RobBlair comments on Oct 2, 2019:
I didn't see any analysis regarding what needs to be considered for impeachment. As with "Russian Collusion," the actual charge being investigated has not yet been stated. Here's a list regarding what I think people should be considering: - being that we just went through a 3 year investigation of the President which effectively resulted in the president being cleared of all charges, what is different this time? Why are the people who lied to us about the Russian collusion still being given a stage and treated as sources? - could a discussion by our current president, regarding the questionable actions of the previous administration, towards one of our allies, be in our national interest? - what changed that caused Trump to greenlight the loan to Ukraine? - why is the President given the authority to stop a foreign loan that was already OK'd by congress? - if our Federal agencies can spy on an incoming presidential campaign with impunity, leak classified communications, and fail at a coup with tepid interest from the press, who do you think is running this country? While the left is smashing the glass house Obama built, you think GOP is radically changing. Ha.

Trump - And the Democrats don’t care if they burn down and destroy this nation in the process. I have never seen the Evangelical Christians more angry over any issue than this attempt to illegitimately remove this President from office, overturn the 2016 Election, and negate the votes of millions of Evangelicals in the process. They know the only Impeachable offense that President Trump has committed was beating Hillary Clinton in 2016. If they stole the money then they should be held accountable for their actions. No magic blue suit. The municipality should provide appropriate insurance, representation and time for defense preparation. In some cases perhaps the jurisdiction should take the place of the defendant. But, in all cases, illegal behavior should be punished. This ruling is bad for a law abiding system and, if it holds, which it won't, will drive a wedge between us and our employees who protect us. Perhaps Bernie is correct in demanding that the US surrender political capital and require India to recognize Kashmir's independence. But is it truly appropriate to demand action of our ally over their local issues? I didn't know anything about Kashmir until I just looked it up. Now I know next to nothing. Would it not be better to show our ally the advantages we have by respecting our own human rights? To that end I suggest we stop conflating health care with human rights. Health care providers are not our slaves and pretending that their labor should be forced under our direction in order to promote human rights is an absurdity that only a 78 year socialist who lives in a free country could hold.

Trump makes me laugh! "We" here is the royal we. When the Queen says "We are not amused" she's referring to herself and commanding her subjects to agree with her. I like his flavor of narcissism over Obama's. It'd be off putting if I didn't know that there is an entire industry working long hours to try and trash the guy. Remember this one? "The president (me) is doing a great job!" I'm laughing!

If this story was prominently posted on headlines and we had a national "conversation," I am convinced that some ignorant 16 year old in Detroit or Chicago might be saved from repeating this mistake.

RobBlair comments on Sep 18, 2019:
I long for the time when our politicians are meaningless and don't have their phone numbers in businessmens' phones. The slow and steady rise of capitalism is being replaced by this cronyism between government and large companies. The only way to avoid this is to take power away from government. Do not encourage government takeover of facebook, youtube, etc...

Asylum is for political refugees. As we learned from the "Temporary" status that we gave to the Haitians, the repatriating of those that have been relocated is not a well received process. Inviting people to put their lives in flux might be akin to giving an alcoholic a drink so he doesn't feel so bad over the next couple hours. In the long run, they will be developing their lives and relationships in a place they are expected to leave. "We" shouldn't be sending aid. "You" and "I" should be sending aid as we choose. Further, aid sent should avoid creating a moral hazard. https://www.bahamas.com/relief Probably the best thing we could do right now is book a vacation to the Bahamas.

RobBlair comments on Sep 16, 2019:
“Confirmation is not exoneration, and these newest revelations are disturbing. Like the man who appointed him, Kavanaugh should be impeached,” Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren tweeted. None of us should exonerate Warren for scalping her neighbor, molesting her children and secretly marrying two Russian agents of unknown sexual tendencies until she proves to us that these allegations aren't true. That ole innocent until proven guilty yarn, ha!
Abortion bans failed in the 19th century. They'll also fail in the 21st- [reason.com]
RobBlair comments on Sep 16, 2019:
About half of the patients that receive an abortion don't survive the operation. Murder bans, theft bans, ... "Reason" totally misses on this one. I'll also point out that trashing Roe v Wade does not change New York or California's stance on abortion. Suggesting that it will return abortion to an underground practice is fear mongering.

The first chapters of "The Skeptical Environmentalist" go through ways people have lied with graphs and statistics. I highly recommend the book. It is very readable and the exercise gets you thinking skeptically - an essential tool in today's online world. Almost 20 years old and still relevant - https://www.amazon.com/Skeptical-Environmentalist-Measuring-State-World/dp/0521010683/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3OYUJ1T90EL5A

We should enjoy the success a "Steve Jobs" can bring to the table while working towards a political culture that would foster the success of a "Bill Gates." Let us not forget that Mit Romney, with significant political and business experience was unelectable. Part of the necessary transformation is to destroy or coax the MSM back to reality.
