The voting by mail you described is not what was done here in 2020, previously tested out in my own CaCaLand in earlier voting. Your description sounds like absentee voting. A necessary process for those who simply cannot vote in person: elderly in nursing home, soldiers overseas, etc. My wife did that since she got tired of showing up at a local poll in the wee hours in Nov. (i.e., she is a bot spoiled). I have to disagree with sentiment. Regulatory and approval authorities would be deluged with requests for review of all manner of things if the requestor did not have to pay in some manner. Think tort trials on most anything. This fee signals that the requestor is serious and really, really needs R&A -- so much so that he is willing to face the ire of stockholders on taking the risk. What is also necessary is a simultaneous "audit/watchdog" to ensure that no other monies pass on to any interested parties. Since our Congress doesn't even have a problem with insider trading the audit part is probably missing. I think it was Reagan who stated : "Trust but verify."

Yah had me up until software programmers, aka coders. Coders make a big deal about being called engineers of some sort. However, engineers are personally and criminally responsible for how their designs turn out. I've known of some who went to prison just for coaching others on how to make your design just look like it meets spec. Coders, on the other hand, take no responsibility. They are basically just writing out an automated procedure. But, if the code is crappola and your PC turned into a brick, "Oops, not my problem". Show me a non-mil-spec program that warrants performance.
