I watched FOX news for years. One of my favorite shows was Hannity and Colmes. Why I liked that show in particular is because I, as well as more people than I realized, enjoyed seeing topics debated on both sides. Topics often times were "ratings" geared, as it is with all media, but they touched upon points of view as well as proposals on both sides. It was a smart way to still talk on divisive subjects without seeming overly biased to one side or another. They also could get that "entertainment" value without swaying public opinion by only showing one side.

Increasingly I saw FOX news swap it's "fair and balanced" slogan to "defend Republicans at all costs". As the majority of media has a bias to lean left, conservative voices were being lost. More times than I can count, FOX news and conservative radio focused on heavy negative and often times mocking way they reported on Obama. Trump... well Trump is a gift for the left leaning media. There's literally a tweet for everything. If they actually reported more on subject and stance (other than his posture) instead of tweets, I'd take them more seriously.

The world change that reporter is looking might be a better merge of news sources. I'm not saying we should never say anything bad about our President, or that we should resort to boring facts only reporting with no real entertainment value. I'm saying I shouldn't have to bounce between news stations and articles to get the entirety of a story or event. Especially when the majority of people don't. They pick one source and that's it. I'm not saying it's a cure all, but it might be a refreshing start.

I think those who don't watch FOX news might be suprised on some of the things Carlson says. I think those who don't watch CNN might find some of Lemons pieces suprising (pre woke. side question what the heck happened to Don Lemon?!) There is insight that is being lost in the "us vs them" and "right vs wrong". It's been escalating for years. It's been compounded by the fast track of meme and single sentenced based social media blips trending as "news". MSM including FOX has a new motto: "TLDR"

"...but another hard truth is that it is the job of journalists to teach and inform." Inform, yes. But who told journalists that their job is to teach? It seems presumptuous for a journalist to think that their job involves teaching anything beyond journalism itself. Inform me, yes, but I'm not so sure about the teaching.
