Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.Me thinks by and large people are beginning to see that the things they value, the things of purpose in their lives are slowly being eroded. Many have come to the conclusion there is not much left to live for. A very small people have taken control of the resources, the mass media, their future. Maybe the worst are the vulture capitalists who produce nothing but through a myriad of shenanigans have put themselves in control and have absolutely no use for the 'deplorables'. It is absolutely beyond me that criminals like the Clintons are not in jail. It is incredible that the 'elite' can keep on stirring up trouble world wide, in stead of putting their ill begotten gains to work on infra structure and social services. Our society should not have anybody living on the streets. Am I calling for socialism? Certainly not! I am calling for responsible social action where everybody is included.

your intelligence notwithstanding you know that given the liberty to do so you will make decisions selfishly, independently that are bad for you and by extension bad for society....you must comply and if you do not comply you will be bullied, cajoled and punished until you submit to the central gov't authority! Got it? Now, put out that cigarette or blunt or whatever that is. Stop eating meat, start using public transportation, be grateful for the largess of Gov't authority...or being you are a white male boomer you could just to the right thing and - die. LOL

no matter how passive the people if there basic needs are not met they will strike out at those they identify as the oppressors.

hmmm, sounds like a plea for gov't to take charge of their lives.
"basic needs" can and does mean an arbitrary and ever growing list of demands - because "someone else" is paying for it.
Looking to gov't "to meet basic needs...of the people" is exactly the kind of rationale that leads to oppressive gov't and burdensome taxation.
Looking to gov't to meet your basic needs is antithetical to concepts of liberty and freedom.

noooo; I think your analysis is wrong here. Looking to gov't to meet your basic needs shifts "affluence" away from the people to the gov't. Becoming dependent upon gov't (or anyone but oneself for that matter) impoverishes a person.
Being dependent upon others also robs them of power and motivation. It's like a drug addiction. Superficially it feels good - comforting to be taken care of by someone else but it makes you poor in material wealth, poor in spirit, poor in purposeful living.
You become fatter and lazier every day and in the end you'll find that gov't is really indifferent to your plight because it has no ability to treat you and your basic needs individually. You're just another face in the crowd - another mouth to feed - another person who must be housed and fed and looked after until you die - and when you die gov't will unceremoniously line out your name/number on their ledger of dependents and forget you - as if gov't ever really knew you existed in the first place.

it is relieving to know that people can stand up for themselves

the reality is that even if they can stand up for themselves most are too lazy and too stupid to do so.
