The purpose of religion is to provide social order beyond what the legal system can provide. Legal systems tend to become so convoluted that it takes a priest (lawyer) to interpret them .

The problem with Christianity is it doesn't provide that social structure. Christianity like Buddhism is fundamentally personal, at least in it's original formulation when you remove the eschatological elements. Remove a bit of theology and the original Christianity seems more a philosophy than a religion.

Many Christians turn to the old testament for social structure but Christianity is or was a reform Jewish cult intent on make God personal not tribal. The conflicts are inherent and unavoidably especially when transplanted on top of Western traditions of rights. Judaism is very much from the East side of the Mediterranean and focused on obligations not rights.

Protestant reformation can be seen as an attempt to make individual rights relevant to a religion (Judaism) designed for God kings in the Eastern tradition. The Pope was a God king and that didn't work well in a civilization with a Greek democratic and Roman republican tradition. Not only were there too many kings but the whole thing ran afoul of the Greek tradition of individual inquiry and European tribalism. Tribalism that while it could be brutally authoritarian still retained the idea of individual independence. The conditions in Europe didn't necessitate the same level of collectivism as in the harsh but stable places civilization first developed.

That passage has to do with a specific type of situation, one that is of a religious nature rather than a political one. A better text here might be, ""Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's" (Matt. 22:21).

@KeithThroop they are church planting. They seem to reject the Nature/ Grace dichotomy that expresses itself in acceptable publc/private categories. They seem to reject that concept and are actively bringing their faith into the Public Square. I think, lol

Their statement of faith is full of contadictions. Israel first, or my country first? What is godlessness? They don't define. They probably mean not going to church. The constitution protects your rights, and God is going to roast you in hell for using them?

@jasonc65 one major problem is that folks are habitually imprecise with their words - and their ideations as well. More often than not their declarations and assertions come out as borderline incoherent platitudinal self aggrandizing pulp. Not to mention that they lack all logic. LOL!
It takes a good deal of honest personal insight to strive to practice use of precise language. Because to do so means that the speakers must hold themselves to whatever standards they wish to lecture everyone else.
This I think is what makes a man like Jordan Peterson so appealing to masses of followers. He does not hold himself out as righteous and above his own human impulses. Quite the opposite is true. He arrived at his analyses using himself subjectively and objectively. He knows his own nature - for better and for worse. The man is very precise with his language and naturally his own worst critic.
