Normally, I would not give two figs about watching the Super Bowl - unless my team was miraculously in it - but this year, I thought, why not...at least I'll be able to see the funny commercials.
Well, the game itself was boring enough, but the commercials - oh Lord, the commercials - just made my heart sink. As if I needed further affirmation of who is controlling the narrative. I don't think I laughed even once; I vacillated between wondering why anyone would be entertained by the commercial and feeling like I was being preached to for being on the wrong side of history.
And for what? Because I believe in the Constitution? Because I believe in the content of a person's character? Because I believe that facts matter far more than emotionally-driven narratives? Because I refuse to believe that hard work, delayed gratification, objectivity, and individualism are hallmarks of white supremacy?
For this, I'm the "bad guy." For this, I know I will be canceled one day, and will probably lose everything, possibly including my life. But I feel even more sorry for the people who are going to have to cash this check someday.
