Economists in the past talked about fundamentals, now they engage in fantasies such as a post industrial economy, supply side economy, a service economy or the digital age. If your fundamentals are in China you don't have an economy you have some sort of welfare for the rich by way of corporatism.

I have such mixed feelings about this.
On the one hand, more power to them. While it may be legal, the idea of profiting through someone else's misery sticks in my craw, especially if you have the ability to manipulate the market to ensure that they have no hope of recovering. These may be legitimate business tactics, but it still rubs me the wrong way. So I very much an enamored of the "stick it to the fat cats," strategy.
On the other hard, they won't actually stick it to the fat cats. It's a nice fantasy, but that's not how things work. What'll happen is that all the people whose retirement accounts had hedge funds that came as part of a larger package - meaning that the owner of that retirement account probably has no idea they even own any part of a hedge fund's stock - they will lose their money instead. If - for example - Citadel has to declare bankruptcy because it can't cover the short, it won't be the individuals working for Citadel who'll lose their shirts, it'll be owners of Citadel's stock. Oh sure, I'm sure the wealthy will lose something, but not as large a percentage as your average joe who's trusting his company's 401K plan to manage all of that.
