... to get it “out of the way” soon to be followed by Singapore and perhaps Macau ... so they can more fully concentrate on “taking over” what they’ve decided is “Their” China Sea.

I think that you focused too closely on the Faith/Religious/Spiritual aspect of the piece (“sin” ) Perhaps you have a bias against “Faith/Religion ”? Being of no recognized “Faith” myself ... though not Atheist or Agnostic ... I can maybe understand that. Having close relatives of the homosexual persuasion myself ... I can understand your “support” of that lifestyle. However, while “Faith” was mentioned briefly, much more time was spent on the question from the point of view of the “Reality of Life” ... the “Continuation of the Species” ... the “Genetic Continuation” of a viable ... perhaps valuable ... bloodline. In this aspect of the conversation homosexuality, in any form, simply has no place. The natural distain towards homosexual behavior is real, is engrained. Homosexuality is an actual threat to Our Continued Existence as a species. Personally, as long as they don’t try to “involve” me, consenting adults are welcome to whatever behavior they are interested in ... though I see that problematically when these “adults” have a family ... have children ... have Obligations they committed themselves to. On the other hand, as individuals they have all the Rights afforded by the Constitution and Bill of Rights as I do and the whole thought process of requiring “Special Rights” is abhorrent ... is Bullsh*t. But even this is not what the article was about ... The article was about how the Left (not simply the Left but ANY “Authoritarian” group) uses Our Words, Our Morals, Our Thoughts, Our Feelings AGAINST US in order to further THEIR CYNICAL Agenda. Agreed ... at this time.q We are stuck on a point where we have a need for properly trained Citizens to fill these jobs but the Training is more expensive than it seems the Job and Job Future is worth. I don’t know if the H1B Workers & Hiring Companies have undercut the Market Price/Value or the Trained Citizen Personnel / Schools are overselling expected income. It seems the H1B Worker accepts $70k but the US Citizen expects $120k or more. Maybe IT is the “new” Blue Collar Job ... with some exceptions? I mean ... maybe the people who “design” and “create” the IT “Systems” are the upper echelon and deserve higher numbers but the people who then simply “maintain” them should expect to make a good, decent wage but not the higher numbers? However, if this is true, perhaps the Colleges or maybe Tech Schools should be broken down into “levels” of Price and Education reflecting this?

Any idea how the H-1B Workers (primarily Indian or Asian) finance their schooling/college/training? Is it possible that New Citizen Graduates are actually pricing themselves out of the market? Is it possible that the “training” required is overpriced?

There’s too much truth to your last sentence. We’re caught in a conundrum. We want/need more High Tech Citizens but We chop them off at the knees by letting companies Import or Bring In a Cheaper Labor force which leaves the Citizen with Massive School Debt and Few Available Jobs. Essentially Our Jobs are being “Outsourced” right in Our Own Communities.

In a “National Health Care System” what ... where ... is the incentive to do transplants? Transplants, the care required before, the procedure and the care required after, are all “expensive” in time and assets. Not to mention the item itself. Why would a Medical Professional who has been reduced to being “working stiff” want to be bothered doing this ... remember, part of an NHS basically removes all incentive, outside of personal interest, from the Medical Profession to perform “above and beyond” ... to undertake difficult challenges ... People seem think that a National Health Care System is going to continue to attract Altruistic People with the Incredible Skill that the Medical Profession does now... which I find odd. Can anyone show me ANY “Nationalized System” where Top End Professionals line up to join? Where ANYONE is actually incentivized to Excel? @SpikeTalon I’m not sure. The Four group choice is a compromise they made several months ago when I griped about it. Because “joining” even a single group locked you in... “The code was adding IDW groups in the main feed by default if had 0 groups... I'll update it to be if you have less than 4 groups.” What I know is that regardless where I converse/post it shows up if there is an answer or reaction in my “message feed” so, like this conversation, I have “Joined” and “Unjoined” something like 6 times today. I can’t offer any insight on the “Follow” function (people, posts or groups) because I have never used it. I find almost everything of interest pops up in my “Landing Page” as long as I limit myself to 3 Groups regardless of what Group they’re originally posted in. I simply click on the post, get taken to it and it’s responses, and if I wish to comment, I “join” put my comment and then “Leave”.

