Even after reading the entirety of the viral Facebook post, I still don't see how it's considered racists, hateful, or dangerous. The biggest reason I don't see it as such is because of the activist type reaction it got. Instead of discussing it, it was categorized as not aligned with school values.
The post definitely has a conservative point of view as well as is pro Trump. Which are often times highly controversial political views to have among a liberal dominant educational environment. So, it's not entirely surprising that it would receive some sort of backlash. Personally, I think educators would find the points made in the post good talking points for discussion. I would have expected more of a debate would have sparked.
I'm not super educated. I only learned about antiracism, critical race theory, and other more progressive ideologies, this past year. I've entertained and tried to understand the activist point of view, and have consistently been left very confused. Any attempts I make to try and understand are frustrating. I recognize I have biases, but I never considered myself as someone who was so whole heartedly grounded in my own beliefs that I can't be open to new ideas. Seeing things from multiple perspectives should be a good thing.
It's pretty bad when even among educators, journalists, and other academic types are seen having the same kind of struggles I'm going through. Even with all the literature, knowledge, first hand experience, and education, many of these conflicts are being resolved in courts and lawsuits. I'm unsure what kind of progress can be made with the continuous "us vs them" approach. Especially when I can see valid grievances on both sides.
