I put a gun and a badge on over FIFTY years ago!!! Would I do it again today, NO WAY!!!!! The men and women that I worked with for three decades had no problem putting their lives on the line at any time, and some good friends lost their lives, luckily that was not an everyday issue!!! I have done an unofficial poll of those ex-officers!! the majority, like me, would not put the badge back on NOW!!!! You ask why!!!! The circumstance of todays society have changed, law enforcement does not have the moral support of the majority of the public that use to exist!!!! Ya, I known we never had full support of society, but we did have a majority in most cases!!! The new generation of officers have never had that feeling of support that we had!!! So, what you get is a different breed of officer than ever existed, at least in this country!!! We were trained by older officers that started, in some cases, during the 1930s!!!! We did not have bullet proof vest, semi-auto weapons or even back-up at all times!!!! The district that I started working in, backup could be 30 minutes to an hour away!!!! I had to deal with what ever I got into on my own, in most cases!!!! If you wanted to take one of us on, you were most likely going to get hurt, we did not play nice, we had a job to do, and we , in most cases, did it alone!!!!! You ask why Law Enforcement Officers are not like you imagine they should be any more!!! It is because Society has place more restrictions on them, and people like me can not/ would not work under those circumstances!!!! So YOU get a different breed of officer!!!! GOOD LUCK with that!!!! Of course this is all based on my personal opinion and experience, so take it with a grain of salt!!!! Not all officers worked in an area like I did, nor did they have the same experiences!!!! I live in fly over country, when I talk to anyone from either coast that claims to be a conservative, it becomes immediately obvious that THEY have absolutely NO IDEA!!!!!!! IMHO, just saying!!!!