@SpikeTalon No ... what I mean is that, the way IDW works, as long as you remained “Joined” to 3 or less “Groups” you remain “unassigned” and receive post notifications from All Existing Groups ... or so Admin told me ... once you “join” that 4th “Group”, you, from that time forward, will only receive posts from those “Groups” you’re a Member of ... that you’ve “Joined” ... Whether you’ve joined only 4 or 14 ... those are the sources of all the posts you see ... I “choose” to remain unassigned by limiting my personal “joins” to 3 ... so I can see a wider array of posts from every group. In this particular case, in order to post here, I’ve “joined” making this group #4 but, as soon as I finish this post, I will click the “Leave” button and “Unjoin” and return my status to 3 Groups ... to unassigned... I don’t particularly like this system but I accept its limitations ... I simply use the rules in an unorthodox manner ... (which, in my life, is not actually unusual).

I understand your disgust ... distain ... horror ... But, unfortunately there’s wishful thinking and reality and most of those “Better Practices” are wishful thinking. Even Big Ag lives on a very small profit margin where those “practices” slice away at it. Even the small farmer ... or even more so ... is stuck with maximizing their production. They simply can’t afford to follow those “wishful” ideas ... much as many would honestly like to. Then there’s the actual Market ... the Demand from the Consumers ... which can ... in no way ... be met by Growers or Farmers who try to stick to those “Wishful” Best ... Humane ... Practices. @Naomi @Naomi I can’t say that I’ve compiled stats on the effectiveness of protests but I have a historical overview of them and their effectiveness seems to depend on several factors. Peacefulness or Violence. Relative Freedom of the Government involved ... or lack of ... Here in the USA a boisterous peaceful protest can have an effect in “expanding awareness” ... which I might not actually appreciate ... some of the recent ones I’d’ve been happy to see the protesters gassed and shot with paintball guns and hauled away ... but I am quick to point out that I am not a “nice guy”. However, whether I agree or disagree with their aims, they seem to have some effectiveness in direct relation to the media attention they garner. In other locations it seems easy to see the effectiveness is mostly determined by how close to Totalitarian the government is ... which seems to explain the lack of response to the yellow vests in France ... which is largely peaceful and therefore easy to ignore. In China there are several protests annually but they go unheard and unseen as the Chinese have full control over the media. As far as I can tell, they are basically peaceful but I suspect that they are treated quite harshly. The protests in Venezuela seem to be gaining quite a bit of traction but I think that is due to the media coverage they’ve been getting and the Active Attention they’ve been receiving from the “World Community” such as the USA and sanctions against the government. The same could be said of the “Apartied” in South Africa which might have gone no-where had not various nations jumped in with (misguided) “Social Awareness” and began to emplace embargoes and sanctions. Violent protests are another situation altogether ... two famous ones were the French Revolution and the Bolshevik Uprising ... which overturned their governments. I think that these days Press and World Attention can have an effect even if the protest is “peaceful” depending on how easily “substantial pressure” can be brought to bear ... but I haven’t noticed it helped the Iranians and I doubt highly that it will help the Chinese

However, forced organ harvesting deserves special attention in the context of the Chinese. In China, this practice is driven by the state. It’s directed at prisoners of conscience to advance policies of genocide. Forced organ harvesting in China is carried out at such scale that it constitutes an industry. Since the early 2000s, Chinese hospitals have been providing live organs on demand. Perfectly matched organs can be obtained in weeks or even days. With an estimation of 60,000 to 100,000 major organ transplant cases per year in China, the availability of organs cannot be accounted for by the number of death-row executions and voluntary organ donations.

