The Slug level system is cooler than the Twitter blue check system. What gets respect on twitter is a blue checkmark, but the Twitter lords are biased in their awarding of checkmarks. The bias deflates the value of checkmarks.

If you want respect on Slug, you must prove you are worthy. You must post, and you must post a lot, and your posts better be interesting. Otherwise Slug will ignore you.

Twitter presumes to judge identity, but they are easily fooled. Slug cannot be fooled. Many trolls have attempted to imposter Slug citizens, and Slug swiftly smoked the imposters out. Slug cannot be fooled.

Turns out Twitter is easily fooled. Twitter impostors caused billions of dollars of financial damage, and Twitter users were easily fooled. The impostors knew that Twitter users are easily fooled, and they made the most of it.

Slug is Beyond Good and Evil. Beyond points. Beyond checkmark. Beyond followers. There's more to it than that. Getting respect on Slug takes more.

The Tour de France has a point system, and it has multiple categories. The more categories, the better.

Slugs system has a tendency to reward trolls, from the engagement they get. Its better than most but theres the flaw in the system.

Twitter works better for self-promotion-- pushing a blog/website or a product or for harvesting ego food. Most social media platforms are thinly veiled mass marketing forums. Useful, but disrespectful. Success is achieved by spamming content and getting other people to spam content.

Continuing conversations and relationships are Slug's strength. It's the local coffee shop, not the agora, and that's why fakes and substitutes are easy to spot. If a different brand of coffee is served, everyone notices and complains. If someone doesn't come in for a while, they are missed. Has anyone heard from Toronto Georgia?

Slug is awesome, but it does have it's blind spots and a lot of tech issues (which could be resolved - but why is the captain asleep at the helm?).
Unfortunately, the system is exploitable. Someone can easily post trash and get backlash - only to be rewarded by points for interaction. Someone can also get points by spamming the site with multiple inane posts, or post the same thing in multiple sections and get rewarded.
It's good (otherwise we wouldn't be here), it's better than Twitter, but it also has room for tons of improvement.

Speaking only for myself - I use IDW because it is a place where conflicting socio-political view points exist side by side and bad ideas or politically incorrect ideas are only drowned out by better words and ideas. This is the true marker of mature intellectual debate. It is a working definition of Liberalism - Classic Liberalism.
