Why should actors stay out of politics? Other professionals are allowed their opinions. Hollywood just happens to have the celebrity exposure mechanism built in for actors but I don't see it as otherwise any different. The biggest downside as far as I can see is that it displays right up front loud and clear what morons so many of our fine actors are and for that reason you're probably right. Nothing I ever read about Disney ever struck me as rabid. Lots of people in earlier times were both what we would call now racist and antisemitic but to me "rabid" implies a radicalized or extreme nature. Most folks back then were just culturally molded.
@Geofrank I don't disagree with you. It was a bit of snark, as many on the Right will tell celebrities to stay out of politics. Shut up and act. Shut up and dribble. And so on. You see it a lot.
When a celebrity like Meryl Streep or Robert DeNiro makes a statement, they are told to shut up and butt out of politics. But Sorbo can go on right wing news and rant about wokeness, or Clint Eastwood can talk to a chair for 30 mins at the RNC, and the right wing eats it up and cheers it on.
Same with athletes. Lebron or Kaepernick make a statement, or kneel on the sideline, and the Right foams at the mouth and tells them to shut up and make statements (like Trump did) that they should be fired. Another athlete makes ridiculous statements that evolution is fake, or one lies about their vaccination status, and the Right cheer them on.
Same with young people. David Hogg, one of the Parkland survivors, makes statements about gun violence, and the Right vilify him. Just look at what Marjorie Taylor Greene did, following him and shouting at him. The Right tell him to shut up and that no one should be listening to a teenager about politics. However, another survivor, Kyle Kashuv, comes out as pro gun and champions Conservative politics, and the Right invites him onto Fox News and talks about how great he is and that everyone should listen to this young man and his views.
As far as Disney goes, I think he was a bit beyond the "cultural atmosphere" when it came to antisemitism.