@Babou Not that this is particularly part of this discussion but ... that death thing ... It’s funny perhaps, but since the 50’s the average lifespan of the average person in industrialized nations has risen by some 20+ years or about 30%. It’s directly due to being industrialized that this is true because of ease of access to thousands of things including quality food and non-stop electrical power. Power driven overwhelmingly by “fossil fuels” which cannot be even partially replaced by “alternative sources” excepting possibly nuclear. Yet people complain and point to several of these things, especially “fossil fuels” and some foodstuffs as being the reason for ... and behind ... death. Isn’t this a strange dichotomy? Without “fossil fuels” the likelihood of surviving into your mid 60s is/was pretty doubtful but now, if people die in their 70s or 80s well, it’s maybe the “fossil fuels” that killed you ... ? Trump, Bernie, Biden, Pelosi and ... are all in their 70s and ... arguably ... still even “productive”. People are “going back to work” or finding they “have to go back to work” in their mid-60s ... and many complain about this without even considering the fact that, by all rights, just a few decades ago, they should have been ... dead. Both of my grandmothers died at 99 and my maternal grandfather died at 110 and each time the Doctors requested of my Largely Medically Oriented Family the chance to perform an autopsy. When asked why, they replied that they wanted to know “why” they died. They wanted to come up with a “statistic” they could write down (another one of those stats saying well, it was due to ... probably something having to do with industrialization...). Uniformly they were denied because the familial response was; “Oh, for cripe sake ... they WORE Out!” Like this question about “science” ... why people die is an ever changing answer ... theory ... and oddly it seems like this one comes down to, they live because of industrialization which, in the end, killed them ... or maybe it’s your DNA or Genes Degrading ... or maybe ... Today, they posit a bunch of statistics and one of the biggest one is respiratory failure which is attributable to ... “fossil fuels”? Isn’t that a bit like saying that the Chicken died because ... well ... EGGS?

I can’t say I am. Sometimes I wonder what my life would’ve been like if ... but there’s always an “if” ... there’s always the path ... or several ... unchosen. I can’t offer insight on what might make a “good” counselor because I never met one that I considered to be “good” ... which is odd since I’ve always had people who sort of use me as one which I don’t mind but still find it odd. As far as “totally happy” is concerned ... I’m not sure that I could be that ... or would even desire that ... I like problems ... difficulties ... something to solve, something to overcome. Had the accident not occurred, I’m sure my life would be different but I’m not sure about “better”. As it is, I have pretty much everything I need, most of what I want. A long time ago on Bleeker St. in NYC ... before the accident ... one bright sunny day a cable network (cable was brand new) was doing a thing ... putting together a show. I was “wandering” down the sidewalk and a mic got stuck in my face and a gal asked; “If you could have ANYTHING at all, what would it be?” I don’t recall even hesitating before I replied; “Nothing.” The video guy almost dropped the camera and the look on her face was ... well, maybe you an imagine ... She said; “Nothing ...?” I answered, as long as I have my health and I have my mind, everything I want I’ll get when I want it.” With that I walked away. I guess I would prefer the accident didn’t happen. The damage to my ankles makes it impossible to go backpacking ... or use SCUBA Flippers ... but otherwise, I suppose the answer remains the same. @chuckpo You may be seeing things like others can't. You could also be self-indulgent or gravely wrong or even crazy. That's something to be grappled with. How do you know? How do any of us know? I think I see many things that others don’t ... simply because of the diversity and accessibility of my knowledge database ... information can be mated with other information that may not seem complimentary but when moved into the right positions, the parts “fit”. For instance, though it drives people nuts, I relate many things to plumbing. I know they’re different but ... they’re the same as well ... I’m a pretty good plumber to me it’s simple and easy and I’ve done a lot of it ... to me the circulatory system is basic plumbing ... electricity is basic plumbing ... electronics (I trained in Advanced for Submarines) is basic plumbing ... computer electronics and logic is basic plumbing ... it all involves the “flow” of some “thing” from one place to another through a series of controls ... obviously all the components are different and the “thing” is different but the action/result is similar ... I drove a top neurologist nuts because while he was explaining my nerve damage, I was repeating it as simple electronics (which honestly is all the nervous system is) Could I be “wrong”? Yes. Of course. I think I avoid this by breaking everything, regardless how complex, Down to simple basic units of previously known constants and “build the image” up from there. By making sure I have a solid foundation, I can usually be sure that the final construct is either correct or, easily tweaked if in error. Could I be “Crazy”? That’s interesting ... I tell people I’m “crazy” all the time ... not as in demented but as in “seeing” things from completely “Un-normal” points and perspectives of “view”. Do I believe I’m “insane”? Yes-No-Maybe ... what’s your definition of “sane”? If it’s to be the way 99.9% of the current society chooses to be, then I am definitely UN-Sane Who’s to Say? Define crazy. More importantly prove to me that your definition of the term is in any way valid. Honestly, I simply don’t GAF what other people might think ... or even what they might think they know. I require proof. A term like crazy is pretty esoteric and therefore eludes a simple definition.

