RobBlair comments on Aug 5, 2020:
Minnesota law - they might be able to charge assault if they can show intent to cause immediate bodily harm (his knee on his neck for prolonged period of time should suffice). Going for 2nd Degree (which is what they filed) is a stretch as follows: - 1-(1) - showing intent for murder does not match with the original behavior of the officers - calm, reholstered weapon, tried to restrain and place person in car for processing, called for medical support, etc... - 1-(2) - not a drive-by - 2-(1) - Officers were not engaged in felonious behavior - 2-(2) - No order for protection We live in interesting times. "Subd. 10.Assault. "Assault" is: (1) an act done with intent to cause fear in another of immediate bodily harm or death; or (2) the intentional infliction of or attempt to inflict bodily harm upon another." "609.19 MURDER IN THE SECOND DEGREE. Subdivision 1.Intentional murder; drive-by shootings. Whoever does either of the following is guilty of murder in the second degree and may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than 40 years: (1) causes the death of a human being with intent to effect the death of that person or another, but without premeditation; or (2) causes the death of a human being while committing or attempting to commit a drive-by shooting in violation of section 609.66, subdivision 1e, under circumstances other than those described in section 609.185, paragraph (a), clause (3). Subd. 2.Unintentional murders. Whoever does either of the following is guilty of unintentional murder in the second degree and may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than 40 years: (1) causes the death of a human being, without intent to effect the death of any person, while committing or attempting to commit a felony offense other than criminal sexual conduct in the first or second degree with force or violence or a drive-by shooting; or (2) causes the death of a human being without intent to effect the death of any person, while intentionally inflicting or attempting to inflict bodily harm upon the victim, when the perpetrator is restrained under an order for protection and the victim is a person designated to receive protection under the order. As used in this clause, "order for protection" includes an order for protection issued under chapter 518B; a harassment restraining order issued under section 609.748; a court order setting conditions of pretrial release or conditions of a criminal sentence or juvenile court disposition; a restraining order issued in a marriage dissolution action; and any order issued by a court of another state or of the United States that is similar to any of these orders."

No, they are just happy to exploit foolish governments that destabilize themselves. It should surprise no one that GS, recognizing a volatile region, is large enough to self insure their investments while requiring a higher yield on those investments to cover the higher risk. They probably have a whole department reviewing South Africa's government so they can accurately predict when to pull out and make the biggest buck on a bad situation. I hesitate to label GS's actions evil though. Relieving liars and fools of their money is a service to humankind (will shorten their reign of power and be a lesson learned to those who look). I just wish there weren't all the innocents under the regime who stand to lose greatly in this epic mistake. I would certainly not purchase a South African government bond from GS but if I were in SA I'd probably use GS to offshore any extra money I had in savings.

RobBlair comments on Mar 25, 2019:
Couple things - One, feelings are useful for making choices when you don't have the time and/or information to make logical decisions. Example picking between Heinz Ketchup and the store brand - you might have positive feelings attached to Heinz because of that time with family and hamburgers, etc... With information, price and knowledge that the store brand is effectively the same flavor, the logical decision might be different. So, more information to inform your feelings, decisions and opinions should be welcomed and reviewed. (I will add that no one has the time and/or information to make a fully logical decision regarding God. He's just the first postulate in a line of reasoning) Two, God tells us who He is, not the other way around. Some of us believe in specific revelations (at the same time rejecting others) and I think most of us pursue God rationally through observation. But, insofar as we are able, we should strive to understand truth. No comets and Nike sneakers people.

Keep protesting. Just stop being stupid. There is a balance. One incident of an officer murdering someone is matched with more than 8 police officers who have been killed in the line of duty and numerous murderers and other violent criminals being taken off the streets. The reason that one officer murdering someone is so important is because, as a republic, we are partially responsible for monitoring the government system and those who we elect. The term "White Nationalism" is racist.
RobBlair comments on Jul 18, 2019:
I'm going to make a distinction here that I've been thinking about: an object or statement is not racist. One must make the jump to the person or group that is hosting the ideas to qualify them as racist. "White Nationalism" is not racist. The desire to gather with people who share traits with you is called tribalism and is not, in and of itself, racist. It is a step back from the ideal "all men are created equal." And, just like we find with inner city ethnic enclaves, it does provide a breeding ground for racists. Arguably, people who feel the need to identify as "white nationalists" should be suspected of deeper problems, but as with any group identity, it is the individual that matters. As for being against open borders or immigration in general, the case must be made that specific people are targeting a specific race to be considered racist. To my mind the case must be airtight since the national urge to self defense seems obvious at this point. As for people who voice concerns regarding the emergence of islamic enclaves: -see above regarding city enclaves - not good -voicing objections about religious doctrine should be an American past time and everyone should engage with that thing on their shoulders. Skepticism is a powerful tool that has been given us. Western culture, which has also been given to us, is a gift to the world. We should step forward boldly and offer others the freedom that we have been given.

Cops accused of stealing over $225,000 cannot be sued, thanks to qualified immunity... [reason.com]
RobBlair comments on Sep 24, 2019:
If they stole the money then they should be held accountable for their actions. No magic blue suit. The municipality should provide appropriate insurance, representation and time for defense preparation. In some cases perhaps the jurisdiction should take the place of the defendant. But, in all cases, illegal behavior should be punished. This ruling is bad for a law abiding system and, if it holds, which it won't, will drive a wedge between us and our employees who protect us. I look forward to Clarence Thomas's opinion when he tosses this extra judicial garbage. Good cops should be cherished and bad cops should be spurned.
Is it time for the states to invoke Article V?
RobBlair comments on Mar 1, 2019:
"Here's a quick preview. The Convention passed amendment proposals on the following six ideas: 1. The public debt shall not be increased except upon a recorded vote of two-thirds of each house of Congress. 2. Term limits on Congress 3. Limiting federal overreach by returning the Commerce Clause to its original meaning 4. Limiting the power of federal regulations by giving an easy congressional override 5. Require a super majority for federal taxes and repeal the 16th Amendment 6. Give the states (by a 3/5ths vote) the power to abrogate any federal law, regulation or executive order." Love item 3. Might be time to sign up.

So one of the highest examples of why the US is no longer a racist country, Oprah Winfrey, is using her power to project the 1619 conspiracy theory into leftist factual fiction. Great.

Black delivery driver blocked into Oklahoma neighborhood by HOA president [fox40.com]
RobBlair comments on May 14, 2020:
The presumption of racism is having a negative effect on America. I believe, even worse, is the effect it is having on black people. Can't say the white people weren't being racist nor can I say they were. But, I can definitely say that truck driver lost a good chunk of his day and experienced emotional stress based on the presumption of racism. Same thing with the recent Arbery shooting. If he thought the local law would give him a good shake (something that will need to be corrected), he may not have tried to overcome the man carrying a shotgun. Instead, going with the racist narrative, he presumably saw two white supremacists who would were intent on lynching him and felt the need to rescue himself. Not sure where the balance is, but black people should feel comfortable in their country they helped build. At the same time we should remain vigilant against group mentality that pits one identity group against another.
Dutch farmers clog highways in protest at politicians labeling them climate change problem — RT ...
RobBlair comments on Oct 2, 2019:
If the goal of climate change activists is to accomplish an economically sustained environment for the betterment of humanity, then demonizing farmers makes no sense. If the goal is to eliminate the impact that humans have on our environment, then getting rid of humanity is the answer. More likely, most activists just want to deliver more control of our lives into government control so that our betters in places of authority can do the responsible things (what could go wrong?).
