Why are we having a “Day of Remembrance and Action Against Islamophobia”?
I do not want to diminish the attack, but why are setting aside a day to commemorate this, thankfully, one attack? One. Attack. And why it is being rolled into a day against Islamophobia? Islamophobia is the irrational fear of Islam and I think it now refers to fear of backlash against the Muslim community, whether the attack is on the community or attacks committed by members of the community: we are directed to avoid anti-Muslim push back. There seems to be a deep seated fear on the part of politicians and police about blow-back on Muslim communities. When was the last time there was a deadly retaliatory attack against Muslims following an attack by a Muslim or on Muslim communities? I do remember the Charlie Hebdo attack, in France. Retaliation for the offence of drawing a picture of the Prophet in an unflattering manner.

According to the 2018 Public Report on the Terrorism Threat to Canada

“The principal terrorist threat to Canada and Canadian interests continues to be that posed by individuals or groups who are inspired by violent Sunni Islamist ideology and terrorist groups, such as Daesh or al-Qaida (AQ).”

There is a movie - not intellectually stimulating by any means - but perhaps prophetic, titled "The Chronicles of Riddick".
In that film there exists a planet - Helion Prime, which is basically a haven for people of the Muslim faith. The irony of the movie, IMHO, is that an outer-world race of religious zealots, hell-bent on converting the entire universe to their faith, attacks Helion Prime and kills anyone unwilling to convert.

A force more powerful than Islam sets out to destroy everything in the name of the Necromonger faith. Scary. But representative of something familiar? I often wonder if David Twohy was giving us a message.

The West seems to bend over backwards to appease Muslim refugees/immigrants. We are constantly hearing politicians affirming their stance with their Muslim brothers and sisters. I have yet to hear them say they are standing with their Christian, Jewish, Bhuddist etc brothers and sisters. In reality how can anyone prevent Islamophobia a word to label anyone who takes a stand against Islam? A phobia is an irrational fear of something. Where is Christophobia? It doesn't seem to exist.

I'll be more than happy to observe a "a Day of Rememberance and Action Against Islamophobia when the all the muslim countries stop their genocide and atrocities against Christians. Until then I'll wait when hell freezes over.

It's a classic case of "gesture politics". It has nothing to do with mourning or islamopobia. It's just an opportunity for politicians to virtue signal in the hope of getting more votes. It will have no impact on any future policies, actions or changes in attitudes. Those who take part in it will just do it to feel good about themselves

"Look what a lovely, caring person I am!"

Islamaphobia would not be the right word. How about a fear of about 900,000,000 radical Muslims. Ben Shapiro shared some stats from the Major Muslim countries which asked different questions about whether they favor: Sharia law, Hamas, and some other identifying factors that I forget. Is the Islamic faith becoming more extreme?

I'll take a stab at this.

The moneyed interests benefit from all war, therefore keeping the west divided is beneficial to them until it can be conquered along with it's Christian liberal values.

The west primarily consists of Christians who say "love thy neighbor". Christians are the sleeping giant in this case.

Islam, who's been fighting Christians forever, say "kill the infadel". They are NOT primerily in the west...yet.

So if guilt & pressure can be successfully imposed on Christians to keep them passive, the west can finally be conquered by Islam and the moneyed interests get thier global governance without all that pesky libertarian God given autonomy.

Just my 2 cents

Interestingly any other phobia is accepted as something to address medically, but, not Islamophobia. That is treated differently even though phobia (irrational fear of) is prominent in the label.

This is a tough topic for me. We need to remember the atrocities perpetrated against groups of people for religious, political, or ideological reasons. Mainly so we can strive for a better world without such events. Killings represent the epitome of hate. Politically or religiously motivated violence should be condemned in all cases. But humans are war-like in their nature. It keeps us close to the animals. We have not progressed enough, in that regard. Some of us have, but not enough. The argument can be made that religious fundamentalist zealots of certain faiths engage in violence because of a perversion of their religious doctrine. Others advance to higher planes of consciousness which allow them to transcend their violent tendencies. I wish that was the result for all people of faith.

The Islamic phenomenon is strange to most of us. Though history provides us with a backdrop with which we should view the current expansion of the Muslim faith, the more ancient examples are far from our minds, especially since many of us aren't well-versed in world history. So this seems like a "new thing" to many.

When violent factions exist within what is purported to be a "peaceful" religion, it is confusing. It causes everyone to believe people of this "peaceful" religion have become unpredictable. That produces fear, which is the main goal of terrorists. Terrorists should be routed out of legitimate religious groups of all faiths and prevented from engaging in acts of violence.

The world is a strange and complicated place full of strange and complicated people. However, religious freedoms should not include "killing in the name of God". How should the world deal with those that commit mass-murder in the name of their faith? It seems that nations are scrambling to deal with this on a national level, but it is a world-wide problem.

Well said, and thoughtful. We have many basic characteristics that serve the same basic function, but throw free will in there and its a whole different animal 🙂

This link will add an ingredient to your resolution formulation:

Christians killed in Africa, Indonesia & Middle East daily & the Worlds MSM stay silent! 50 Muslims killed in NZ & the whole World is in an uproar?

Three times as many deaths as in Christchurch!

At least as much worldwide outrage would be appropriate.

Edit: This incident occurred in 2015, whereas the Christchurch incident is contemporary.

What does an international day of mourning accomplish? The victims are dead

the only thing it will accomplish is appeasing to the muslim communties. my opinion.

Taking our kindness as weakness...sad that it has come to Political propagandists and Lawfare against the open and honest debate of an ideology Worth Debating!

The Canadian led push back agains Lawfare lawsuits, are in my opinion, the first true test of any meaningful action to turn back the radical tide, that would drown us all. People that don't know what that is, can find the site under OperationKillSwitch.com google will try to misdirect the search. Will try to post the link on my page.

May I just add, they do see kindness as a weakness to be exploited. Its worked well so far. but I think they have poked the teddy bear one too many times and the grizzly is emerging.

Good points. There is seems to be a concerted effort, in many countries, all over the world, to shut down free speech and any opposition to radical Islamist ideologies. It is first a politicised religion, not simply a religion, or political party, but is both. People who believe that church and state should be kept separate, to protect everyones individual liberties intact should think about that for a while.

Have you considered supporting Tom Quiggin in #KillSwich! We are addressing this very issue of Freedom of Speech and Lawfare!

@RubyWright yes, am doing what I can. Am in full support mode, lol

3

Good question, I think we should have a national day of mourning for all the victims of islamic terror attacks
