The two largest U.S. teacher unions used the COVID-19 pandemic to advance a planned agenda for radical changes to public schools. This included pushing critical race theory and trans activism policies whilst at the same time dismantling of education standards by abandoning basic skills like math and reading. According to Eric Eggers, the Vice President of the Government Accountability Institute which investigated this issue, these teachers’ unions have been using the pandemic to expand both their powers and their agenda.

There are arguments in the US of whether parents should be able to choose which schools their children go to. Policies allowing for this, through school choice and school vouchers, are being challenged locally in Ohio, where 100 different school districts are threatening to sue, claiming that policies that allow school vouchers are a violation of the state constitution. The local discussion, however, could have broader impacts on similar policies across the US. Here talk to us about this more is Neal McCluskey, director of the Cato Institute’s Center for Educational Freedom.
