Here it comes, the first major test for McCarthy. This will determine his effectiveness for the next two years. Hakeem Jeffries has refused to play by the very rules that Pelosi instituted when it served Democratic priorities. Now that McCarthy wants to use the same power to deny Shiff and Swalwell their committee posts, suddenly the new rules are no longer acceptable.
It's time Republicans started giving as well as they've been getting. The only thing the left understands, and their only goal, is the accumulation and exercise of power. They will only be stopped by countermoves that are even more powerful.
The weakness of Republicans is their very commitment to the Constitution and its principles - to which the Democrats do not limit themselves.
So, right. Republicans must go after Democrats aggressively, but under limits set by the Constitution.
Fortunately, the Constitution says very little about how Congress conducts itself. Let the games begin.
