Ex-Australian Facebook CEO urges users to ‘delete the app’ over news ban

The former chief executive of Facebook’s Australian business urged users to delete the social network’s app in response to Mark Zuckerberg’s “sad” decision to block news from the platform in the country.

Stephen Scheeler, the ex-boss of Facebook Australia and New Zealand, said in an interview that Facebook’s controversial move “looks and feels ugly” and blasted CEO Zuckerberg’s motivations.

“It shouldn’t have happened. But unfortunately it did,” Scheeler told The Australian. “But there’s no good answers … But at Facebook nobody ever loses their jobs.”

“I’m a proud ex-Facebooker, but over the years I get more and more exasperated. For Facebook and Mark it’s too much about the money, and the power, and not about the good,” Scheeler said. “Imagine if a Chinese company for example had done this, we would be up in arms. All Australians should be quite alarmed by this.”

I deleted my FB about a month ago and have honestly felt more productive since then. Moved my Instagram app (because I am a weak woman and like sharing photos like the little attention whore I can be lol) off the home screen of my phone too, so I use that waaayyyy less than I did. Social media is for the most part pretty awful stuff, it seems.

Imagine how much more productive society could be without time parasites that encourage its products(users) to sit on it for hours waiting for the next dopamine hit.

I very rarely use FB. It was often just a time vampire. I can do without it. I mostly use it for messenger. But I can do without that also.
I think there may be an upside - for Australia and the world. If Australians learn to do without the app - and grow stronger for its absence. Then maybe other countries with follow that lead and take similar actions.
Imagine if NZ, UK, Europe, India, Mexico, Canada, ASEAN all took the same stand against Zuckerberg. I think this is his true fear. His sic: facebook's actions seem more akin to the reaction of a Totalitarian regime. I'd expect this behaviour from the Chinese Communist Party.

An upside to Fakebook's block is the extreme left leaning Australian tax payer funded ABC, the leader in fake news & lefty propaganda, has been blocked.
