What I remember most about the 1950s was the atom bomb scare and how bomb shelters were being built everywhere by those who could afford them. The rest of us just wet the bed having nightmares about blowing up! heheh
O! and about James Dean (I loved movies)

I hear millennials whine about the pressure of growing up with no hope in a future because of climate change. Try the fear of being obliterated by a nuke!!
The fifties were great years for being a child. That wonderful phrase every parent would utter: "If you're bored I'll find something for you to do. There are plenty of weeds to pull in the yard." Can't say I pulled many weeds. We had a lot of freedom to do and to be and to explore. Lay in the grass on a summer's night and try to find all the constellations, marvel that someday we might travel into outer space.
