SILLY DEPLORABLE, YOU’VE GOT IT ALL WRONG

Stephanie Ruhle, MSNBC anchor, voiced concern that Joe Biden will be identified with Bernie Sanders and socialism, which might not play well with the Cuban (and now Venezuelan) immigrants in Florida. Of course she takes great pains to distinguish Sanders’ Democratic Socialism from old style socialism. You know which one; the one that littered the 20th century with 100 million corpses and ruined every economy it came in contact with.

“Two reminders:” she tells us, “Democratic socialism is a lot different from the socialism from the countries where they come from, and Joe Biden doesn’t associate himself with either set of principles.”

We’ve heard this a lot over the decades:

“We’re not communists; we’re socialists.”

“We’re not socialists; we’re progressives.” (Because who could be against progress?)

“We’re all liberals now.”

“Progressive” has been making a comeback of late. Bernie said Biden would be the most progressive president since FDR. (After writing Biden’s policy platform for him. But we can’t identify Joe with Bernie. That would be... hate speech or something.)

But the new go-to meme among the nuanced these days (sorry, Deplorables, you don’t make that cut) is, “You’re talking about the wrong kind of socialism. Democratic Socialism is the new, updated variety.”

The distinction seems to be that rather than ramming it down our throats at gunpoint, this new socialism rolls in courtesy of the democratic process. As Ayn Rand pointed out, this is the difference between being murdered, and committing suicide.

Two reminders, Jennifer. To hell with abstract theory and semantic games. The entire Democratic Party has gone all in for The Green New Deal. If you want you argue that’s not socialism, knock yourself out, I don’t care. Every serious economist not named Paul Krugman agrees that it cannot be implemented and to think otherwise is fantasy fluff akin to belief in unicorns. So there’s that. But The Green New Deal is simply how the fundamental philosophy of the left looks when pushed to its absurd extremes and dropped into a sane world where it’s absurdity is on full public display.

Whatever flavor of the left, whatever you call it, look deep enough, you’ll find a heart of pure Marxism. That’s what places them on that side of the aisle. A few fundamental principles unite them all: “the greater good,” however that is defined, takes precedence over the rights of any individual; society’s inequities are an intrinsically bad thing and it is the obligation of the government to correct the imbalances; we “should” all aspire to such an egalitarian society, but in the event that recalcitrant individuals resist, the state will mandate the desired behavior.

This makes them inherently anti-American by definition. This country was founded on principles antithetical to Marx, first among them, the primacy of the individual’s rights over any notion of group rights, and the sanctity of private property. Both these ideals are enshrined in our founding documents and free market capitalism is the inevitable system that evolves from them. Hillary Clinton notwithstanding, the notion of a patriotic leftist is a contradiction.

Scratch a leftist, you’ll find the words carved in stone: “Property is theft.” Dig deep enough, you discover embedded in their soul the timeworn mantra: “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs,” possibly the most anti-human, evil concept ever conceived.

So Jennifer, either you haven’t done your homework, or you’re intentionally lying. But wait—who says we have to choose? I’d say both are true.
