However, especially toward the end of his career, he regularly betrayed his fellow Republicans and the principles he had formerly espoused, apparently because he wanted the approbation of the media and because he relished the reputation of being a "maverick" more than sticking to his principles.

What do you think of the POWs who believe McCain sold them out for privileges?
As far as I know, there is almost nothing in his career that defended the Constitution.

@TimTuolomne I've read a few articles about the issue in the past. If you have a good source that I should read, I'd be happy to check it out. I'm open to any credible evidence.
@KeithThroop. It has been decades since I have seen those statements. I'll see if I can come up with them. They have been scrubbed from the Web long ago.
@TimTuolomne It wouldn't surprise me if they had been scrubbed from the internet. As I said, I'm open to evidence. I've given John the benefit of the doubt on the issue, but my mind can certainly be changed.
@KeithThroop. You might give a look to his public statements for the last three decades. I don't think you will find that record admirable.

@TimTuolomne Some of the medals he is known to have won, however, require a pretty vigorous investigation and vetting to receive, as I recall. For example, it would be very hard to receive a silver start or a legion of merit that wasn't actually earned.
@KeithThroop, Yes, that looks familiar. Some claim it is a hit piece, but if you track down some of those statements, I don't think you will find any proof of misrepresentation, or malfeasance in the report. If you do, I'd like to know about it.
Perfect representatives of the dumber half of “Republicans.” Republicans are named so because their philosophy is to defend the republic, and the Constitution on which it is founded. The original Constitution defended our rights against an intrusive government. “Republicans” who fear not getting re-elected unless they slide Left, are no longer Republicans, and have thereby abandoned principle, and truth, therefore fit the duplicitous Left perfectly.