I requested a therapist of the insurance company and was denied. Thankfully I owned a truly massive library of books I had bought but hadn’t had time to read. A few more surgeries later, I got to where I could walk ... sort of ... and had forced alternate nerves to drive my hand ... I’ve only moved straightline forward from there ... now, for fun and a workout, I enjoy spending days in the woods running a professional grade chainsaw and muscling 400+ pound tree lengths into the bad of my truck.

@chuckpo Mostly it was the school or guidance counselor that decided I had to go ... and often decided who ... though my folks later chose some higher end types. Honestly I wasn’t interested in being “shrunk” not at 10 and by the time it might’ve made a difference I had major trust issues (of course, most of these “buzzwords” didn’t exist then). The schools and my folks were frustrated because I blew any test I took ... that I actually participated in ... out of the water. School at every level was boring ... what do you do when a kid tells you that school is boring? Maybe they should’ve asked me what I meant ... maybe I should’ve realized that “boring” wasn’t actually a useful answer ... I decided that teachers mostly were stupid ... it seemed they really didn’t know the material ... or worse, they were lying. I got introduced to a school “library” when I was 5 ... it was boring (elementary school library) but I walked to school and walked past a town library every day so I went in and talked myself into a library card ... the librarian thought it was “cute” ... meanwhile I was stopping off at a local bar and “talking to the guys” on a regular basis ... not really talking at first, just listening to what they talked about and then going to the library to read up on the stuff they’d been talking about ... the librarian thought it strange that I spent all my time in the reference section. By the time I was 10 I was actively getting into disputes with my teachers over the ... nonsense ... they were “teaching”. Things never really got much better ... in the 9th grade I walked out of a Latin class, hitch-hiked to Boston and began skipping school by hanging out in the Library, Museums and sitting in on college courses ... when I could get in the door ... for 3 months solid ... While I’m sure things could have gone better, I’m not unhappy with how things turned out. I’m not sure any “therapist” would’ve made any real difference. Sometimes I wonder if things would’ve been ... better ... if I had been a bit more “normal” but that was never really an option. I’ve pissed people off all my life by being an apparent “know it all” but what REALLY pisses them off is that I never enter into a conversation about something I’m not sure of and whenever they “check” my facts ... I actually Do Know what i’m Talking about and ... I know dozens of topics ... there’s really no forgiving that... And with that I’m done with this conversation ... actually I don’t know why I went with it this long already ... or a couple responses ago ...

The “Pack” will often join in ... and sometimes quite happily ... on whatever “adventure” an Alpha (or their Alpha) comes up with but a Member of the Pack very rarely strays from the beaten path for any reason outside of Following an Alpha ... they might enjoy canoeing, rafting, backpacking, ski trips ... but they NEVER propose them ... while they will Eagerly “Join” them ... but it’s the “Group” effort Following an Alpha. Outsiders (Loners?) simply “Do” stuff that interests and excites them because it’s not a “Project” to pick up a backpack or waterproof duffle or skiis and simply go ...

