The Civil War was a war that has brothers killing brothers. The war was vicious and left many wounds. Most of the leaders at the time realized that for the nation to heal, we had to honor and recognize soldiers on both sides of the conflict. Yes, the South lost the war. But the southern men and women were still Americans.
As part of that healing, statues were erected in the honor of the Confederate soldiers who fought bravely for their homeland. The vast majority of the soldiers were not slave owners. They just wanted to have their own country apart from the USA. Very similar as to how the USA was born from a separate from Britain.
The people that are now tearing down the statues don't want a reconciliation, because they are in no way Americans. They are aliens who hate everything about America and just want to loot on the corpse.
