I'm speechless. This is so wrong it seems impossible for it to happen in this country. When I see stuff like this I'm reminded that every sin comes with prepackaged consequences, some of which might not be realized for years to come. I can't imagine how this will play out for the kids and parents involved.

coalburned comments on Jun 18, 2019:
Antisemitism may or may not be intended to discourage criticism. It's often an accurate descriptor. Islamophobia, along with all the other "-phobias" are silly labels that have found their way into the language as a way to shame or marginalize opposing viewpoints and shut down meaningful dialog.

Good article. Makes me wonder how many other subtle messages are finding their mark, pushing other "victimized" or "oppressed" groups toward socialism. I wouldn't disagree, but I think it's an over-simplification. You'd have to delve into why they dislike the current state of affairs, and I doubt we have enough time or space here for that discussion. My simplified view is that there are forces out there that crave power, dominance, and wealth. You can't maintain control over millions (billions?) of people unless you consolidate it at the government level. Take a look at most Progressive causes and see if there are any that don't lead to expanded govt, both in size and degree of control. Every one of us knows the old adage; power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. If we let the govt grow large and give it great control over our freedoms, those freedoms will inevitably cease to exist. And getting them back will be next to impossible. A few simple examples will demonstrate their unwillingness to part with their gains. Can you imagine getting Congress to give itself a pay cut? How about term limits? Would they curb spending and give the taxes back to the people? The government doesn't give back what it gets without a mighty struggle.
Christianity is under ATTACK in Australia - YouTube
coalburned comments on Jun 17, 2019:
While the carnal side of me wants to cry foul and fight back, the Spirit reminds me that Jesus predicted that his followers would be persecuted. Persecution takes a variety of forms, but maybe we should be thankful. The church doesn't grow much during times of prosperity because...well, we all understand human nature. We grow and become stronger under adversity. So does the church. Persecution isn't necessarily a bad thing from God's perspective. I think it saddens him, but he sees the potential for good to flow from it. I know it sounds odd to be thankful for times like these, but we've collectively brought them on ourselves, and if we submit to God's plan, these could be truly great times from his point of view.

The legalisation of abortion infuriates many people because abortion means killing lives.
coalburned comments on Jun 6, 2019:
Naomi, I think we all understand that the euthanizing of unwanted animals is bothersome to you. You're not alone. But unless you are putting animal life on the same level as human life, saying that animal euthanasia is as bad as abortion is an emotional position. Don't get me wrong, I think pretty much everyone agrees that putting animals down simply because they are unwanted is sad and tragic. But it's no where near the level of taking a human life. And I don't know about you, but I find it pretty odd that animals that are euthanized die quite peacefully, while abortion, particularly at later stages of pregnancy, is absolutely barbaric. Again, I understand your argument here, and I wholeheartedly agree that animal euthanasia is sometimes done for lousy reasons. But comparing it to abortion isn't the way to solve the problem. The only way that argument flies, in my opinion, is if you think animal life is on the same level as human life. For reasons I've stated elsewhere here, that is most definitely not the case.

Fun Imaginary game. If you had the power to implement 3 changes to law...What would they be?
coalburned comments on Jun 5, 2019:
1. Term limits for all Congressional seats 2. Media Accountability Act. I like @PaulBuckingham suggestion better than what I was thinking, so let's go with that. 3. This would be difficult to define, but I'd like to see| a law that automatically penalizes anyone who brings a frivolous lawsuit that is thrown out of court. The problem, of course, is defining what constitutes frivolous. Judges could make the determination, but that would likely lead to a lot of inconsistency. But maybe just the threat of penalty would deter many who are just up to no good. Maybe penalize the lawyers who take on those cases, too.

Those who claim that Christianity and socialism go hand in glove are grasping for straws. I have been asked lately to prove from the Bible Jesus is God.
coalburned comments on Apr 26, 2019:
It sounds like you're dealing with a skeptic. Most of them I've encountered don't want to do any heavy lifting, but would rather put the burden of proof on you, then poke holes in your arguments. The simplest reference is John 1:1-4, which says clearly that the Word (Jesus) is God. I don't know if that constitutes "proof". I suppose it depends on whether or not you consider the Bible to be authoritative.
Do you know the exact date you came to faith?
coalburned comments on Apr 26, 2019:
No, I don't. I know some people can, but I suspect most of us don't. I used to feel like something was wrong because I couldn't pinpoint a date. I remember when I was baptized, which is actually more meaningful to me. Your salvation experience is totally unique because God's plan for your life is totally unique. Your experiences, upbringing, temperament, family dynamic, education, how you heard the gospel and how you responded to it are unquestionably one of a kind. Consider, too, that hearing the gospel and believing it don't equal salvation. I don't remember a time when I didn't believe Jesus is who he says he is and that he died so we might have eternal life. But I can assure you I spent many years unsaved. It wasn't until I changed my view of sin that everything changed. Don't compare yourself and your testimony to anyone else's. The only thing people need to hear is how your life was without Christ, and how is it now.

