How The Church Can Destroy Liberalism Liberalism is a synonym for evil and evil the creation of ...
JacksonNought comments on Apr 14, 2020:
You know, the conservative movement and the Republican party could be a lot more appealing and attract more people if it wasn't basically a platform for fundamentalist Christianity. From reading the Bible, it sure seemed like Jesus was a liberal.

I think the message is that we need doctors right now, not Jesus?

If that happens, I wonder how the conservative "states' rights" people will respond.
What Atheism Needs.
JacksonNought comments on Apr 11, 2020:
As I've said before, Atheism is nothing but an answer to the question "do you believe in any god or gods?" It doesn't "offer" anything. What you seem to be suggesting is something to "believe in" just because it would make us happier or give us purpose or something. I care more about what is true, not what sounds better. I can't make myself believe in something just because it would give some positivity.
Atheists: How do you define morality?
JacksonNought comments on Apr 10, 2020:
One thing I saw recently that I thought was interesting: if you are defining morality as from god, where does god get it? Is it already an objective code that god follows, in which case you don't need a god for it? Or is it just because that god says so, in which case it isn't actually objective because it is based on its whims? If it is the latter, then why do we have to follow it just because it says so?

As with any video put out by a biased source, you can selectively choose which responses to show to fit your narrative. As they showed at the end, not everyone would be okay with COVID lasting longer or being worse to guarantee Trump is defeated. I am sure if you asked, there are people who would be fine with COVID lasting longer and killing more people if it meant Trump would be guaranteed to win another term or get to stay longer due to a delayed election. I am not a Trump supported in any way, and would love to see him out of office, but I would prefer the COVID nightmare to be over ASAP. I am barely affected right now, as my career enables me to work from home without any impact, and I am not missing the presence of other humans. But I would still prefer the world to go back to normal and for the lives of those impacted to get better, rather than be petty and political.
Atheists: How do you define morality?
JacksonNought comments on Apr 10, 2020:
I don't really believe morality exists, as that implies there is some universal objective truth as to what is moral or immoral. It's really subjective, based on your society / community. Most religions will tell you that there is an absolute moral code, and only they specifically have it 100% correct. The way I choose to live my life is to grant everyone their own individual freedom, as long as it does not impact the freedom of anyone else.
Being atheist is like being a libertarian. Sounds good as long as you admit it can't scale.
JacksonNought comments on Apr 10, 2020:
What exactly do you mean by scale?

Hello, as a theist I have a question.
JacksonNought comments on Mar 27, 2020:
I was raised Jewish, in a primarily Christian community, so right off the bat I was already an "other" amongst my peers and had a wider perspective that not everyone had the same beliefs. I was clued into the fact that Santa was made-up, and was told I had to lie to the Christian kids to not ruin their fun - I was always curious how parents were able to convince their children that they did indeed lie about Santa (an omnipotent supernatural being who rewarded good behavior and punished bad behavior) but definitely weren't lying about God/Jesus (an omnipotent supernatural being who rewarded good behavior and punished bad behavior). So from an early age I was already a skeptic, and as I became older I just kinda realized I never had sufficient proof that there were any gods. I did my own research, studied religious scriptures for multiple different viewpoints, and saw that they all had their contradictions and flaws, and couldn't hold up. I came to the default position - that without evidence, it is more reasonable to assume there is no higher-power. If proper, scientifically sound, irrefutable proof were to come out, I would change my mind - but I am doubtful that would happen, and even if so, I am almost positive it would not be the god of the Bible.
Can someone please explain what is Islamaphobia ?
JacksonNought comments on Mar 27, 2020:
At the literal level, it is a fear of Islam, but that is not how it is applied today. It is more of a generic term for anti-Islamic bigotry, when someone has an unjustified or irrational hatred towards a person or group of people simply because they subscribe to Islam. It is similar to Homophobia, where people aren't literally afraid of homosexuals, but they hate them. It can be demonstrated by anyone, but in most cases applies to far-right deeply religious groups, in a "pot calling kettle" scenario. Often it is evangelical Christians, true-blue patriots who believe in American ideals and the Constitution, but only when it applies to their own religion. They will waive off any criticism of their anti-religious-freedom by claiming Islam is a "political ideology" and not a true religion. They will fight tooth-and-nail to try and prevent the possibility of "Sharia Law" from being allowed in the US, while being perfectly okay with trying to force their own dogma into legislation. They will say that the Quran is full of evil verses calling for violence, while ignoring the violence in the Bible. They will state that extremist groups like Al Qaeda and ISIS are 100% representative of the Muslim community, or that more mainstream Muslims should have to apologize for the actions of fundamentalists, while saying that groups like the Westboro Baptist Church are not "true Christians" and therefore their religion is truly peaceful and loving. They will say that the dark and violent days of their religion are long in the past, while Islam is violent today - ignoring cases such as Christian missionaries going to Uganda to champion a "kill the gays" law, and rampant sexual assault in the Catholic Church which is swept under the rug. You will find these are the same people claiming that Hitler was an atheist, and that more people were killed "in the name of atheism" than any religion. They are the same people trying to ban abortion because they are pro-life, yet they also want to ban anything that can reduce unwanted pregnancy - birth control, factual non-abstinence-only sexual education in school, allowing gay people to adopt from foster care, etc. They are the same people who would rather ban religious displays from a government building or a public school, rather than allow different religious viewpoints from being given equal accommodation and representation. They are the same people who will say that any violence by a Muslim (or even just a person of Middle Eastern descent) is clearly an act of religious extremism, but if a white Judeo-Christian person commits a violent act is it a lone-wolf mental health issue. When a Christian cult in Panama, calling themselves The New Light of God, massacres a group of people, these people will label them Satanists. When...
