Hi Sydney, saw some fans leaving comments on sound conditioning your studio. My brother is a professional musician and sound engineer, I'm not, but I have designed and built several recording studios for him over the years.

There is a whole field of science behind that and there are engineers that specialize in the field. I have read several books on the topic that I had never intended to read, because of my brother.

Thanks to the Obama-Fauci-Gates Bio-weapon and pundits and guests phoning in and using Skype to be interviewed on TV these days; we've all had the distinct displeasure to have heard terrible rooms and absolutely awful audio; because of these ridiculous home interviews. All because they didn't send any time conditioning their room first.

A little bit of strategic deadening goes a long way. Bare concrete and drywall are the worst for slap back and ringing echoes. Some wood floors are not much better; but some are awesome! You can get some pretty cool richness off off wood. That's why a lot of TV talk shows, 'Talking Dead" with Chris Harwick, for instance, has that wooden block decorative looking structure on a back wall. That'd not decoration, that's there for sound correction in the studio.

Some posters have correctly suggested that you decorate and install furniture that absorbs sound first. Those posters are definitely are on the right track. However, it does not take a lot of stuff, you just need to be strategic about it. You go overboard and then you have a totally dead room and it'll drive you nuts and can actually be painful to be in.

Place I would start, is to test where you get a slap back if you say clap your hands together and try to find that place. It might be on one one particular wall or the ceiling. And fix that first. Might help to have a friend over to sing or listen to you prep, have them walk around and listen for ringing, echoes, etc. Then I'd come back and set up your microphones and recording gear the way you want it. Run though a short monologue while recording. Listen and then try moving some things around, Like maybe putting up a painting on a back wall or tack up some of those 2'x4' ceiling tiles on the wall. Then test again.

For the ceiling I would get several large 2'x4' drop-ceiling tiles and arrange them in the center of the ceiling. You can mount them directly to existing ceiling via plastic T channel and just use drywall screws for the channel. You can arrange these to look intentional and decorative, you can paint them or spread them out. We found a diamond pattern just in the middle of the room worked best, in the last control room we did.

Next is corners, you gotta fill the corners with something, otherwise you will develop standing waves at some point. Funny thing about those standing waves is they can have external sources that you can't easily control or hidden internal sources like a fan or a pump inside your home. They make and sell wedge shaped foam for studios for this purpose and you can buy from Guitar Center or Clearwater on-line. Stuff is expensive though, and it does not always look the best. Cardboard tubes wrapped in carpet have been used to some degree, but they are not ideal but do work in some situations. Plants and shelves can help. You want something there that will either absorb sound or reflect it back out of the corner so it can't build up into that standing wave I was talking about.

Someone mentioned carpet, and drapes, and while they can and do work I am not a huge fan of those options. Drapes are actually pretty expensive to find the good quality heavy material needed in order to be useful and you know, fit your style. Killer, right there. Carpet is one of those things that can actually kill a room and make it unbearable to be in.

The idea is to control sound in your studio, not kill the room and make it so dead no sound enters or escapes. You have got to have a few bright and warm reflective spots too. Take control of the room and when the room sounds good, you'll sound good, and then it all goes back to what you can do with your mics and recording equipment.

Good luck.
