The war in Ukraine, Why is it being fought? Russia invaded? Well yes. Why did Russia invade? Imagine the USA not taking any action if Russia offered the people of Alaska entry into the Russian Federation and the government of the State of Alaska agreeing ? I'm sure the USA would say WOW imagine that? Is everyone in Alaska ok with that? Well ok Then! Would the USA consider that to be a threat to US security? Would that be seen as a way for Russia to INVADE the USA in future. The USA would take that as a direct threat. Ukraine is seen as a step to far by Russia. The 1962 Cuban missile crisis was a step to far for the USA. Explain the difference or can you?

The fact is that this is not about any economic deals, partnerships or treaties. This is about the placement of Nuclear Weapons on the border of nations. This is about NATO and Ukraine being part of NATO.

Arty Level 7 Nov 6, 2022

Still patiently waiting for you to supply any evidence of the following:

  1. Ukraine being offered NATO membership at ANY time. Ukraine applying for NATO membership prior to 2022. The application in 2022 by Zelensky was purely symbolical.… no country who is in a war are allowed to join. And of course the application was not even considered.
    All you have to do is to look how difficult it is for Sweden and Finland to join.. At no point was Ukraine even considered to be allowed into NATO.
    This war has nothing to do with NATO membership.
    If it was, why is Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia not invaded?

  2. Please list the nuclear weapons being placed by NATO in Ukraine. Or any plans to do so.
    The truth is exactly the opposite. Both NATO and Russia insisted in 1991 that Ukraine de-nuclearise before agreeing to its independence.

NATO does not “need” nuclear weapons in Ukraine to threaten Russia. This is not the 1960’s where the Cuban missile crisis actually meant something.
NATO can hit any part of Russia at any time with submarines under the polar ice cap.
And vice versa. The majority of active Russian warheads are in their polar submarines.

So you “Facts” are not so much “Facts” are they?

Why did Russia invaded in 2014 directly after the Ukrainian parliament agreed to an economic agreement?

Lets get to the basis of the argument. Why would Russia invade Ukraine? Because it might join the EU? That was not the problem. Everybody knows the problem was Ukraine becoming part of NATO. Most everybody on the planet knows this. But the politicians among us keep sidestepping that issue. If Mexico or Canada joined a Chinese defense pact that allowed China to place Nuclear Weapons on the border of the USA then that logic allows the Ukraine to become part of NATO! And the 1962 Missile crisis was just a misunderstanding of how the world really works!

Arty Level 7 Nov 5, 2022

Because it might joint the EU?
Yes, and even less than that. By signing an economic agreements with the EU as Ukraine was about to do in 2014 was the cause of the original invasions of Crimea.
Read up the cause of the Maiden revolution.
Nothing to do with weapons or missiles.

This will advance in the long term the economic decay if Russia and its influence in the east.
This is a Russia problem.

Why did Russia not invade Lithuania and Estonia?

It is tough to truly understand a situation without walking in the shoes of those involved, it's easy to think we see the little guys as being oppressed by the big bully and think it's just a bully behaving like bullies do and overlook what triggered the bully.
I previously found this information and how Russia had been promised the United Nations wouldn't park next door which gave me a difference insight on what's motivated their discomfort with the UN being invited into Ukraine. I wondered if Ukraine had waited another few years before making the move to the UN perhaps Russia would've had a different perspective on Ukraine's move. None of this now changes what's happening but it does lend a deeper understanding and hopefully can temper possible responses.

You know Russia is a member of the UN right?
So is China and Ukraine…. And more than a hundred other countries.

At least understand the difference between NATO and the UN before trying to claim what Ukraine was part of or not.

@Hanno Sorry. Ukraine IS NOT an UN member

Maybe read a bit more and comment less.
They are even on the security council….

@Hanno You're right that I mixed up when I referenced the UN instead of NATO, I don't make a habit of spending my days dealing with international politics so please forgive my fopaux, I guess it's a good thing I don't work in the White House Administration, though I hope I'd take care with research were I in a position of authority.
Your comment prompted me to do a refresh on my knowledge of the Russian/NATO relationship, thank you for that, and it's unfortunately reminded me of how messed up and self-serving politicians can be no matter from what country they originate.

@GlenGardner20
Very good.

Apologies from me if my comment to you was short or disrespectful.

And you are 100% spot on about the self serving politicians..

Alaska is a state of a federation called the United States. A United sovereign country. Alaska is a part of the United States and it’s citizens are US citizens.
The citizens of Alaska wants to be part of the US and not Russia.

Ukraine is and independent country. It’s citizens are Ukrainian citizens. They do not want to be part of Russia.

Not that terribly difficult to understand.the differences and the agreements.

At no point was Ukraine offered NATO membership. Not before 2014 and not since.
At no point was Ukraine offered EU membership prior to 2014.
At no point was Ukraine citizens offered entry into any country.

Everything about your comparison between Ukraine and Alaska is false.

At no point was nuclear ballistic missiles sent to Ukraine.
In the past or now.

Their is absolutely no comparison.

OK lets make it Mexico or Canada? I'm sure the USA would be fine with that?

