Lying.
It is an unnatural act. It creates stress in our bodies to the extent that we can detect it by monitoring heartbeat, pressure and pupil activity.
We don’t like lying, it takes more effort. Creates moral dilemmas. Cognitive dissonance.
So when someone lies to you, the big question is always why did that person lie?
Whether it is about COVID, or what is happening in Kherson or about religion or what happened yesterday.
The lie is often obvious. A blatant untrue statement or a statement made when such knowledge or understanding is not possible.
I always ask the question why do people lie.

While what you said is true for a normal person, it isn't so for people on the narcissistic spectrum (which includes sociopaths and psychopaths) - and those are the sorts of people who gravitate to positions of authority and power. For a narcissist, lying is pathological and can actually be empowering, soothing, comforting and release a bit of dopamine. Their brains are just wired different, there's been a lot of neurological studies (including use of MRI scans) that prove this well beyond theory involved in psychology.

I disagree that lying is unnatural. IMO humans are born liars, beginning first with denial of our own faults, and expanding from there. My belief is consistent with Scripture.
When I began to realize how extensive were my impulses to deceive, I was faced with the dilemma of believing myself an person of integrity. It has become a very great effort to actually become what I always told myself I was, and I find myself constantly tempted to backslide. Most people I know seem to agree.
Lying is also stressful enough to trigger a lie detector because when such a device is being used, the stakes are high, one is basically already caught, and it is stressful. Those trained to defeat them are practiced at remaining calm.
Pride is the number one sin in Scripture. I have personally experienced the most contempt from those whose greatest desire seemed only to "be right," whether or not at the expense of the truth. The closer I become to being an honorable man, the less I understand what that does for them.

Interestingly we only start to lie from about 30 months of age, and it is a sign of intelligence in toddlers.
Personal integrity is an interesting concept and goes hand in hand with personal responsibility..
Just watched a J Peterson / Russell Brand interview on how to save the world and he uses the story of Babel and Moses to explain the problems we have today.
As an agnostic/unbeliever I am the first to concede that there are some amazing truths in scripture.
