It's O.K. at the moment, because the Wind is Blowing, though there has been very little sunshine. The demand is low, because we are in yet another lockdown. The wind is currently providing around 46% of The UK's Electricty Supply. A few weeks ago, cos I watch these things the wind was providing less than 1% of our enerygy...yet it was still very warm for the time of year..and the Official UK Authority issued a warning -we nearly ran out of energy.
When I was a boy in 1963, we had a winter that was so cold, that the wind didn't blow for 3 months. The igloo I built with my brother at Christmas, still hadn't melted by Easter. Most people in England have never experienced such cold. We survived on coal fired power stations to provide the electricity...and coal delivered to our house on a horse and cart. We had no gas.
If such conditions happen again this winter, lots of people are going to freeze to death.
This is Serious. We have no contingency in Energy, and we have no Contingency in Food.
