At the Democratic convention of 1968, the delegate count was:
Johnson 561.5
RFK1 393.5
McCarthy 258
Johnson was unpopular and dropped out and his delegates were inherited by Humphrey.
RFK1 was assassinated and his delegates were orphaned.
The convention was chaos. Many Democrats were violent
and they beat up Dan Rather on national TV.
Many states sent multiple sets of delegates that were contradictory,
and there was civil war among
delegates. The convention was surrounded by razor wire and guarded by
11000 police and 6000 National Guardsmen. Chicago Mayor Daly imposed martial law
and was seen as heavy handed. Protests were ruthlessly crushed.
President Johnson distrusted Vice President Humphrey and had Humphrey's phone illegally
tapped. Daly tried to revive Johnson's renomination chances.
In 2016, Hillary rigged the Democrat primary against Sanders, and the 2016 convention
was chaos. Sanders supporters held a bean feast and went into the convention hall and farted.
On the first day of the Democrat convention, there were no American
flags. Republicans shamed Democrats for this. Democrats added American flags. The true purpose was
to use the flags to block out Sanders signs.
The Democrat 2024 convention will be chaos. It's in Chicago.
