If the debt defaults and social security stops then puerto rico not paying social security tax is genius.

But to the point, if social security stops then a lot of lazy people gotta go back to work. Theres some 500 pound dudes collecting social security and don't have a disability except for being lazy.

It would save me a lot of time of having to fight to get off welfare programs that are forced on me against my will.

A lot of the bullshit communist laws would be obliterated overnight. All the fascist doctors and dentists living off taxpayers would actually have to provide value rather than forcing people to take vaccines.

All these useless bureaucratic jobs would be obliterated and there would be more freedom for everyone.

All these morons whining about landlords being parasites as they live off taxpayers are simply telling people what they are~parasites living off others labor.

All of the too big to fail parasitic corporations living off taxpayers would go out of business and there would be a small business BOOM.

The parasitic government living off taxpayers while not doing its only duty~ stopping people from initiating force and fraud ,would become much smaller and have to get back to protecting people, rather than attacking its own citizens.

Let this commmunistic shit fall and lets have real change.

Do you really think the communist in congress would agree to cut their own salaries? Living off taxpayers while passing laws that initiate violence and fraud against their own citizens?

I seriously doubt it.

“ If the debt defaults and social security stops… ”
Those two things are not actually tied together.

What is currently at risk isn’t defaulting on the debt (loan), but failure to raise the amount we can borrow by not raising the debt ceiling (the promised maximum amount we will borrow, which has changed dozens of times in the past 4 decades.

It’s a good thing if we fail to raise the debt ceiling promise (they need to stop making promises they have no intentions of keeping).m, because it will require politicians in congress and in the executive branch to stop writing ridiculous checks for any and every shiny thing that catches their eye, like another bribe to another group of people like the caucus that wants us to transfer our wealth to Ukraine or the one that says people who borrow a quarter million dollars to get a degree in underwater basket weaving shouldn’t have to pay it back, so we’ll write a check for it out of the loans we will take and they’ll vote for us, etc…

But back to why they can’t stop paying social security pensions. Workers and businesses pay social security and Medicare insurance premiums. 7.63% of your gross paycheck goes to paying this insurance/pension plan (6.2% of that is for social security). The business for which you work matches that amount to help fund your future pension and medical needs. Therefore this isn’t actually a welfare program. In order to get that “old age pension” you must meet certain criteria, among which include: having paid into the fund for a minimum of 40 quarters (10 years) and surviving until you reach a magical age (which is subject to change at the whims of the politicians). It also accounts for those who have reached the stated magical age after they changed that magical age to higher age, by reducing your promised pension by up to 30 percent. And it accounts for survivors of workers who die or become disabled and unable to support their families. That fund pays for the dependents of the permanently disabled or dead worker that can no longer provide for them. Congress will have to continue to pay social security pensions as long as there are people working and paying those insurance premiums or until they have stolen all the money from that fund.

The problem with the “fund” going bankrupt at some point is that the politicians have dipped into the fund to pay for other promised bribes for votes. The defaulting on the debt (not paying our interest payments) will have no effect on this. The effect it will have is to reduce our AA rating for continued borrowing. That means our interest rate for paying back those loans will be higher. That also means we may need to stop borrowing money until we pay back what we owe. What a novel concept, paying back what we promised to pay back and not borrowing what you can’t pay back… almost like the rest of us have to do.

With Demonicraps in charge, since they can’t stop overspending, that means they’ll go back to their old favorite: Tax more so they can spend more. To be fair, Retardlicans haven’t done much better than the Demonicraps when it comes to stewardship of the American citizen’s tax dollars.

@Neo-Tech

In a way you are right.

Although it is an insurance you pay for (like any other insurance) and has many of the same attributes as other insurance plans and although it is an investment into a pension plan like many other pension plans you pay for and although you must meet specific criteria to collect it like any other insurance plans and retirement investment plans, it has one characteristic that makes it different and more communistic; namely the fact that you can’t easily opt out of it and it is administered by the least regulated and least trustworthy people: the government. Thank you for helping me see your perspective.

“We’re from the government and we’re here to help” said no honest man ever.

However, since I have paid into the social security fund my whole life (many years working 2-3 jobs at a time trying to support my family) and have never been able to opt out, I have determined that I agree, per the contract, that they owe it to me, so I will still collect back some of the money I paid into the fund before I die. I will also suggest that my wife do the same based upon all my contributions.

I have discontinued paying my wife’s and my life insurance contracts because they are pretty expensive at my age, so I can no longer collect on them, but I would if we still had them. However I still have a 401K plan and a separate pension and medical and dental insurance plans I still pay for, so I’ll collect them also and/or suggest that my wife do so after I die. (As per the contract.) I see no virtue nor value in paying for something (voluntarily or involuntarily) and then refusing to accept the proceeds when we accomplish our requirements of the contract.

@Neo-Tech
There is truth to the fact that some people receiving money from the contributions have never worked for it nor were they dependents of somebody who worked for it. It is also true that there is no individual account from which you can withdraw money not against which an individual can take a loan. The system was set up (for better or worse) that current contributions pay for previous generations’ contributors’ benefits.

After my mother retired, my contributions (and those of my generation of workers) were paying for her $355/month pension (and the pensions of her generation of retired workers). I knew then that the system was broken and that I would likely never receive any money, but I decided that it was ok, because my contributions were going to pay to allow my mother to stop working 2 jobs to support herself without having to depend upon her children to pay her bills. She had paid into the pension/insurance and it was time for her to collect what the contract said it owed her. My brother and I have helped her make up the difference to support herself as is our responsibility since our father deserted her when we were very young.

Now that the fullly vested retirement age is 67, the system may continue long enough for us to collect part of our contributions, or maybe not. Either way, I’ll be OK, because, I know God will provide and because like my mother, I have learned (through many years in poverty) how to “pinch a penny until it screams”. I have scattered bread over many waters and some will come back to me. If one is social security annuity, I don’t plan to tell God, “no thanks, that’s just communist money”.

You are clearly an intelligent person who has put a lot of thought into this. I noticed in your bio that you treasure your privacy and your anonymity. I respect that. Are you an American citizen? If not, what system does your country offer to provide for aging people to survive after their ability to work has passed?

I see perfectly healthy people living off welfare every day. Parasites is too good a word to describe these people. Even in the socialist utopias of Scandanavia requires every able bodied person to work.
