"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Such beautiful and necessary words.
Wow this article makes my blood boil.
RobBlair comments on May 3, 2019:
So Sachs has bought into the idea that this land was seized from the native population and that returning this land will help right the historical wrong. Effectively, this is the same argument in the US for black reparations for slavery. Here's why this thinking is ignorant: - The original owners of the land and the people who allegedly stole the land are no longer alive. - Actual theft is important to establish. Any negotiated land sale or military conquest should be honored. - Trying to rewrite history is self destructive and a display of hubris. - The injustice caused by a government sweep of its sword held hand will never be outweighed by what little justice it seeks to amend. - This is just state sanctioned theft Unless you can match a group doctrine with an individual's behavior, do not associate the two. Saying communists are thieves would be appropriate since theft for the "common good" is arguably one of their tenants. Tying Jews to this foolishness discounts the Israeli's that were hired by the farmers to train them in self defense.

The reason why the "US" didn't "invest" in recycling is because its not an investment. Pretending that these people have anything to do with innovation, other than destroying it, is tragic. What do you think of the Canadian government proposing to help canola oil farmers?
RobBlair comments on May 1, 2019:
Intrinsic with government "help" is the punishment for those who pay for that help (taxpayers). The first question that will probably never be answered is "Why should government be involved?" To answer the OP question directly, they are helping the farmers because it gives them more power and people erroneously view it as a good thing.

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." Probable cause must be established against an unlawful act. Presumably, in this case, the unlawful act must be something along the lines of mentally ill and judged to be unsafe to themselves and/or the public. Colorado has no such standard outside of patients under supervision. Step one needs to be making it illegal for someone who has been adjudicated as a danger to themselves and the public due to metal illness from owning a weapon. Pennsylvania does have this criteria. Step two would then be issuing a warrant to take possession of the suspected firearms. And done - already on the books. Let's try some scenarios: 1. Crazy Mr. Plum threatened to shoot my son when he picked an apple off of his tree. And we're done. This is intimidation and its illegal. Laws are already on the books. 2. Uncle Joe is getting older and is losing his mental facilities. He's got some scary looking guns and we are concerned that he might be a danger to himself. Too bad. He is an independent person and gets the same rights as everyone else. Perhaps you should talk to him about your concerns? 3. An honorably discharged war veteran seemingly has a mental breakdown and is treated by the VA. Later he sends a vulgar diatribe to his Alma Mater which isn't verbally threatening but does contain a picture of him with a gun. The text is enough to encourage local police to increase security and notify the veteran's home police. Weeks later, police respond to yelling coming from the veteran's home. The veteran tells the police to go away, you don't have a warrant and then proceeds to shoot at the police killing one brave officer(father of two). A year later while standing on the grave of this brave officer, a wannabe Presidential candidate has his state pass legislation that would do absolutely nothing to prevent this gun violence but will ensure many more warrantless attempts to confiscate guns from lawful owners. No doubt more violence will ensue.

Ex Muslim reacts to Jordan Peterson on Islam - YouTube
RobBlair comments on Apr 29, 2019:
In Christianity, the greatest commandment is Love God and Love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:30-1 paraphrased). In spite of this, the history of the church is scattered with many acts of violence and barbarism where one can clearly say the church moved itself away from Christianity. In Islam - "Abu Dharr reported: I said: Messenger of Allah, which of the deeds is the best? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Belief in Allah and Jihad in His cause. ..." Muslim 1:149 and "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued." Quran 9:29 and "But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, an seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. " Quran 9:5 In short, the Christian church, with clear instructions to "...love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you," Matthew 5:44 (NIV) still has had quite the history being reformed. How much harder it must be to the Muslim, who acknowledges the blessings of western culture but is yet faced with instructions (unclear at best) to do harm to those who do not submit? It must be noted that the Quran passages 9:5 and 29 abrogate or write over many of the earlier more peaceful texts in the Islamic texts (ex. 8:61 "But if the enemy incline towards peace, do thou (also) incline towards peace, and trust in Allah: for He is One that heareth and knoweth (all things)." is "written over" by 9:5). What exactly is a Libertarian?
RobBlair comments on Apr 29, 2019:
How the Libertarian Party is different than the Republican Party: 1. Doesn't support protection for the life of the unborn 2. Opposes government defining, limiting or meddling with consenting adults' relationships and does not recognize any government role in the raising of children except in cases of abuse or neglect. (I would assume the abuse definition is narrowly defined here). 3. Supports the freedom and personal responsibility for people to consume what they choose (drugs, etc...) 4. Opposes the income tax (doesn't suggest a replacement) 5. Decriminalize prostitution 6. Phase out Social programs (social security, medicare, medicaid, ...). In contrast to Republicans proposing financially sustaining and modernizing measures. 7. End current foreign intervention policies - foreign aid and wars. 8. End election provisions that unfairly promote the dominant political parties. As an aside - whoever wrote the GOP party platform planks should be fired. Less words, more substance

