Why is it bad? My brother plays games with a computer in the cloud. He pays $100 down for a device, then $25 a month. He claims it's great and way better gaming experience than his fast i7 gaming computer. I don't know.
Bay0Wulf replies on Dec 31, 2019:
Well ... yeah ... okay. If all you’re doing is “gaming” or “watching stuff” it’s great!!! Usually gamers have very little personal information or data to speak of that’s of interest to someone who exploits this stuff. I mean, what good does it do to know that “drptree’s brother” has 5 spell casting scrolls, 2 special weapons, 6 bottles of Life Elixor in his favorite warrior’s backpack? On the other hand, knowing that Jane Dough has some $318,426.32 in her IRA with Anytown Bank (and both of them and their passwords are ‘in the cloud’ ) might be kind of interesting. Oh ... you didn’t know your password is “in the Cloud”? How do you think your bank recognizes that you screwed up when you put the wrong one in?

I wasn’t “pro” or “con” I figured if they were adults then whatever tripped their trigger was ... not my business particularly. However, there were several times where I had to offer to kick the shit out of them to get them to leave off. Thankfully, I have always been physically fit and obviously strong enough to back up my offer. Transvestites (TVs) were simply considered comical ... an oddity ... However, homosexuals or TVs NEVER tried to pass themselves off as a woman ... well, maybe an occasional TV might for whatever reason but that usually resulted in seriously negative results ... and I doubt there was any “gender confusion” involved in their thought process ... Now, “Trans” (gender) people seem to think they should be able to coerce straights to accept them as reasonable “dating” material ... they seem to think that they should be able to force someone in the court system to accept them for what they “feel” they are ... Dating is generally about Mating ... Marriage is generally about Children ... The concept that someone should feel “offended” by a lack of interest in becoming entangled in a sterile, unfulfilling relationship is ... odd. Is sad ...

I’ve known 16 year olds who were fully functional “women” at 16 ... with a level of common sense and maturity of an adult (mostly women though ... not boys) ... and I’ve known 30-somethings who aren’t mentally even in puberty yet. A lot seems to be dependent on their upbringing. Factually, scientifically, 16 is, on average, the “prime age” for women in physical terms of having children, in terms of fertility, in terms of being able to carry to term in bear a child ... that’s what evolution has decreed ... whether it’s best mentally/emotionally is another question and I think it’s dependent on the person’s upbringing.

I see “awarding” ANY territory to an out and out invader as a “reward” for heinous behavior. Several writings by Muslims dating back to the 1100’s glowingly depict the slaughter (males) and enslavement (Women) of entire towns ... glowingly depict the mass murder of “Hundreds of Thousands” put to the sword, burned alive and other more extreme methods of execution. Rewarding Muslims / Islam for this is beyond my ability to comprehend.

Well, I was writing a very long and detailed answer and the page “refreshed” and it all went away. So, #3. I do, in fact, have many friends who I refer to by their Ethnicity or Race when establishing their probable level of knowledge of a topic or, at least their likely interest in it. In the late 70s and early 80s I lived in the Caribbean and developed many good relationships with the Local Blacks as well as with a strident, almost militant collection of Rastafari. We engaged in several conversations/arguments about what was happening in Africa which necessitated a great deal of open minded study on the subject. My White Friends ... my Chinese (mostly escaped from Red China) Friends ... my Spanish/Hispanic/Latino Friends were relatively uninterested. I mention my “Black Friends” so that people understand that I am speaking of a group of people who are likely to have some knowledge or at least interest in the topic ... I don’t want people to think I was discussing this with a bunch of White Guys over a couple beers ...) #2. In the mid 1970’s when I began to look at the problems in Africa, Rhodesia was Rhodesia. I have found over the years that there is so little interest in Africa in general and Rhodesia/Zimbabwe specifically that, in order to get the best response it is better to use both names. Few people I know (white or black) could point it out on a map ... especially before South Africa became an issue and personally, I think the only reason many of them can point out South Africa is the name is a pretty big clue. 1. Mugabe and ZANU-PF ... its really hard, and indicative of a lack of honest thought, to lay all the problems at their feet. Yes, they were responsible for a lot of what occurred. The Brits (British Establishment) were responsible for many of the outlooks and attitudes of the local populace before the handing over. The various militia ... militant factions ... were responsible for much of what has happened. Mugabe and the ZANU-PF were essentially “the Government” so I suppose it’s natural to blame them. The White Farmers began to flee the country almost from the beginning of the hand over as they began to experience ever more racially driven hostility, anger and hatred from the various factions. However, the Government legitimized the situation when they passed laws confiscating the lands and expelling more than half of the White Farmers in the early 2000’s ... Laws specifically aimed at “White” Farmers (the Law was not about “farmers” of whatever race). While these farms most usually found their way into the hands of Government Stooges and Cronies, the general populace was of the mind that this action was “good and just”. You can blame Mugabe and there is some good reason for doing so but it is ...