@chuckpo Oh ... and that’s a conversation that takes more than a few beers. A week long canoe trip maybe ... if there’s a lot of slack water paddling. It takes a long time to unpack it and provide context ... and provide time for the thoughts to “settle in” before going onto the next one(s) Yeah ... competence ... I’ve no patience (or understanding) at all for a lack of competence ... unless it’s agreed that we’re embarqued on something completely unknown and we’re simply making it up as we go ... (which I personally consider “fun” )

@chuckpo Uncomfortable? No. Not really. Lacking in the “Comfort” of having some sort of “Group Support” maybe. When you “stumble” or “slip” there’s no-one to fall back on, no support. You have to be willing and able to get yourself out of that hole ... ditch ... My biggest problem was I started several businesses ... guaranteed not to fail businesses ... that failed anyway. I could “get” employees ... I could show them what to do and how ... I could get them interested and “excited” ... but I simply lack the ability to “Lead” them ... I set them up to do a job and then leave them to do it ... I have many other things to do ... and they wind up drifting around like a sailboat that has great wind but lost its rudder ... a lot of motion but no direction, no results. I’ve always needed a reliable Alpha for them but Alphas and I don’t “get along” because I’m too “strong” myself. I can easily and happily work “with” an Alpha ... but Alphas ... NEED to be Alphas and tgat means they don’t actually Like being worked “with”. That “lesson” was painful ... was uncomfortable ... it was a Wall I ran into repeatedly and took a long time to understand what the damn wall was ... not to mention expensive. The only place I was able to be relatively successful was in contractual trades because I only hired pros and simply orchestrated the work but ... that meant the salaries were brutal and it’s hard to keep a crew like that busy job after job ... especially when others are trying to hire them away ... so, it was relatively successful but also short lived. At least it was profitable while it lasted ...

The only thing I disagree with is the Trump administration should have used the term "probationary" with regards to recinding the 5% tarrifs. If (or when} México violates the agreements then the tarrifs should be imposed immediately The Mexican government's *allowing* the Caravans to pass ...

Climate Change is probably a correct name for what is going, since the weather guys and gals can not tell you with any certainty if it will rain tomorrow, because of Climate (weather) changes. 50%!?! Only 50%? I dunno ... I think their batting average is worse than that. These days I prefer weather.com and I can read the maps for myself. Maybe “Weathermen” are Politicians in Training? 100% Government Health Care. What does it mean for you?
Halligan comments on Jun 7, 2019:
I am seriously concerned and worried that the US will continue down this road. I think that voters who say they support this type of health care don't realize what will be involved and its consequences.
Bay0Wulf replies on Jun 7, 2019:
@Halligan Don’t get me wrong ... I’m not trying to say that PAs and NPs don’t have a useful and valuable place or, that they’re “untrained” but they are being used to replace Doctors and Nurses who are better trained with a lot more experience dealing with many more situations that only comes from years in the field. I don’t mind if either of them throws me a few stitches or checks and cares for a corneal scratch or ... I don’t however have any real confidence in them as Diagnosticians or handling the various aspects of Neuropathies found especially among the Aged or Long Term Infirm or several other specific “Disciplines” that Doctors deal with routinely. It’s not a “knock” on them but they simply aren’t as well equipped with the Tools or Knowledge that a Doctor has and I’ve seen many cases of Poor Diagnosis end up with patients who wind up getting worse, becoming untreatable or dead because of it. This is simply the beginning of the problem. If we are truly forced into Single Payer, I expect things to get much worse. There are many ways to streamline the Health Industry ... I wrote a 5 page system out for ... but Single Payer in the Medical Profession is considered barely better than Self Payer ... the Professionals know that THEY are going to get screwed in the end...