Specifically, the low income black Americans who have to compete against immigrants for their jobs? Shall I show you something that, if you did, you would love each other? Spread peace between yourselves.” Sahih Muslim 1:96 And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend. 41:34 And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allah . Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers. 42:40 Of course abrogation abrogates the abrogated abrogation. So, these two passages exist in the same text: Those who believe (in the Quran) and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures) and the Christians and the Sabians, - Any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord: on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. 2:62 and If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to God), never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (All spiritual good). 3:85

CDC experts attribute this to: more measles cases than usual in some countries to which Americans often travel (such as England, France, Germany, India, the Philippines and Vietnam), and therefore more measles cases coming into the US, and/or more spreading of measles in U.S. communities with pockets of unvaccinated people. Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own." - JFK http://www.ushistory.org/documents/ask-not.htm

Barring libel and calls to violence, I still think the first step needs to be directed directly at the person making the uncivil post. Make it an option (next to the reply button) to flag a comment directed to the person and request that they change their post. If they don't respond (put a time limit on it), the uncivil post gets upgraded to a higher authority. If I say something uncivil I'd like a chance to defend it or fix it.

Why would you not discriminate based on someone's chosen belief? Who elected these pretentious dolts? "Mohammad takes over Mecca - remake number 37. Action!" RobBlair comments on Apr 22, 2019:
If you are not critical of Islam you are either not paying attention or don't understand the foundational purpose of religious doctrine. Specific criticisms of Islam include: - Killing for apostacy - "Who can be more wicked than one who invent a lie against Allah?" If the death penalty is prescribed for lesser crime, then it stands to reason that it should be imposed for the most "wicked".https://www.thereligionofpeace.com/quran/noble/sura6.html#93 - Killing for homosexuality - "...For ye practice your lusts on men in preference to women: ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds.... And we rained down on them a shower (of brimstone)" https://www.thereligionofpeace.com/quran/noble/sura7.html#80 - Subjugation of non-believers - "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued." https://www.thereligionofpeace.com/quran/noble/sura9.html#29 A list of other "bad" things - https://www.thereligionofpeace.com/pages/quran/index.aspx The noble quran - https://quran.com/ Regarding the current version of the Quran. It is organized by longest book to shortest. It can only be "correctly" understood in the original Arabic. Since it contradicts itself, passages that were written later in life, during Muhammad's conquest, take precedent over the earlier peaceful passages. In western culture we understand that questioning and doubting is an appropriate discipline for advancing our understanding. Perhaps we should take that as a responsibility?

RobBlair comments on Apr 18, 2019:
There are 2 problems as I see it. First, the Federal government is legally restricted from negotiating the price of drugs for Medicare part D. Obama promised to correct this and failed in his 8 years. Trump still has 6. In any case, this is a legislative issue which won't go anywhere under the current climate. Second, giving the Federal government negotiating power over a private captured market seems like a really bad idea prone to considerable abuse. My suggestion to level the field is to require the Pharmaceuticals to sell the drugs at the average price they sell to everyone else. Medicare is a heavy and should easily be able to demand an average price. This will put appropriate upward pricing pressure on other buyers and minimize the loss of revenue for the pharmaceuticals so they can continue R and D for future drugs.
