I am seeing a movement on this board that is disturbing. I have been a way for a bit due to work. I am seeing comments and postings moving further and further right. It is becoming antagonistic. How is that any better than Twitter and Facebook being so far left. My hope was that this can stay centerist and we can have good discussions that move things forward.

Being in your right mind is never a bad thing. When you look at things in there purest form, seeming somewhat sane or looking batshit crazy, all the loonies are on the left and Alex Occasional Cortex is their messiah. I worry about anyone that can't at least touch their toe on the right side of the fence. The insanity of the left is pushing those straddling the fence all the way over and those already right leaning, way over to the right.

Do I detect the old enemy of free expression? Right VS left is a successful tactic employed by the elite ruling class to divide and conquer. In reality, can we say MAGA, without also saying "DAMMIT TRUMP!" from time to time? I wonder.

No that was not the issue at all. It was that a person had made a post that was actually a far right ideal and was being very negative toward a particular group. It was not even a discussion about that group but a condemnation. I do not really care for that type of talk from either side. Anything that sees a person as less than human is an issue. That happens at the extremes, left or right. For the most part the responses tha I have gotten have been very positive and shows a community that is built more on free speech and discourse and not finger pointing and hate. I can get down with that.

I don't care about left or right--that's politics. But, I do care how either construct their arguments. In my view, that's a centrist viewpoint. Centrist = reason = emotion tested by reason. Abortion is just a topic of discussion, but there are wildly disparate opinions that have deeply emotional implications. Who do you think deserves to be protected, women or babies? Well, I will--because I'm a pain in the backside--include men's rights as well. I don't believe in marginalizing any group, and that includes white people and men. To ME, that's a 'centrist' viewpoint, but my experience is that I don't get a lot of buy-in from very many people. Not many would probably call me centrist. I usually get called a republican, a democrat, an atheist, a Christian, a racist--well, just about any 'ist'. I guess I'm always the 'them' to others' 'us'. I think people can have great conversations if they're willing to listen and maintain a modicum of decorum. Like most others, that's not my most prevalent experience.

Now, the really controversial part. Most on the political left that I run into these days are unable to listen and maintain a modicum of decorum. Many on that side have embraced emotion as a gold-standard. They believe their emotion is proof they're right. I find that idea flawed, and so that pits me against that political ideologically-constrained group pretty consistently. It's a tragic outcome, in my opinion. I've read only a few posts here, but in those posts it seems reason is valued over emotion, and so I'm not sure you'll get a great deal of those on the political left here. If you watch the Jordan Peterson thing, you'll see people on that side of the line of scrimmage motivated only to dismantle him personal and force him into a marginal opinion. There are dramatically few people willing to engage the topics without attempting to know Peterson out of the public sphere. Anyway, I'm babbling...

I am enjoying the response to this and how well thought out those responses have been. Thank you all.

It's possible that right-leaning people are more likely to be censored by Facebook or Twitter, and so are looking for someplace where they can speak openly.

One option: Start sorting by "most liked" and like posts that are well-though out, regardless of if you agree or not.

Good point. Make an effort to refute the objectionable posts using credible verifiable evidence. Censorship is NEVER the correct solution.

Yip, personal and emotional views will almost always go left or right. Fact based issues is much more constructive if viewed from a non bias basis.

Ive have only been here a few days i don't really see how this place is left or right but just people with common sense ,can you give some examples ? If you haven't noticed over the years the left doesn't want to discuss anything but the right does so on a platform that allows open opinion of course its gonna to lean a little right because we are open to debate where as the left isn't . I have not seen this hostility your talking about so far everyone has been really cool.

My observation as well, slightly concerning...

I continue to wonder why no forum exists that simply allows users to block those with views they don't want to see and otherwise leave the discussion alone. Like government, if social engineers running big tech would just stay out of the way, magic would happen. At least as I see it.

I guess we all bring our own desires to a place, but for me I didn't join this site in order to have it be comprised of people with similar views but rather because I was hoping for a place that values free speech and debate and doesn't punish one viewpoint. As such, I would hope this site would be comprised of many different views although in my experience there are certain viewpoints that self select out of a medium where free speech is valued and ideas must rise or fall on their merit.

Well, first - if you want most leftist views, then go to Agnostic.com. There you will be castrated and personally attacked for expressing anything even remotely to the right of extreme leftist views. Second - this is a free site, where people can join, or decide NOT to join and engage. I would ask, while maybe the views are "right", are they insulting someone that disagrees? Are they unfounded and without logic or reason? I don't have a problem with ANY POV moving to the right or left, just as long as it is backed up with logic, facts, and proper interpretation. Frankly, most left leaning people probably won't like it here, b/c this community actually forces people to backup their POV with substance, and not just emotional SJW gibberish. I have very very seldom had a discussion with someone leaning left that doesn't use emotion, personal insults, and twisted research to validate their argument. Some have genuine points, but it seems to be the exception. As such, it's no wonder they flee from a group that forces intelligent discord and integrity. I would rather this site be filled with people that are open to new facts, and honest in their discussions, than populating with "diversity" just for diversity sake. I don't see many Nazi's on here, maybe this site is becoming to tolerate of different people and should try to get more racism, sexism, genocidal psychopaths - so we can hear all sides of the issues, regardless of the merit of their POV?

Isn't this why people leave sites like Facebook??

Thanks for the heads up. I do want to bring in more people with Left voices who are willing to engage in civil discussions with people with different world views. I have to hurry up with software to help balance the discussions and promote voices who bring kindness and humanization along with their views.

Well good luck. And if you succeed, you will have solved the problem of animosity in humans toward others who are different.

Lmao...good luck with that. Wasnt it "algorithms " that supposedly caused all the social media issues?

@Golda Yes, mostly because the algorithms are setup to get clicks for profit and outrage sells.

@Admin like I said...I wish you luck!

It was a far right post that got me thinking. I am looking for a home where I can express my ideas of reason and well thought out ideals to move the country forward. Admin, i would love to do what ever I can to help make this work. This site has the right idea. Now how to put that into a form that does not get highjacked by the extremes.
