Hanno replies on Jun 23, 2020:
@Facci Thanks. I have all studied those in the past. There are about 50 sections in the Bible counted as prophesy came true that I have seen. I understand they may be good enough for your faith and I need to say I envy you to some extent and are happy for anyone to believe what they want as long as they don’t hurt anyone by dong so etc etc... Psalm 22 is ambiguous and was not meant as a prophecy originally, with that I mean he was describing his own personal anguish by describing a death scene common at the time to describe the mental anguish he is in. It does not actually describe a crucifixion etc. It is very coincidental yes. I know “my bones are out of joint” is believed to mean how Jesus was hanging, however it is more consistent with being torn to pieces by horses etc which was common at the time. same for them casting lots for my clothes... yes the gospels say that, however it was common practice with a dead prisoners belongings. We can go through the whole psalm and their are better explanations for every verse. The actual prophesy Nebuchadnessar’s dream is more interesting. I studied this in detail in early 1990’s and the consensus was ( among many scholars) that the prophecy had been completed already by Roman times, final kingdom of iron and clay being the Romans crushed by the rock, the rock being Jesus and his modern day movement. He then talks about loosing his mind and before his death which is very common and his own fears of that fate. This is the first time I read anyone linking that with Saddam Hussein which kinda proves my point about the prophesy being ambiguous... it can mean many things and you picked one that fits for you. However, I will concede that it is my standard not being met and not yours so will argue other reasons if we ever meet in person and wanted to discuss the existence of gods.

The development of basic understanding of doing the right thing that is good for my group (what animals do instinctively) to understanding that not doing it is “wrong” happened slowly as cognitive abilities developed. At the same time or slightly later maybe the same cognitive ability allowed human ancestors to start wondering about what happens when you die etc. To me religion is the belief of things without evidence. That anyway is the biblical definition and I have used it for all religion. You may disagree. The existence of moral thought and religion are seperate issues to me. I can understand but disagree that one can think that religion and morality is a chicken and egg thing, which come first... whereas I think it a dog and cat thing... they co evolved separately, However affected each other’s development.

@Naomi You make the assumptions that animals don’t reason. This is patently false. Dolphins have been shown to reason very well and can solve puzzles that require significant reasoning. Same with bonobos and chimps. If you ever owned dogs and studied their behaviour you would have seen them reason things out... on though a low level, they still work stuff out. Human ancestors solved significant problems such as fire and clothes before they evolved the vocal cords to speak. We have ample examples or early hominids caring for the old and the injured. Long before there were any actual language and definitely no religion.

Nothing good came from them and much of the Islam/Judaism/Christian issues the world is facing today has their roots in the evil that was done during the Crusades. And if you think the crusades were only against Muslims, you are sadly mistaken. The Crusades failed and caused great harm.

@SupraLibrix First of all you have defined good and evil as physical actions. Hanno replies on Jun 2, 2020:
@SupraLibrix You missed the part where I said physics does not define anything. We define assumptions we make in order to write our observations of nature in mathematical form. The strength of the resulting physics depends on the validity of the original assumptions and how well we defined it. Physics itself is unable to define anything. You can use mathematics to understand human behaviour... however you can not use that to describe or define good or evil as those are subjective to how you define it. You need to make an assumption what good and evil is and then try to define it. You can then do all the physics you want... the result will only be as good as your original assumptions.

@SupraLibrix No, semantics play no role here. You can use any term you want. I don’t think you understand science in general or physics specifically. Physics IS the “tool”. What other tool are you talking about? Any attempt to understand nature using observations, analyses, modeling, testing and evaluation, is by definition Physics.

Hanno replies on Jun 2, 2020:
@SupraLibrix No, physics does not define anything. Physics is our attempt to understand the laws that rule nature. Our physical equations are full of flaws and assumptions and we are continually improving them. That is why we still build colliders and do all kinds of research. They are based on what we observe (which is always biased) and what we can test (which is limited). So anything you are going to derive from physics will be constrained by those two things: your own bias and your ability to test your derivations.

@SupraLibrix I do not deny the value of religion and that it does contain some good teaching and morals. All religions have some good in them. You can learn a lot from the different religions. I am with Jordan Peterson on that one. The fact however remains that ALL religions have major flaws and omit serious issues. This shows you no “perfect” or divine being was involved. All religion is man made, I can prove that easily to you. Just hand me your texts and I will show you the mistakes and gross moral issues. What offended me so much is the repeated claim that your set of man made morals are better than some one else’s. Did we not have enough religious wars and conflict? The notion that my morals are somehow inferior to yours... think about that. Who do you thing you are?

Then what killed the Italians? So for the hi R0 to be true and the time of first infection to be true, then the disease must be extremely harmless else we would have seen many deaths all over Asia in November and December and the rest of the world in January and February... if the month latency period is true. Even if R0 is 2,5... the disease deaths are too late and specific in Italy. And completely absent in Africa? Its far less of a threat than even the nerd thinks. Here's why. Geneticists who have analyzed the gene sequence of SARS COV2, which causes COVID-19, are confident of three facts: 1. There are no markers which are unavoidable when genes are spliced (engineered). 2. The forensic path clearly ...

I agree with everything except you R0 assumption that the whole world was already infected by the time we discovered the disease: 1. Your source does not state that at all. It states the level of infections required to reach herd immunity. 2. If your statement were true we would have had positive cases In Fiji and other islands... they have none. We have zero cases in large areas of NZ ( as you have in the US) and we tested 10s of thousands everywhere. No, the disease was not everywhere early and lockdowns did reduce the spread significantly. The rest you are correct in my view. In NZ our death count of 20 includes people who tested negative for the virus, however where in proximity of infected people and shows symptoms. So we just included them because they could have been infected. This is the case world wide. The reported death rate is many times higher the actual rate. And the infection rate is also many times higher than reported so we have grossly overrated the mortality rate. The world got scared watching too many zombies movies and we destroyed our economies for no reason.
