The Romans had also never before encountered chariots until Caeser reached Britain (55BC). After Caesar it took another ~100yrs before the Romans returned in 43AD under Claudius, and another 50yrs before achieving conquest.

In fact some studies I've seen ( I'll be honest and say that these were made several years ago, thibgs might have changed) says that it works less than 20% of the time. Meaning, 80% of the time it doesn't. Scenarios where it had the MOST chance of succeeding : Drowning and other conditions where the heart has stopped due to lack of oxygen.

True. Most of what we assume is our history is disputed. They've even discovered new advanced human species that they were unaware of until recent time. Neanderthals were far more intelligent than they first thought and a lot of the "world wonders" gives us a clue that they had a lot more going on than we think. Pyramids (shouldn't be humanly possible to build with the technology we claim they had available), stonehenge, shouldn't be possible either. There's a lot more ro our history than people are willing to admit. Sometimes conspiracy theories aren't theories.

The word was actually reintroduce by a historian 'Jamieson' in the early part of the 19th century, however, it is a revival of the Old Norse word Vikingr, meaning 'one who came from the Fjords'. Once again, I can't cite because this fucking stupid site doesn't let you copy/paste.
HistoryCorner replies on Mar 20, 2021:
In Old Norse, "Viking" is two words, both nouns: a víkingr is a person, while víking is an activity. A víkingr was someone who went on expeditions, usually abroad, usually by sea. The activity of víking means "to boldly travel". It could certainly include raiding, but was not restricted to that.
