Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.What makes me really laugh about this - beyond how truly unlikeable "Dumpsterfire" is and how it's clearly a self-insert of the author - is that this book is supposed to be intended for Scholastic book fairs for elementary and middle-school kids. Yet the book drops the F-bomb multiple times and promotes a lesbian relationship, meaning that it's probably not going to be approved for those age groups.
So you have to ask: who EXACTLY was this title written for? Fans of the Teen Titans won't want it. Scholastic probably won't allow it to be sold to the target audience. So who?
And all during a time where the American comic book industry is about to go under and has basically lost all its market share to manga. You can't make this stuff up.

Oh, and maybe the most cringiest thing of all? Based on what I've read in a review of the book, once Dumpsterfire's powers emerge - hope I'm not spoiling it for you - she's suddenly okay with the world and becomes a much nicer, pleasant person.
Now marinate on the message of that: when there's nothing special about you, it's perfectly okay to be angry at the world and treat everyone like shit. But instead of learning to accept yourself and find that thing to hang your hat on, you just need to wait for your magic powers to arrive that make you special through no effort from you, and all will be okay with the world.
Are you fucking kidding me? That's what you want teenagers to walk away with? To sit around and wait for your special something to magically pop up out of thin air instead of actively WORKING to correct your deficiencies and build towards making yourself someone you have self-respect for?