"Reality?" Try doing some actual researdh into the history of Southern Africa, pre and post colonial, it might take a bit of effort but at least you might be able to offer an informed opinion rather than spouting some half baked response to a BBC trope.
Bay0Wulf replies on Nov 30, 2019:
Actually I know a quite a lot about South Africa and it’s “known” history. As to it’s history “pre-colonial”, there's not a whole lot of actual fact to be known although there is a lot that was carried in oral tradition. Obviously there’s much more history available “post colonial” though that tends to be records of the Europeans. There are many similarities to the arrival and results of the Europeans’ arrival on the east coast of the Americas. However, that said, little of that information has any bearing on the situation that exists today. The population growth, density and lifestyle patterns bear almost no relation to that time period. The expectations of the population similarly bear almost no relation to that time period as well. Do you mean to infer that the Europeans did horrible things? They did ... nothing that wasn’t typical for the time ... but horrible when seen through the eyes of someone of today. The “indigenous” people similarly did horrible things ... mostly to themselves. It is due to the European “culture” ... way of doing business ... way of farming specifically ... that allowed the land to achieve a much greater “carrying capacity”. As in ALL similar situations, the population (primarily indigenous) grew to meet that increased carrying capacity. The world that was ... the lifestyle that was ... is past. It is extremely doubtful it shall ever return unless, of course, South Africa’s population falls back to the levels the land could sustain ... carry ... in pre-colonial times. I don’t think that South Africa (and I don’t mean simply that country) is doomed to fail ... that it cannot support its population ... but, in order to do so, they are going to have to apply themselves to maintaining the agricultural system that was established by Europeans. So far, indigenous “Africans” have shown little desire and less aptitude in doing so. This is unfortunate. In a land ... literally capable of “milk and honey” ... starvation and deprivation is due to extract a horrendous toll where it is so totally unnecessary.

Good questions especially if you haven’t been watching this for years ... decades ... Currently a major portion of the World is experiencing a “Global” recession. I believe this is primarily due to a few important factors ... the top three are ... #1- The ongoing turn towards socialism by much of the world populace who simply don’t understand what they’re asking for. Free Stuff sounds great but it isn’t “Free” but the price/cost can be obscured ... for awhile. #2- The ongoing desire to participate in Consumerism (ie. Capitalism) as people worldwide begin to see how much “Stuff” is out there to “want”. Of course, when you’re reaching towards Socialism, that’s in direct conflict with Capitalism (China is a good example ... they let “limited capitalism” in and now they’re experiencing problems making their people toe the Communism line) #3- The willingness of most countries and people to allow China to provide much of their “consumer” goods ... as well as a veneer of what seems like the rewards of Capitalism to countries on an “order now, pay later, basis. Much of the pain of recession felt by the “people” of the world is going to be simply a “loss of stuff” ... stuff, that not so long ago they didn’t even know existed ... they didn’t know they “needed” ... China is playing a desperately dangerous game as far as “the deal” is concerned. They are trying to determine whether Trump will get re-Elected or if the “Deep State” or Democrats will be able to unseat him. It’s not “censorship” to think that if someone feels strongly enough to post a link ... or video ... that there should be a comment describing what they’re posting or, more importantly, what they think ... or even “feel” about the subject. There are several people here now who simply flood the Community Landing Page with posted link after posted link and force many useful conversations so far down the list that others simply don’t get to see them. I wonder if that’s deliberate. I wonder if that’s not a form of “trolling”. I wonder if that’s not a form of “censoring content”.

Bay0Wulf replies on Nov 11, 2019:
@JackHammel, @Naomi Speaking specifically of healthcare ... I don’t recall the exact length of time that a child born in the U.K. has to live before it’s registered as “born”, but I believe it’s at least a few days ... which is the case in many countries. In the USA ... the moment a child slides out of the birth canal, it’s “live”. This creates a rather high incident of “child mortality” in the USA where, in the U.K. and most other nations children who die in the first few ... or several ... days simply aren’t counted. Trying to compare “health care” or “health services” of other countries to the USA is like trying to compare pears to apples. Most nations, including the U.K. would be thrilled to have access to a medical system as bad as the worst version found inside the USA.