But I've never been utterly hopeless, helpless, or so depressed that ending my life seemed like a better option.

I understand exactly what you're saying. The problem is, who decides what is morally acceptable, and when do we cross the line into censorship? I'm afraid the answer, which is increasingly difficult to maintain today, is a strong family unit. The gradual collapse of the family over the past couple of generations is, IMO, the reason we see the garbage we do. The best you can do is model the kind of behavior you want your kids to exhibit. Other than feed them, educate them, and keep them safe, that's our only jobs as parents.

It's more important than ever to exercise extreme caution when digesting the news. Lieu and Nadler are both despicable. The apostles undoubtedly knew he was extraordinary and sent by God, but we see in Luke 24:45 that it wasn't until after the resurrection that Jesus opened their minds so they could fully understand who he was. There's no question the proposal to lower the voting age is all about grabbing votes. Dems know full well young people are driven more by emotion than rational thought, are susceptible to messaging from media sites that is overwhelmingly liberal, and have a tendency to follow what they perceive to be the popular trends. coalburned comments on Mar 28, 2019:
I have no problem with the idea of a young earth, but I don't think it's the only view that should be put forward. I'm open to the possibility that Genesis 1 was designed to be an account that could be easily passed down from generation to generation verbally, and as such is only concerned with what God did and not how long it took him. The problem I have with the old-earth accounts I've read is that I haven't seen one yet that seriously considers the ramifications of a catastrophic global flood. So that leaves me on the fence, which is fine by me because I find origins debates to be divisive. I'm more concerned with where we're all going than how long we've been around.

I think there's a lot of truth in that. I also believe that our broken human nature makes us prone to pursuing possessions, which of course is idolatry. I've always been fascinated by the spiritual richness of poor people. There's a lesson to be learned there.
What is your view of the Gospel restoration movement as contrasted to the "prosperity Gospel"?
coalburned comments on Mar 27, 2019:
I'll be honest. I thought the prosperity gospel had been debunked. Apparently not. The gospel isn't about health and wealth. It's about sin and salvation. I guess there will never be a shortage of con men who know how to take advantage of people's emotions

How necessary do you think a college education is? Should we push more kids towards trades?
coalburned comments on Mar 25, 2019:
It depends on the field. For many science-related jobs, it's a big deal. What I can't stand, though, is what seems to be the popular view that kids are second rate if they don't have a degree. What a crock. I worked 30 years for a large company that, since the late 80s, wouldn't consider hiring you without a degree. What I learned is that, for the vast majority of positions, a degree was meaningless. A degree tells me (assuming you applied yourself and got good grades) that you stuck it out for 4 years, and more importantly, you know how to learn. BUT...the same can be said of someone with 2 years of trade school or military experience, AND that person will most likely have an applicable skill that can be put to use immediately. I'm a huge believer in learning a skilled trade because you never know what life is going to throw at you, and it's always good to have a skill you can fall back on. Let's face it, the world will ALWAYS need plumbers, electricians, HVAC techs, welders, auto mechanics, etc.
So I have a statement to make, and I want to get people’s thoughtful comments.

I agree that there are many questionable actions surrounding this entire sham. I tried to find a link to Lindsey Graham's press conference, but couldn't find the one that nets out his concerns about possible illegal activities by the FBI and others. He seems determined to launch an investigation and get some answers. This should never have happened, and we need to make sure it never happens again.

I wonder if this his how Pelosi feels? I know WE sure do!

On my way to work this morning I was thinking about how much more civilized things felt before these 3 were elected. As divided as we were, these 3 have taken us to a whole new level of insanity. And perhaps most insane is the fact that the media is obsessed with them.
Reparations for slavery
coalburned comments on Mar 24, 2019:
Absolutely not. Hasn't the Democratic party done enough to keep blacks dependent on them? Just like immigration policy, health care, and lowering the voting age....it's all about votes.
Is Joe Rogan just a really cool guy with a galaxy brain that is in the pursuit of knowledge?
coalburned comments on Mar 24, 2019:
I think Joe likes balanced, respectful, intelligent dialog. I'm sure everyone in his line of work cares about clicks, but I don't think he's a slave to them.

What is your opinions I know what my is!
coalburned comments on Mar 21, 2019:
I'll not crazy about some of the opinions held by certain FOX contributors (ok, some of them drive me up the wall), but I applaud FOX for giving them a voice and presenting contrasting viewpoints. I wouldn't want FOX to be the conservative equivalent of MSNBC/CNN/NBC.
