It seems artistic types are subject to mental illnesses. It certainly seems true in Hollywood. Don't expect the mentally ill to have sane politics. Their politics like their lives are characterized by narcissism and nihilism.

George Orwell observed that socialist/progressives don't love the poor they just hate the rich. Although today that seems inverted with most social engineering doing more harm to the poor than the rich and powerful it's still about hate. They hate anyone or group that stands in the way of them having control. The human instincts that are at odds with civilization are on full display in progressives. In a jungle world where nature provides everything productivity is absent. Life is about cultivating feelings by grooming. The conflict between the harsh, stable world of civilization and the easy, unstable world of nature literally drives the touchy feely insane.

Creativity is correlated with intelligence but it is also correlated with low conscientiousness. As the Nobel laureate physicist Steven Weinberg noted the usefulness of philosophers is usually confined to arguing against the bad ideas of other philosophers. Like creative scientists they worry about "truth" not consequences. Since pride is somewhat necessary to pursue novelty and art low conscientiousness tends to be associated with hubris. Hubris is the deadly sin we are facing with the rise of corpocracy. While men such as Hemingway are willing to fight authoritarians such as Franco there pride prevents them from being conscious of the failings of progressive ideas. Humility goes hand in hand with conscientiousness. It's why I don't trust people like Ben Shapiro.

Listening to intelligent creative people is always a good idea but don't put them in charge of anything. Read Hemingway for the life experience but don't take his politics seriously.

Old Ernest certainly didn't stick around to see what a victorious Gen. Franco would've had in store for him.