Bay0Wulf replies on Nov 3, 2019:
Uh ... I just checked those links you provided ... I thought you were simply pushing the Dewey piece back to me. The one on “Progressive Education” is interesting because it is certainly a revision from what Dewey pushed and ... its certainly not what is being taught today in the USA in the regular Public School System nor has been for decades ... although I have heard many times the phrase used in conjunction with “Education”. Bullet point #1 is mostly missing. Bullet points 3,4,6,9 and important parts of #8 and 13 are all pretty much missing. So, while what somebody put on Wikipedia to describe “Progressive Education” is, reads more like a propaganda piece made to assuage someone’s concerns rather than a definition of what it is, in application it doesn’t do much of what’s in that list. Certainly, “Critical Thinking” is Completely left out ... Alternately, perhaps this is simply a case of the Left/Liberals/Academia taking a completely acceptable term and redefining it to their own use. Similar to their current use of “Progressive” or “Liberal” as a defining term for the Democrat Party. That is, since Democrat, Socialist and, more recently Liberal are becoming most easily defined by the Actions and Results rather than by the talking points and alleged thought process (seriously bent to the Left), they have attempted to label themselves as “Progressives” ... after all, who doesn’t like the concept of “Progress”? Democrats took over “Liberal” as a description for themselves quite awhile ago but, if you look up “Classic Liberalism” you find that they are anything but ... in fact, they are almost a complete contradiction of the Original Concept. Similarly I find that most young people seem to think the concept of “Socialism” to be quite acceptable ... somehow mixing Society and Social Media into the meaning of “Socialism” but, if you strip out the word socialism or socialist and present simply the raw “thought process” and apply it to THEIR lives, they are immediately repulsed. A perfect example of that is the idea that since some students didn’t do the work to get ... or are unable to achieve ... a good grade average, that a “good student” should be willing to “give” some of their “points” to the underachievers so that the “outcome” is more equal ... that idea is met with shock, scorn, incredulity as being completely ridiculous. Note: the problem with using Wikipedia is that, while it is a good “starting place” to begin an inquiry, it is written (and edited) largely by Public Contributors so it can be rather skewed and sometimes inaccurate ... even wildly so. For instance, the piece about Dewey is written rather kindly ... almost glowingly ... almost by a “fan” ...

Bay0Wulf replies on Nov 3, 2019:
Actually I believe that unless “critical thinking” is a major part of the education process, there is no “education”. Long ago (jr. high) I was told by my father ... who was never happy with my grades ... the only thing that school HAD to teach me, the thing I HAD to learn, was HOW to “learn”. Today Today’s kids aren’t being “taught” anything they’re being “propagandized” ... Being “instructed” on how to follow “instructions”

@Naomi My read on the guy is that his “thought pattern” fits really well with the ideas of many of today’s “educators” not to mention that his are many of the designs Our Educational carries on today ... the thought process that many grew up with. Our failures of today is simply the flowering manifestation of the seeds Dewey planted. Most of us here I think are the ones in whom Dewey’s philosophy didn’t take. The ones who ask questions and demand real answers, the ones that are curious enough about what’s going on around us to look. The ones skeptical enough to seek proof. There are actually relatively few enough of us. In the USA I’ve known lots of people from many walks of life and Dewey’s System has created a huge percentage of “punched out” people ... people who might be pretty good at their job but honestly have no desire to seek out information or maybe, knowledge. They’re simply basic drones. Look at Our Political Situation. Almost half the country is willing to tune into the “Daily Propaganda” and act, speak and think as they’re told ... and believe it. What did Dewey want? Social Drones ... Ever notice that most of the people who “crack” ... often violently ... are these drones? Can you imagine the mental insanity of a mind that was “punched out” and realizes it too late to understand how to fix itself?

Bay0Wulf replies on Nov 2, 2019:
Personally, no. Actually, if you delve into what he said, there was too much emphasis on “teaching” and not enough on “socializing” ... his thought was that schools should turn out students who are basically stupid but who could easily integrate into the social structure ... too much “education” was likely to cause discontent and, besides, employers should be required to teach their employees what was needed. So now we have that situation almost fully realized where people come out of a 4 year college and STILL have no knowledge to work with or build on ... and can’t figure out why no-one wants to hire them. Children will learn to deal with society ... or not ... and that’s the way it really always has been. However, to short change a child by failing to teach them “STEM” subjects, leaves them unable to support themselves or take on the more important (meaningful) jobs. “Progressivism” is responsible for the concept that some 70% of Black High School Students are actually illiterate ... after 12 Years of school ... “Progressivism” is responsible for most of the Students in the Entire USA being cheated of several aspects of Education after 12 years of school. “Progressivism” is NOT “Progress” ... even in Dewey’s writings ... it’s actually Regression ... the abandoning of becoming “Educated” enough to have a well founded thought ... the ability to engage in cogent discussions, thoughts or opinions.

You might have noticed that my “loan” thought process isn’t really geared towards “Big Business” unless they’re delving into something of truly immense importance to Our Nation AND the Citizenry. As to the truly needy ... I support reasonable health care for kids, prenatal care for infants to be and continuing care long enough for them to be “established” as children. As to the truly indigent ... poor ... I recall in the 60s (before Democrats realized the power they could get from them) the Local Churches and Communities took on much of the task of helping them. Local assistance makes more sense because they know better what the situation is and, at that time, subtle and not so subtle pressure was brought to bear on those who were able but malingering to “Straighten Up and Fly Right”. Though honestly, in most cases, the simple stigma was sufficient to get people to straighten themselves out. I think that there have been huge strides to “get rid” of the stigma of using food stamps and special assistance methods ... to our detriment.
