Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.It seems to be that academics are against any dynamic where they think white males can flourish, under the guise of "this creates oppression." For example, the opening dodge ball article? I read it. They literally say:
Dodgeball is a tool of oppression.
According to Joy Butler, professor of curriculum and pedagogy at the University of British Columbia ("curriculum and pedagogy?" should I even ask?), dodgeball reinforces the following elements of oppression:
- marginalization;
- powerlessness;
- helplessness of those perceived as weaker individuals through the exercise of violence and dominance by those who are considered more powerful;
- exploitation; and
- cultural domination
And there it is: "cultural domination;" in other words: white people. And also we see "helplessness of those perceived as weaker individuals through the exercise of violence and dominance;" in other words: women. Shame on you white men, with your oppressive dodgeball.
Personally, I'm waiting for the academic paper condemning the NBA for not lowering standards to be more inclusive. There's already a narrative that the NHL isn't inclusive enough, after all. How long do you think I'll have to wait?
