Shall we get into Thee, and Thou, and Thine? Whether we reign, rein, or rain, the English language is a bit of a challenge to teach, learn, comprehend. But our available words are used exclusively by marine and aviation communicators around the world. Has our vast language completely supplanted the ancient skill of telepathy. Your dog or cat understands what you want before you open your mouth. I guess this is much ado about nothing.

Me thinks thee has identified vain affectation as the authors motive writing about the effects of usage of the word "the" and I agree.
You're showing good wit and humor with your observations. There are myriad reasons why a writer might write on a subject so meaningless and banal and their writings come off as shallow vanity.
Surely however a writer has a right to write as he wishes on any given subject . The subject of the essay subjects readers to the writers rightful expression of what it is that happened to furrow his brow at the moment the writer conceived his idea to write on the subject "the".
