There is a difference between indoctrination and education. One comes at the cost of the other. The educational system has become so bad that more than 80% of blacks are functionally illiterate in some areas in both reading and math, making them "unemployable" except for the lowest forms of manual labor...which are now being replaced by machines

I have to admit I skipped some of the video. It was interesting but he missed a goodly portion of the history of schooling in the 20th century.

The Rockefeller Teacher's College was founded in 1887 for the purpose of being able to slot people into useful positions to benefit society and prepare workers for the flourishing manufacturing industry by providing them employment and keeping them busy. Teacher's with a Teacher's College diploma soon replaced those without.

Rockefeller had a great interest in shaping the mechanics and structure of "schooling".

The other burgeoning University level field was in studying animal and human behavior, always looking for ways to control it. Pavlov's dog experiments must be mentioned and Darwin deserves a mention along with well known psychology and psychiatric figures such as Freud, Jung, and Adler. Of course, politics was always interested in human behavior and controlling the individual to conform to societal standards. Edward Bernays comes to mind. Politicians ensured that these university faculties were well funded. But the real change in controlling human behavior came with abandoning the individual and catering to collectives - sociology. This from Marx and other socialist theorists. Socialism was very interesting to many politicians at the turn of the nineteenth century. I think Woodrow Wilson was the first real socialist President.

It is closely correlated with the rise of the administrative state both within and outside of government.

When Eisenhower warned of the "Military Industrial Complex" I don't think even he could have foreseen the true scope of the problems that corpocracy would create. The incestuous relationship between government and financial institutions including corporations of all varieties is bad enough but the term crony capitalism was not coined for no good reason. What it represented was the final piece of the social structure to reject meritocracy.

The rise of a burdensome administrative class correlates closely with the size of the Central government. That is not surprising because over time bureaucracies become about maintaining and expanded the bureaucracy not the original intent for which they were created. It's true for government and the private sector. Until recently however it was restrained in the private sector by the need to be profitable. Because of the failure to enforce anti trust laws and similar rules by both conservative and liberal congresses and administrations profitable has become more about predatory practices than productivity. The best example of how that plays out in the real world is predatory practices and legal loopholes as well as the creation spurious derivatives made breaking up and selling off industries more profitable than building them. What made that possible was the exportation of slave labor and pollution to China. Domestic industries simply could not compete with industries subsidized by the Chines government and which have few restrains on the abuse of labor or pollution.

The depth of the administrative state is hard for many people to comprehend. In some industries the number of administrators is close to out numbering workers. It far exceeds any practical requirements. Almost useless departments such as human resources, planning and diversity offices are a few examples of wasteful spending on salaries. In many cases the creation of these jobs was in direct response to pressure from the unelected administrators in the Federal Government. The permanent employees of Federal Government along with like minded people in academia who never saw a bureaucracy they didn't like. What they all have in common is what they don't like is meritocracy based on productivity. To be held accountable for wasteful and unnecessary expansion of their various jobs and authority and to be held accountable by showing what value they add.

It the case of universities it is clear that their purpose is now to make the administrators and facility more numerous and wealthier. The same is true in k12 education but it is less obvious because of it involves teachers unions who hide it and no direct recruitment of students. The systems are so non meritocratic that there is little wonder that ideas such as participation rewards for students would become widespread. People who resist meritocracy will demote it when ever they can.

Of course there are other reasons why the educational system is failing but the administrative state is a barrier to addressing those problems.

They degraded academics and discipline in the name of "antiracism."