@Arty
The US was fine with Cuba being aligned to USSR. They did not like it, but they didn’t invade it for that reason.
It was the placing of nuclear weapons there that was the issue.

Pray tell what nuclear weapons the US or NATO placed in Ukraine?

@Arty
And no, if Mexico goes into a non-military economical cooperation with Russia, then no, the USA will not invade Mexico.

How do I know this.
Because BOTH Canada and Mexico are in non- military economical agreements with China,

China is a significantly larger threat to the US than Russia.
Yet we have close allies of the US like NZ in economical agreements with China…. And no sign of the US invading.

The issue with Ukraine was never NATO or military agreements. It was economical cooperation between Ukraine and the EU that caused the issues in 2014.

@Hanno Look in to the situation a bit further back and a bit deeper.
Ukraine had essentially a Soros/US funded and style of 'colour' revolution back in 2014. They were sold on the idea of joining the EU would get rid of endemic corruption and bring wealth to the country. Ironically the EU always rejected the membership requests due to Ukraine being the most corrupt country in Europe (according to the EU's own standards). Since the Maidan protests, the people in power have been trained and funded by the US (much like the Taliban were in Afghanistan when Russia was there. Except now it's Eurocentric neo nazi groups rather than Islamic fundamentalist extremists).
Is it any less corrupt now than before? Even before Russia invaded? Has quality of life gotten better for the general population since 2014? And how truly independent is a country that relies on money laundering scheme's of US Dems, doing the dem's dirty political and (pharma) corporate work in order to gain funding to keep the country afloat?
Funny how Maidan happened during Obama/Biden, under Trump things were chill... and now with Biden in again things are the most unstable they've ever been 🤔
Independent? But sucking on the US teet to the tune of how many billions? And following policies that coincidentally aide the US, the UK, the EU/NATO, and the WEF more than the interests of their own population?

@Tom81

Thank you for proving my point…. The cause of this war is economical failure of Russia to influence Ukraine.
Not military. Not Nazis or bio labs.

Using your definition…. How many countries are then independent? Very few.
Yet they all have the right to decide who they economically alight with? And most even have the right to decide who to align military with?

And finally… which country is more corrupt,
Ukraine or Russia….. or Democrat led US , or Trudeau led Canada….

So what right does that give Russia to invade Ukriane?

Mexico is just as corrupt as Ukraine… should we allow the US to invade them?

@Hanno my actual point is:
1)Ukraine isn't independent and hasn't been since the Bolsheviks took it.
2) Just like in WW2 - the opinion of whether a country was better off under Soviet rule or Nazi rule completely misses the point that there is no real country under either.
3)Neo nazi groups, biolabs, political money laundering schemes are just are just a symptom and a sign of how truly corrupt the place is.
4)Finally - you can actually be neutral. You don't have to support one side or the other. Being against one side doesn't make you pro the other side. You can even be pro or against both sides. You can even be pro both sides or against both sides. Not everything is black and white

Ok make it Canada or Mexico! I'm sure the USA would be fine with that!

@Tom81

  1. You know that agreements were signed by many countries including the USA and Russia declaring the Ukraine independent and sovereign right?
    There are several million (the vast majority of Ukrainians who disagree with you).
    Using your reasoning, the USA has not been independent since the democrats have taken over as your country is run by the WEF..
    Right?
  2. You started the question whether Ukrainians will be better of or not.
  3. Those things also exist in most other countries in the world…. Why are Russia not invading China? Or USA Mexico.
  4. I am actually neutral. You obviously are not. Just your first statement that Ukraine is not independent.

I find it rather funny how right wing Americans (and in your case Australians) get so upset about their rights being impinged by the Democrats (Labour), are the first to deny other people the exact same rights.

Very easy to say the Ukrainians should live under Russian rule when you cry about Abbott and Labour.

Make no mistake, I cry about Ardern but I do not expect Ukraine to give up their sovereignty for your petty politics.

@Arty

Please read my comments on the matter above.
We already have that situation as most right wingers here claim.
Canada is already in economic partnership with China.

Are the US invading?

@Hanno And it's not about economic partnerships and I do believe you know that!

@Hanno you think I'm 'right wing'? 🤣 Why, because I don't have the Ukraine flag in my profile like the leftists?🤣
Nah, I hate leftists more because I was born in a communist country. And the 'left' are currently more authoritarian than the 'right'. I've got plenty of disagreements with the conservative side historically but they've moved more moderate in recent years. The closest I come to following any particular ideology is Ayn Rand's individualist line of thought. But hey, peg me into whatever group makes you feel better and easier to class as 'them' or 'the others'. Makes it easier to ignore any points that might contradict your own view points...
You don't know me, or what I believe in, who I support etc... but hey, do your thing and I'll do mine. Each to their own. I only want to start beef with the narcissistic activists here (which I definitely don't think you are) so let's agree to disagree and leave it at that. Have a good one

@Tom81

Fair enough. Apologies for making any assumptions not applicable.

I don’t ignore any points of view I disagree with ( or rather I try not to). My last comment was more of a commentary on what I have seen here on the past 6 months.

Being born in a communist country make any discussion with you much more interesting….
We will talk again on another thread.
Cheers!
