2308041600F OF PRIVILEGE(S) & ABSTRACTION(S)?

The amount of ‘sophistry’ we’re being forced to endure at the hands of these woke socialists is just unbelievable. You and I have got to be wary (apprehensive) of almost every word they say – or I should say every word they distort and/or misuse in their arguments.

Privilege may be the linchpin of all socialist arguments. But a carnivore doesn’t show a preference for any particular skin color when eating you – so where’s the privilege? But don’t believe me and try it out for yourself by all means. Can I watch?

I do have to give way when it comes to mosquitoes as it has been proven that female masque toes prefer male blood over that of females for what ever reason?

Males and females of all species are not the same – if they were they wouldn’t be males as opposed to females. They’d have to be a-sexual like in the movie “Enemy Mine” wouldn’t they?

Then there’s this ludicrous notion that only majorities can be racist. Apparently the old adage: “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.” is completely lost on socialists of any age.

Or the other old adage: Walk a mile in someones shoes before deciding that they have life better than yourself. That too must be lost on them.

Then there’s the declaring anything they don’t want to recognize the reality of as a mere ‘abstraction.’ Well, South Africa is real and not an ‘abstraction’ at all. When it was apartheid it was racism of the minority against the majority. Now that it’s switched I don’t hear a peep about majority racism against the minority – only silence about that.

Privilege is being alive with all the unprivileged being relegated to hell (the common grave of humanity). For a socialist, anything that doesn’t fit their warped narrative is relegated to either a ‘social construct’ and/or an ‘abstraction’-- that way they don’t have to deal with it.

At one time it wasn't questioned that with privilege comes additional obligations. What really defines privilege is that it has to be something that can be withdrawn. For example a leadership role and the social status and rewards associated with it could be considered a privilege. You will hear people say it was a privilege to serve in parliament. There are privileges given in order to make service more effective. For example all members of parliament have the privilege to speak before parliament not granted to nonmembers. In a way they have immunity from having their speech censured that others do not.

The point I'm trying to make is that a privilege is not just an advantage. For example, being attractive is an advantage but not a privilege. What makes it confusing is that you may gain privileges in part because you are attractive, or wealthy, or intelligent etc. but those privileges do not automatically descend from those characteristics. The question becomes what obligations should be met to maintain a privilege? A closely related question is when is a privilege a violation of the equal protection principle? It is also important to not confuse an unfair advantage with a privilege.

The left struggles with the concept of fairness. For the most part reality is at odds with their concept of fairness. For most people on the left for something to be fair it has to be equal. It's an instinct from our evolution in the jungle. Monkeys see fairness as more or less equal access to resources. That is because other than the eusocial animals and humans productivity is relegated to protection, networking and grooming. In the natural environment nature provides productivity for the most part without intervention. If it can be caught or eaten it is.

Yes it is true that hunting and gathering requires skill and effort and sometimes social organization but only minimal foresight. Once you enter the civilized state, foresight becomes a critical ingredient. Hierarchy of competence takes on a different meaning and social organization is more elaborate. What constitutes merit becomes greatly more complex. A lot of what constitutes merit becomes related to the ability to manipulate abstractions. For example someone that is unable to use the abstraction of mathematics cannot rise to the position of a planner. The more complex the civilization becomes the more important the ability to manipulate abstractions becomes. The left recognizes this to some extent but does not recognize the relationship between productivity and merit.

With complexity the measurement of productivity becomes more abstract. The value of things becomes more subjective. For example, what is the value of art? More importantly, what is the value of art to society? What is its "fair" value? What makes some art more meritocratic than other art? How is art productive? A monkey will respond to art purely on a sensual basis but in the civilized state art is expected to raise the "spiritual" state of the observer. The only reason the Soviet Union could embrace brutalized architecture was that it enhanced the abstraction of equality. Art became disconnected from the spiritual state of the observer and by extension merit and productivity. Equal access to resources or the law of the jungle replaced civilized meritocracy. Meritocracy based on productivity. "Privilege" reverted to the way it was established in nature to become based on protection, networking and grooming within the party structure. The natural way of being.

What I'm trying to point out is that people are inclined to view the world from a natural perspective. But civilization is based on the cultural evolution of abstractions that alter the meaning of physical reality. The meaning of meritocracy changes. Immutable characteristics become less important. The current trend to tie merit to immutable characteristics is a step backwards in civilization. The preference for the sensual over the spiritual dehumanizing. Fairness based on equal access to resources is a threat to hierarchies of competence based on merit and by extension public morality.

The threat to civilization that comes from the natural perspective is not just from the left. When the right advocates for Darwinian capitalism divorced from morality it weakens the meritocracy. In a civilized state meritocracy cannot just be tied to competence but to virtue as well. Hierarchies of competence are essential but part of that competence is related to virtue. Without virtue you get things such as crony capitalism that is not that much different than placement in the hierarchy based on networking and grooming in a socialist state. What really separates the left from the right is the right has retained some of the concepts of virtue that culturally evolved over thousands of generations. Virtue tied to spirituality not found in nature.
