The first line of the article, fortunately, says it's optional. Of course, that doesn't mean it will stay that way, but at first anyway, it will be optional.

"optional" means that you won't be forced to take the vaccine - but if you don't have the necessary documentation showing that you have been compliant and "volunteered" to take the vaccine you can't be allowed to travel across GBs' borders...see?
Like a cheating salesman - take automobile tires for example: you buy a set of new tires for your buggy...salesman says ok there you go - here are your tires have a good day! You say WTH am I going to do w/new tires that have not been mounted on my car - salesman says "ohhhh, you want we should put tires on the car!" That'll be extra!" - it's your lucky day - today we have a special sale on mounting tires...usually we charge $45 per wheel but today you can have that service for $42.99"
So you can "choose" to have your new tires (your passport stamped) mounted but hey - if you don't want them on the car (you don't WANT to cross the border) well, that's strictly up to you...but let me tell ya - if I just bought a new set of tires I'd want em mounted...its up to you pal so what's it gonna be...
@iThink I'm pretty sure the first paragraph of the article was: "The London Telegraph reports that biometrics firm iProov and cybersecurity firm Mvine have developed the vaccine passports, which will be optionally provided as an app on phones of those vaccinated."
Therefore, according to the article, the vaccine passports are optionally provided. So, yes, I was correct. Thanks for not noticing.
@jamesdomus1861 I don't think you misunderstand my point that "voluntary" in the way it is being used here is to put it kindly disingenuous. To put it bluntly it translates thusly - "you are not required to take the vaccine - we will not force it upon you - however unless you have your vaccination credentials we will not allow you to cross our borders.
