The one piece I believe our founding fathers missed, or I guess didn't count on because they never imagined that there could be such a thing as a "career politician". Politicians should not address issues without the will and signatures of their constituents. In other words unless a certain number of signatures are collected by the people and then sent to their representative, the representatives does not act. I believe this would force politicians to spend more time at home, only address issues the people care about, and force lobbyist to lobby the people and not the politicians.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.Although you make a good point, I believe the founding fathers meant for good men of reputation to step up and take their turn representing their communities for a term. Although they didn’t consider the idea of term limits for the legislative branch, they didn’t conceive of those people choosing this as a career and being corrupted by the power. They assumed it would be good, wise and successful people “doing their part” and then returning to their lives after having “done their parts” and being replaced by the next good and wise and successful man. They were all trusted men who were doing the right thing using good judgment in any situation as it arose.
Now, as you implied, they are bought and paid for because people don’t know their neighbors for whom they are voting. Even those who go to DC with good intentions are quickly corrupted by the rot that is so pervasive. I believe the answer is short term limits with pay (hourly wage) commensurate their work (enough to live on, but not to get rich) they should also be liable to prison terms for accepting bribes and those who bribe them should be liable for the same prison terms.
