There certainly are bad police. Bad by attitude, bad by training.
But I would like to think that the vast majority of police are decent human beings who are being tasked by the vocal public with having perfect judgment, perfect reaction times, perfect aim, and perfect clairvoyance regarding how an uncooperative suspect is going to react or resist. We insist that the cop make literally no mistakes and treat a suspect's life with the utmost importance - especially when the suspect itself doesn't give a damn about their own lives - even if it means allowing the suspect to kill the police officer.
We have Herculean expectations for the police and back that with ZERO support for them. We call for them to be defunded and irrationally expect that they'll do an EVEN BETTER JOB with less funding and personnel. All because we have lost the expectation that people be RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN OUTCOMES, so the cops need to be responsible FOR THEM.
One day, the last sane police officer will leave the force and we will not like what remains.

Hello there. I often hear people say "Well, being a cop is tough, but they get paid for what they do. It's just one of those jobs. Etc. , etc." It really, REALLY, is a tough job, though, mentally and physically.
