Later in the movie <<1492: Conquest of Paradise>>, Gérard Depardieu (as Christopher Columbus) takes a man to task for Columbus’ “wasting his time” on such a foolhardy errand as the search for a New World. The thrust of his scolding was to direct the man to look out over the city below...that this was not accomplished by men who sat back and did nothing. That it was the adventurous heart who brought the world into existence. It was a very moving soliloquy, and if you haven’t watched the movie I really recommend it. While not much of a Depardieu fan, generally, this was an excellent portrayal.
